You guys think JJ, a top tier college QB, who happily played for one of the heaviest running teams is now going to start causing friction because he has to sit behind a guy having a career resurgence? I think you’re all forgetting who this kid is. He will sit in the background, gain experience, get better, and be ready when he gets his shot.
100%. If Sam was playing poorly and they stuck with him, I think JJ would be looking at his options. I think he would find a ton of value backing up a good/great starter.
I'm with Jeremiah, nobody is giving up a first round pick for a guy that hasn't played at all in a year, and never set foot in a real game. And even if they did, we still aren't getting back what we paid to get him. Keeping JJ is a no brainer, it's a cheap rookie contract and a nice insurance policy. There's no indication that he's going to get so upset that he demands a trade, and he's gotta know by now that Darnold is probably going to be back next year. He's 21 years old, he'll be ok on the bench for a year.
Agreed. Would not give a 1st for him and if you do whatever team that is hopefully doesn’t need that first and has a lot of other picks and an amazing roster already but no lol
Agreed. Not only that what team is structured enough to just NOT need their 1st round draft pick….better have a great roster to, just to insert a QB on his first year after surgery….
Goff had top tier coaching in LA. Most times it is the player. Goff was always good but didn’t become great until the change of scenery. He might have had the same arc if the Rams stuck with him. Or maybe getting traded lit the fire. Who knows? Darnold needed a break after having a rough start to his career. Last year and this year he has had great coaches to help him overcome some significant flaws to his game. I’m happy for him but also wouldn’t commit significant cap dollars to keep him. He might be at his ceiling with KOC, regression is possible, and we have a top tier rookie on a cheap deal. I’d rather invest in IOL and CB and have a real contender for the next 3+ years with JJ at QB. Stick with the plan, Kwesi.
You guys are crackn me up! This is probably your best episode this year! They are not trading JJ away. They will franchise Sam. Remember that Kwesi is a finance guy. Rubbish. He was only a mid 1st himself and has done nothing. Darnold could be worth multiple 1sts after another season of this. There is no need to move on from either right now.
@@clintonreisig Absolutely not. It is the worst last resort. It will cost the Vikes most of the 2025 cap space Kwesi currently has for new FAs. A small extension prevents that.

Most folks don't even seem to know how Comp picks work - it's extremely unlikely the Vikes get any Comp picks - not for Sam or Daniel Jones. Folks will figure it out after the contract Kwesi constructs for Sam becomes public.
Fully with Sirles on this one. I’m keeping JJ behind Darnold if we keep him. At best give him a 1-2 year contract, see how it plays out. If Darnold is bad in the next year or two then you have a guy waiting in the background to take over.
Gotta agree there. GMs always outspend (overdraft) when they think they found _their_ franchise QB in the draft. They don't trade a 1st round pick for a former 1st round QB - especially one that's coming off 2 meniscus surgeries, hasn't taken a snap in a meaningful NFL game, or who didn't have a single teammate show up for his 21st birthday party like Bo Callahan.
You guys have great personalities that mesh well together, and put out great content! So my question is for the Vikings future plans on the OLine. Onei still wish Boone was the OLine coach for the Vikings cause he is so smart when it comes to blocking. I trust Jeremiah's opinions, but his "watch out for" teams the past 2 yrs have been Jacksonville and the Jets. Ooof. BTW, there's *zero* chance Darnold would ever entertain going to the Giants. He'd never want to deal with the NY media hyenas again, who'd expect him to repeat what he's done with the Vikings and every week would be looking for a gotcha soundbite as to why he couldn't perform with the Jets like he has with the Vikings. No f'n thanks. The best situation for Darnold would be the Rams, provided Stafford retires in the next 1-2 years. Darnold would be returning home to a team that doesn't have a rabid fan base or crazy expectations, he wouldn't have to contend with a bunch of outdoor games in November and December like in Pittsburgh, and he'd have Nacua, a decent run game, and an offense he's familiar with in McVay. A couple of weeks ago Darnold genuinely said, "There's no place I'd rather be" when talking about his time with the Vikings. I can't see Darnold taking the highest offer, unlike Cousins. Darnold has realized that the right teammates, coaches, and winning are worth more than getting an enormous contract.
JJ has no film. And is coming off injury. Assuming Darnold is back. JJ gets a year to get healthy get trained up. And the at that point. Decisions are made. Question is whether one should commit now or later. But and unless you need the draft value now. No reason to move JJ.
To trade Darnold, the Vikings must get KOC's consent. Why? Because they failed to extend him prior to the season and he can decide who he wants to roll with at QB. If not Darnold, he will be the snapped up by another team and possibly take Darnold with him after next season.
Jeremiah is legit pissed at them for saying they should trade JJ and I 100% agree with him

Eagles New Years prayer. May Jerry Jones live forever!
how many qbs can take the hits Darnold has? JJ?
Vikings have some many unbelievable awesome options it's insane. Very not Viking like. Qb central in Minnesota.
Road hard amd put away wet? I'm both right now.
Is boony doing goofy shit again?? Happy New Years boys!!
You really think KOC would walk away from what he's built here, with the organizational support he has, to tie his career to Darnold?
Trading JJ would be so stupid
The Vikings are not stupid enough to let either Darnold or JJ go anywhere for the next 2 years barring some kind of crazy Jimmie Johnson trade offer
Dumb Football ? - Were you ever learning plays or schemes that made you go "Why the F are we practicing this? We'll never use it"
The opposing Defenses are thinking the same thing
17 vs 16 vs 12 game seasons?
Apparently the vikings super bowl window opens next year and this year is rebuilding. I guess they go undefeated if that's the case?
Don’t y’all think Stafford retiring and Darnold to the Rams is probably in the works?
