    Great work on the exhaust and explaining the differences between materials.
    It’s so nice to see someone actually admit that titanium exhausts often sound like crap. People don’t realise that because titanium pipe typically has less than half the wall thickness of a comparable stainless piece that the titanium exhaust actually bleed sound through the walls of the pipe. When you add to that potential resonance issues they can be just horrible. The length of the straight sections also effects the particular frequency it will resonate at which is why free-flowing exhausts with long straight sections get terrible drone. Great for performance/flow though.
    You can make them sound good but it takes some serious effort testing different lengths, bends, resonators, maybe even heimholtz devices etc etc. Doing all that r+d to get their titanium systems to sound nice is partly why the big brands like akrapovic are so expensive. They other part is they just charge whatever the market will pay. Lol
    Anyway, great vid and it was such a shock to see someone actually tell the truth about how and why different metals sound they way they so. The nicest sounding exhaust I’ve ever had was mild steel and I think part of that was the wall thickness. And I say that as a guy with a titanium exhaust on my GTR (sounds crap everywhere but high rpm), an akra on my bmw (sounds amazing). In fact the 4inch titanium exhaust on my GTR (with a big cannon type muffler) is louder and more offensive than the straight pipe exhaust on my other GTR which is just 3.5inch stainless pipe to the diff then a 3 inch mild steel pipe for the last bit. There’s a fair bit of science behind how an exhaust sounds.

    • @butters_
      @butters_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bro it has no silencers that’s why it sounds like that 💀

    • @richardc6884
      @richardc6884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, that’s basically it I guess my point is even without adding resonators or mufflers changing the pipe diameter or material type, wall thickness, where and what radius the bends are etc can dramatically change how an exhaust sounds. I agree all straight pipe exhausts have sound characteristics that you can’t really change without adding resonators or mufflers. But there’s a lot of factors behind why a certain exhaust sounds a certain way.

    • @Nismo-gy3wz
      @Nismo-gy3wz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mild steel sounds the best

    • @richardc6884
      @richardc6884 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Some of my favourite exhausts have been mild steel. Being thicker walled tube gives a mellow/melodic character and more muted resonance. I guess my point is that while each material gives its own character to the exhaust, you can make a nice sounding exhaust or terrible one out of all 3.

      It would be sealed on the end with tape with a small hole to allow gas flow or some kind of cap otherwise you'd have to use a huge amount of argon with just an open tube. Adding to that, as long as you don't weld too hot and don't get too much oxidisation on the inside it should be fine with enough filler wire added.

    • @Nam_Nguyen2308
      @Nam_Nguyen2308 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@vlt873 read my other comment. After welding titanium what you said is a lie. It must be backpurged or the weld becomes extremely brittle regaurdless of how much filler your using. Titanium will crack at the edges of the weld. You might be thinking of stainless which if you dont overheat the "sugaring" will be less

    • @vlt873
      @vlt873 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nam_Nguyen2308 I've welded titanium, even stainless to titanium without catastrophic failure causing the exhaust to fall off and cause a major pile up. In an ideal world, yes back purge. While we're arguing the toss about welding technique on the internet, he's probably doing laps of a circuit with his exhaust apparently about to have a catastrophic failure, not giving two f__ks and having a blast.
