  • Catherine Murphy, the former co-leader of the Social Democrats, previously said that Irish people had "white privilege," even during periods of historical oppression.
Ben Scallan asked the current leader, Holly Cairns, if this is still the party's position.

Here in Britain White privilege, especially if you are a male working class kid means being sidelined for all the good stuff, second rate education, very hard to get help for further education, filtered out when applying for the best jobs, treated like a third class citizen in your own country, the whole system is stacked against you and the statistics bear that out.

It is a savage indictment of Irish politics, that such a political lightweight as Holly - well actually more like featherweight or even fluff weight - now has a national platform! When she has literally ZERO political achievements, usually embarrasses herself when she opens her mouth through either her total lack of experience, or knowledge of a subject, all while simultaneously striving to earn as many woke brownie points as possible. It's no wonder no one takes her seriously. And this has nothing to do with misogyny. I would direct the exact same criticism at a male politician. The difference being that he couldn't use the cover of his gender to deflect it.

Much appreciated . The sad part is that by giving away what should be such a valuable and precious thing (Citizenship) it demeans it so much and also, that, overall it is bad for even those, who although not deserving of such a privilege, over time, have been given something decreasing in value and meaning all the time
However, mostly it robs the Irish people of something very precious which they have by virtue of blood (one or more Irish parents) and basic history, heritage, culture. If I was Greek, Japanese or Nigerian I would feel the very same about the issue, from the perspective of being a Citizen of those countries.
As is now we have already blundered terribly by already granting Citizenship so easily to so many who just use it a very useful piece of paper / stamp to serve their own personal interests. Fault is not theirs for taking advantage of an opportunity presented by our state. Oe can not like or respect such people too much on this account but still the blame is on the Irish people. Government, politicians for allowing, encouraging this farce.
Immigration ad having a certain amour of “The Other” coming into and living in a country is fine and can even be good, but the key is the proportion, scale and quality of the people afforded this luxury.
How long or hard would it be for me to become Japanese or Nigerian? In the case of EU fellow citizens the gap could be smaller alright, but as a general rule it should be incredibly hard to obtain citizenship through “naturalization”, not insurmountable but just reflective of how much it is valued and cherished, if we were not such a dysfunctional, deluded, society, nation as we sadly are nowadays.Much appreciated .

Holly is from Cork and is a Complete Langer. She said in her Speech “Ireland is not full- it is broken.”
It certainly is completely broken by the shower of Langers in Government. Ireland is very full and many of our Irish Children have to leave because they cannot afford a home to live in now and for the rest of their lives, and this is because the Government has removed the Supply of homes.
Holly - Economics of homes is based on the law of Supply and Demand, and when either is interfered with it affects the Cost of the Homes.
E.g. there is a Demand for homes by the Irish BUT there is very little Supply because the Irish Government is purchasing most of the Homes to give to Non-Irish.

You can tell in their facial expressions & eyes that the quote they were hearing was horrifying. 'How could one of our own say such a thing...". BUT they also knew they couldn't give any other response than the deflection she gave....cause they can't break loyalty to the party system & its leaders, whether they be current or former. It would be great if the Gript Media would give her another chance to address the quote, now that she's had time to see the 'context' etc. What else could the 'context' be though? Murphy knew what she meant & said it openly.

The peasants fleeing Ireland had a shorter life expectancy than slaves in the U.S., many of whom enjoyed healthier diets and better living quarters. Most slaves slept on mattresses, while most poor Irish peasants slept on piles of straw. The black scholar W.E.B. Du Bois wrote that freed slaves were poor by American standards, “but not as poor as the Irish peasants.”

This statement by that woman is appalling, it stands apart. There is no way native Irish people are ever going to accept the kind of carry on that has become the norm in US and UK. Those countries can argue their history justifies black supremacist ideas that is their business, it won't wash here. Disgraceful.

They were treated like 💩 but still fought in both ww1 and 2. And still their politicians are putting their own people down. This treacherous attitude as to stop. It's an attitude only the politicians seem to be able to afford.

My family, Aunts Uncles, Parents left County Mayo in the 1930s they worked hard, harder than I ever did; harder than those bullshitting politicians ever did.
When they died the houses they bought and paid for was passed on to their children.
Among their grandchildren are two Doctors, a Barrister, a Chartered Surveyor, a Civil Engineer, a Nurse, aTeacher, a Mechanic, a Haidresser, a few clerical workers.
I never saw any Irish white privilege except among the ranks of elitist Irish politicians I saw in 1950s Ireland, indifferent to the disgraceful emigration that was tolerated by them.
I was born in England but grew up in Dun Laoghaire, returning to England in 1963 aged 16.
In spite of all the prejudice towards the UK at that time, they took better care of their citizens than Ireland.
Now we see the upper crust Liberal class, overstuffed with smug self righteousness ready to give the farm away.

Bad News for Holly. There is a chronic shortage of Irish Craftspersons.
RQ a Labour TD (2011-2014) commerced the dismantling of one of the best systems of Apprenticeship in the World- the removal of some of the Apprenticeship Teaching from Institutes of Technology- where the Apprentices were trained by the best highly skilled and very qualified Craftspersons. Many of these Institutes of Technology Lectures had competed and won medals in the WorldSkills Competitions.
(The 47th WorldSkills Competition will take place 10-15 September 2024 in Lyon).
The Dismantling of the Brilliant Apprenticeship system is being completed recently by Fine Gael TD Simon Harris when he transferred most Construction Apprentice Training to FÁS.
Construction Trade Apprenticeships is now in complete shambles. Ireland will probably never win any Medals in the WorldSkills Competitions again. What a disgrace. Don’t worry- Holly has your back and will sort all of this.
