Similarity between de Broglie waves and Bohr's Orbit
The de Broglie hypothesis and Bohr's theory of the atom are similar in that the de Broglie hypothesis supports Bohr's concept of stationary orbits. The de Broglie hypothesis states that a stationary orbit is an orbit whose circumference is an integral multiple of the wavelength of the wave associated with the electron in the orbit. Bohr's theory states that the circumference of the orbit of the electron revolving about the nucleus should be an integral multiple of the wavelength of the de Broglie wave of the electron.
Since '2πr' represents the circumference of the Bohr orbit (r), it is proved by equation (3) that the circumference of the Bohr orbit of the hydrogen atom is an integral multiple of de Broglie's wavelength associated with the electron revolving around the orbit.
