I agree with you that friends are overrated! I enjoy being by myself, it is more comfortable because I have social anxiety, so when I'm alone I don't feel stressed like I do when I'm around people.

singing to the choir with the last five minutes, i think people like us relish the freedom of solitude, there is no pressure to entertain and there is no need to compromise and go along with what others want to do, unlike others we dont need constant companionship, however in a world that is by and large very social it is not the easiest way to be wired, its more of struggle for people like us to put on our social (phony) faces in social settings

I am in the process of ending a friendship with someone who stirs up so much drama, and I always feel so terrible after I’m around them. I want to stay friends with him because I’ve known him so long, but it’s really not healthy for me to be his friend. It seriously sucks having to end a friendship.
Thank you so much for this. I live in a climate that makes walking around outdoors in the afternoon this time of year very, very hot. What a pure and beautiful blue sky and sunset. How beautifully green that foliage, even after humans tried to destroy the plot of land. I love being alone too! I even love vacationing alone. But all of the therapists I've had over the years seem to imply that spending a lot of leisure time alone indicates that a person may not be emotionally well-adjusted. 😞. So that in the back of my mind sometimes interferes a little with the joy of my fun times alone. But it can't be true in every case because you seem to be incredibly sound emotionally. You're awesome.
In hindsight, when I look at this issue rationally it becomes more clear. What's a better marker of emotional stability? Staying home alone instead of exercising or doing emotionally soothing pleasant events because one can't find an available companion or perhaps because one can't summon the energy to say, take a walk AND text 40 people to see who's available to tag along? Or just doing what you can, when you can-whether anyone else is on board or not? I'm certain that any descent therapist would agree, It's the latter.

We were just there on Sunday. :) I’d love some free advice if you’d be willing to talk about this question: Is it better to raise kids in the city, in the suburbs, or in the country? My husband and I had a baby 5 months ago and we are looking to upgrade to a larger place. We cannot seem to agree on whether it’s more important to have a quiet, safe neighborhood near nature where our daughter can one day run around (my preference) OR to stay in San Francisco and be near all kinds of neat things for her to do but have a smaller living space and no yard (my husband’s preference). Thanks in advance.

Leaving aside that this was three years ago and you asked Yang, not the internet: there is no objective answer here. Kids grow up happy and fulfilled in all kinds of environments, and different kids have different temperaments and preferences, so what is more right for one kid will be less right than another. What is important is the parents finding a way to honor each others' preferences, and be a strong partnership that can provide a happy and supportive home, and make the best of wherever it is that they live. If one of YOU is miserable or resentful about where you live, that will not be great for the family. Did Yang ever record this video? I'd love to hear her answer!
Reference to the Fallout video game series... the pip boy is a device that keeps track of your radiation level among other things ;-) That place looks quite like the post nuclear war wastelands in those games...
