I recon Simon Holt is up there amongst the best Racing Commentators over the last 30 yrs!
A true professional and a gentleman. So kind in his thoughts of his previous colleagues, even John McCrerick who, if I remember called Simon, the “Languid” one!

It’s tragic that Simon Holt isn’t on terrestrial tv anymore

I think ITV racings commentry would be world class with Hoiles and holt, and just get rid of a few of the presenters that waffle a load of shite

My Gripe is, I wish Commentators, would mention the 'Colours' every so often ( Not EVERY 3 seconds like Chappers Did ) But just for when i dont have a Sporting Life handy, I can watch a race, and the Commentator at least tells a few colours every so often ..Otherwise, im just watching Chestnut Horses running round a Field ! ) Footnote : The 'New' Graphics during a race help, but nothing better than hearing the 'Colours' in spoken word .. by the time ive worked out the changing 'Graphics' of which horse is which colours ( Via the Graphics ) , I get totally confused ... Spoken word is MUCH quicker to take in, and exact .. Ps, Simon Holt is a Great Commentator

Simon Holt is wrong that every horse must be mentioned in commentary. If mine is at the back, I can look for it myself. What I need is for the commentator to describe the action at the sharp end, and any changes behind (Flying Dancer is moving up; Dancing Flyer is dropping back).
Unfortunately there does seem to have been a central diktat that commentators must pretend we have no pictures and are back in the days of the Extel blower so rather than tell us anything interesting, the commentator names every horse from front to back, describing their silks, and missing three changes of leader and the favourite coming off the bridle.

ITV racing is dreadful with Chamberpot the teaboy, never ridden in a race in his life; it's when alot of aficionados got Racing TV as At The Races was dire too, making you wonder did the racing have ad breaks, or was it an advert show with racing breaks as often the races were off already before the ads were finished.

It really isn't dreadful. And guess what? - It doesn't cost extra to view.

@@colinanderson7384 I guess you grew up eating baked beans as a staple? I did, so I know what dreadful means. I'd rather pay for class action with class commentators.
