Maryknoll House 瑪利諾神父宿舍

Built in 1935, the American 🇺🇸 funded and designed Maryknoll House ⛪️ served as the local headquarters of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, and also as a rest house and a language school for priests who were going to preach in China 🇹🇼.
During the defense of Hong Kong in December 1941, the British 🇬🇧 set up defenses around the building to resist the Japanese 🇯🇵 assault on the Stanley Peninsula. Intense fighting erupted on the 23rd outside the residence, the British managed to retreat via the sea in the early hours of the 25th. Residents were moved to the Stanley Internment Camp and the property occupied by the Japanese.
After the war, Stanley became once again a mission center, and a refuge after China 🇨🇳 expelled missionaries in 1949.
The building has been sold to property developer in 2016.😔
