Hey thanks for this. Great explanation. Looking to trench about a hundred feet next weekend and your video gives me confidence that I'll get it done right. Much appreciated!
Thanks for the quick and straight forward how to. Have an electrical wire I need to bury, about 80 long. This was super helpful, now I know exactly how to get it started! Thanks!
Nice job! I had used all kinds of equipment before but never a trencher so you showed me what an easy job it is, thanks! Plumbers wanted $6500.00 to run a gas line 70'.
Less than $200?!? Geeezzz, that’s a deal! Called locally and it’s almost $300 and $1000 deposit. But thank you for all the info! It’s going to make my job a bit easier to figure out!
I know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
Way way easier than digging by hand! A back saver for sure 👍 When we ran power and water to our shop my husband did it by hand, it was only about 20 feet but it still just about did him in 😬
So, OP says so at the end of the video - but... safety, safety, safety - First things first is Always 811 Dig... I can't get my dog to listen though - he digs wherever, whenever XD For us mere humans though :)
Thanks for the video. Is using a trencher pretty easy to figure out if I rent one from HD or is best left to someone with experience? (It woukdnt be as big as your trencher). Can I still dig down 2’ for sloping drainage pipe? What are the largest size rocks they can handle? (Golf ball size? Baseball size? Softball size…?) Is it possibly to trench up or down a 30 degree slope? On flat, if digging 2’ down is it best to go 2’ all in one pass or make multiple passes to get down, (only the last bit is 2’ deep).
It’s easy enough to figure out. Get a quote from a professional and check how much you would be saving. I’m sure it would be worth it. I thing it will handle baseball size rocks with ease. The trench is only about 4” wide, not sure your size but it will do everything you mentioned. I would not go in passes, dig deep as you want the first pass. Good luck 👍🏼
I'm planning to rent one sooner than later, 200' of hose drug across the pasture is not ideal. 😂 Great video, its hood to see how it operates beforehand.
This answer will depend on your soil and would take longer if you have to slow down for rocks. It took me about 1.5 hours to trench about 200 feet. I had a few rocks.
Hello I'm a new subscriber that was sent here by Luke from the Outdoors boy's TH-cam channel . So far I liked your channel thank you for sharing your video .
Everything seems nice and easy unless you met with a confusion based on a certain discrepancy : ditch states it is 36" and what does it mean ? For me it means I can ditch a trench 3 ft deep ( NYS electric cable ground requirement). You showed only 18" deep. The question remains : Is it capable to dig 3 ft deep trench ? Second confusion is based on a feather light and soft soil you digged. My farm is on forest land with blue stone enclosure all around. Is it gonna work on such heavy terrain ?
Each machine is rated for different depths. If 36” is the requirement you would be digging maximum depth. Large rocks and tree roots are the toughest to dig through.
I need to run a line of new piping on my property, it will be from the water well to the water tank, and then from the water tank to the house. The property is hilly (not flat at all), and the dirt is pretty hard. I had a couple questions to see if you could help me out. 1. Since my land is very hilly (some areas are 5-10 feet higher in elevation than other areas), should I get the land graded a bit before trenching? I think it will be a pain if I try to grade the land later and hit and break a pipe, but maybe it would be ok if i know where the pipes are? 2. The dirt on my land is pretty hard and dry, would a trencher be able to rip through that or is a trencher only for soft soils?
If you are going to grade the land I would do it first to ensure the water line remains below the frost line. If you choose not to grade first the trencher should do fine going up and down. The trencher will go right through hard dirt, the only thing that will stop it is large rocks. Good luck with your project!

Thanks, renting one next week for cable to chicken coop and redoing cable to shed since it was was done wrong by who owned this property prior.
Saw y'all on Keeping it Dutch! Blessings to your family!
Trencher is very handy for sure. Really trenches the ditch clean. Around here I use a middle-buster/sub-solier for same purpose and does a great job.
I like how it throws the dirt out sideways, very nice indeed.
Micky Bell-Roberts Yes! Was so nice to use.
Tomorrow i dig my water and electric fur my tree nursery. First time using one of these. Thanks
Our driveway was giving out on the shoulders. Thanks very simple & detailed instructions.
This was terrifically helpful as I prepare to do a very similar trenching job at my house. Many thanks!
Very welcome!
Nice. I like the way you practice the controls. Just the way I would have done it.
Thank you. Need to use this today.
Alright I want one! Take my money! I don’t need any trenches but I’ll find something for that earth mover! Nice job!👍🏻

Okies!! Yes
They are life savers. Well, back savers. Used one to run a long stretch of electrical cable.
JJV Homestead Study For sure a back saver.

Auntie Ann Tate Oh wow! I bet.
Started a trench by hand, when you get much beyond 20 to 24 inches it gets really hard to break up and remove the dirt. Renting a trencher to finish!
Well done video! Thanks for sharing! Daniel

You could use that easily bury fence lines so that is interesting. I can't wait to see your coop!
Great idea!

Exactly the video, i needed to see. T
Many thanks!!

Awesome video! A local homeowner has one rented for this weekend. How long would you say it takes to dig a 100 foot trench? Thanks for the video!
No major rocks, less than an hour. I went in with a buddy and split the rental fee since it goes so fast!

If I want to make French drains, should I peel back the grass if I don’t want to tear up the grass?
Yes, that’s going to be tough without the right equipment but that would be the only way
How do you make the trench wider?
I think if you need a wider trench you need to rent a small excavator, with a 12” bucket or whatever width you need. This is only 4-6” wide.
Got a kick out of his short assistant. “Can i try it dad, huh? Can i huh? ??

Did I miss it? How do you control depth? For example a standard trench is like 18 inch but I heard these can dig as deep as double that?
There is a hydraulic control for depth
Thanks for the info! Keep up the good content.
Have a wonderful day!
Thanks, will do!

How did you end up backfilling it?
With a shovel mostly.
How long would you guess it would take to do 200ft?
If it was good soil, maybe 30 min of digging.
I need one of those
What about removing park pins
How do you make a wider trench?
Rent one with a wider attachment maybe?
@@WalkerFarmFam too late, got a 4" and its so difficult to make it 10inch wide😂
@@willymaven1626 probably a mini excavator with a 10” bucket would be the better tool for the job.
You can try to do 2 trenches, side by side, and dig out any extra. Not fun though.

Curious, how many feet did you trench? and how long did it take?
Around 150’ and took about an hour and a half

I bought one from a guy that looks just like that one for 200 dollars, I think it’s hot, sure works good, came with a trailer to haul it on
What a deal. It sure makes the job easier.
Had one, works good in topsoil, gravel, big boulders no good . Excavators always get the job done!
Any rocks 4 inch plus the trencher bounces over them
@@ethanmcnally21 smaller rocks? 1-2"?
What’s the maximum depth it will trench?
I believe this one was 36”
@@WalkerFarmFam ok thanks
One tip not mentioned is to NEVER turn while trenching, this might break the boom.
For sure.
They are good for electrical conduct or water pipes.. but thats pretty much there limitation.. 6/10 I give it

I see the tractor. You must have been thinking how to use it. There must be a trencher for it but would be expensive.
