I'm a PS gamer but why would it make it the "best console ever?" The Series X basically has full back compatibility. All newer consoles should still be able to play older games. It helps gamers choose to stay with their choice of plastic box
They couldn’t even allow disc based backwards compatibility for PS5, what makes you think they’re going to do it for PS6? If they wanted to, they definitely could’ve used the Blu Ray player to read PS3 discs to “unlock” a digital license for that game, just like Microsoft does it with Xbox. RPCS3 make good strides, but for consumer consumption.
Based on how this generation has been handled, I think PS5 should have been launched much later than 2020. The majority of new games over the years have been cross-gen. Heck, EA has now ported Jedi Survivor on PS4. Just goes to show that PS4 at least is still a very capable console. If Sony waited, we could have had a much more powerful system to the extent there would be no need for Pro system.
Cross gen just ended a few months ago, from now on everything is just on PS5. Which is a shame, PS4 was at this point 2 years in. Witcher 3 launched in 2015
The fact the PS5 Pro is priced at 699 USD without a built-in disk drive is an ominous sign of what's to arrive when Sony does launch the PS6. At this rate, I expect the PS6 to be priced anywhere from 799-899 USD, all digital, always require an internet connection to play games like Microsoft attempted with the Xbox One in 2013, and base games priced at 99 USD or higher
PS4 Pro was $399 which was the price of the base ps4 at launch and the PS5 ended up being $499 so I don't expect PS6 to be affordable. It's either gonna keep $699 price tag of PS5 Pro not including Disc Drive or it's gonna be $799.
Gaming industry is its own worst enemy. Always looking ahead to the next big thing and rarely taking time to fully realize the moment/generation they’re in. The entire industry is in the process of outpacing and out pricing its consumers.
What? Already talking about PS6? Sony, honey, you haven't even started with PS5. You haven't built a serious game library for the system and half of your consumer base is still on PS4, get your act together.
You realize SONY is not talking about PS6. This is coming from other sources and of course Sony is working on the future PS6. They start planning consoles years in advance.
It will be interesting what they do with a PS6 and how they market it because unless over the next 3-4 years technology has a massive leap and the cost of that technology comes down games will still be 4k 30/60 fps. Game developers already complain about the cost of a 4k game can you imagine the cost of the next level. Which is why I think 4k 30/60 fps is the peak and now console's are at the same stage as apple iphone users the same thing every time a new model comes out costing more and more with each model.
It is incredibly naive to believe that PS6 will be backwards compatible to anything prior to PS4. I do not see PS6 playing PlayStation 1, 2 and 3 games. You heard it here first…
The way the industry is going in my opinion is that they won't need backward compatibility as developers will remaster all the old games like they have been doing now.
@@JakeySurani This generation has been a good advertisement for pc gaming. You can build a similar spec PS5 pro for the same price (brand new) depending which area and have access to more games and lower cost. Why buy a console that has 3 exclusives each cycle?
@@dr_diddy Can you recommend some parts I would need for an equivalent PC. I'm actually not kidding I stopped playing PC around 2018. Also how bad is the shader compilation stutter problem really? I know Elden Ring for example suffers from it heavily but what about other titles?
It's a mistake, they should go towards ARM and not towards x86 at all. This will hurt them dearly in the end. This is why the move to the PS5 Pro is not sustainable. They are screwed as die space is at a premium now and they need to go towards die space and transistor savings.
I feel like we are at the point where console generations will be incremental improvements like iphones are now. The vast majority of people who buy them will not be able to tell any substantial differences.
I haven’t bought a PS5 disc game in 3 years. There’s just no need anymore, at all. Like How many CDs do you go back and play on your old cd player, literally ever? I have everything I need on Spotify now. The same is true of gaming. I have never once bought a PC game on disc and I’m perfectly happy.
I'm still seeing a lot of problems in game graphics. We are experiencing diminishing returns, though, so they definitely need to diversify in terms of selling points.
If indeed Sony is sticking with AMD and therefor x86 for backwards compatibility (native, not emulated), AMD should focus on making the custom APU energy efficient like Intel's Lunar Lake. This means going full SoC (System on Chip) design for a very low power draw and a high performance output, maybe over 50TF but under 100W. It would require a small heatsink and PSU (Power Supply) and the unit could be as small as a NUC PC. Thoughts?
If backward compatibility meant all the way back to PS1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then they would lead all game consoles in the market. I doubt they would or could do that BUT if they did, even if the cost was higher man, it would be everyone's dream machine.
$700 for a PS6 that would be COMPLETELY backwards compatible? We're talking 30+ years of compatibility. Yeah, I could probably get behind that price point. Unfortunately, we'll never get complete backwards compatibility no matter if the hardware makes it possible because of expired licensing and such. That's the problem right now with Xbox and why their catalogue has holes in it.
I have a feeling that the PS6 will be backwards compatible with PS5 games, and unfortunately I have a feeling that you would have to jailbreak the PS6 to play PS4 games on it. Like how you would have to jailbreak the Wii U to play GameCube games, or the later models of the PS3 to play PS2 games.
If the make an emulator for PS3 in the next console which i also think is possible i hope at least the digital games we bought back then to be available the same way the did for ps1 and psp games, i don't know if it works the same way for the ps2 titles so far.
The Pro reveal was so bad most people forgot about the Concord debacle. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking when they decided to do it like that. I guess it’s easy in hindsight but man, they made it look uninteresting as F. Then, they dropped the price bomb. That sealed the deal for me. I have no urgency to put my hands on a PS5 Pro.
I just hope the PS6 will have two versions again-one with a disc drive and one that's digital. If the disc drive is only optional, then most PS6 games would probably end up being digital only.
the release of the ps5 pro and the drop of most of their psvr division made me sick of them. Dont count on me for ps5 pro, nor the ps6 nor the ps143542
Sadly as a lifelong Playstation owner, I'm struggling to be sold on a future console. I think I'll probably be switching to pc based on their current trajectory Why would i buy a PS6 as opposed to pc for: - games that are no longer exclusive, all on pc - paid online vs free on pc - paid cloud saves vs free on pc - ALL xbox, pc and Playstation games on pc. There's a good chance valve will release a future steamdeck console like experience that is upgradable. I dont think sony is treating their console audience any better so why stay?
@dabluntz19 i think there's a good chance they will. They previously had an attempt at it but since the success of the steamdeck, can't see why the wouldn't try again. Even if they don't, i can easily see Steamdeck2 being a good all in one device. Even Sony optimized their games for the current steamdeck. Future games will absolutely run on steamdeck2 from ps6 and the next xbox gen. I'm probably going to reluctantly ditch the console since i don't want to be ripped off. Good luck to sony settling with ever decreasing third party support and having to pay 30% for their games to be sold on steam vs psn
Well the answer to your question is convenience, money and time. Console gaming is plug and play, where as PC can often be a game in and of itself of configuring everything, updating things, swapping out parts when they go obsolete. Console gaming removes all of that. Yes most if not all games go to PC eventually but it's a matter of years for Playstation games and I believe it's similar for Nintendo. Also despite what many people on X say, PC gaming is more expensive than console gaming. I'm not going to get into all the specs and paying for PS+ negating that (which it doesn't) but PC gaming is more expensive. I've done both. As I've gotten older I just prefer the least amount of hassle and that's why I use my console. PC definitely has its perks but lets not pretend like there aren't drawbacks.
Nope they broke even on the cost to manufacture but that didn't include import and export fees etc also because of inflation they posted a loss on hardware again in their latest financials.
@@Packin-Heat.Hardware encompasses more than just PS5. You may want to revisit tne results if it is the May stats you are referring to. Then read the note stating what hardware includes.

how are we discussing the PS6 when the PS4 hasn’t even been phased out? We barely have PS5 exclusives since most games continue to be optimized for PS4.
If there's no disc drives or real chance for true backwards compatibility for every generation of playstation, the the PS5 will be the last console I'll ever buy.

The Intel contract was only used to reduce the price with AMD. This is a common tactic used in that industry. Tom from "Moores Law is Dead" podcast explained these tactics when he broke the news about Sony having a contract with AMD to make chips for PS6 and a PS mobile device.
It's sad that the backwards compatibility they are referring to almost undoubtedly just means for the ps6 to play ps5 games, maybe ps4 given the similar architecture, and nothing else...

Talks of PS6 whilst we're still getting new games released on PS4. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor released on PS4 today actually and looks and plays more than fine by all accounts. Diminishing returns for higher prices indeed. I predict new PS consoles are going to become much more niche whilst most players will either stick with the previous gen machine or move to PC. I can see the PS6 selling a lot less than PS4 & PS5 while Nintendo continue to appeal to a mass audience with the broadest age range and sell another 140+ million of their next console using lesser tech, more modest prices, the flexibility of a hybrid machine also offering a handheld option and 1st party exclusivity.
What??? The PS5Pro is a mid gen optional upgrade. It’s not meant to replace the PS5 base model! When the PS6 launches it will be priced to sell to the masses just like the PS5.
Might be the last console, considering the 3 major advantages of owning a console is past us. Afordability, physical games, easy to use. Can get a powerful pc at 800$, Physical games are being murderd and its a hassle 1st to find a playstation for couple of years then to assemble with ssd, disc drive, stands etc. Age of PC gaming is upon us.
@xchxmpagnepxpix Under a thousand, actually. Of course, you have PS4 games to include, but people aren't going to buy PS5 in droves just to play those games.

I lost interest in consoles. They're not taking VR games seriously and they don't want my money. Lately, I've been playing AAA games in VR on PC. That is the future of gaming.
Backwards compatibility is something very important to me! I wish we can get full backwards compatibility with all previous generation PlayStation games.
Good point. If PS5 Pro is 700$/800€ how much will PS6 cost? I undestand inflation or other reasons for higher prices, but Sony should realize thst these high prices are ultimately affecting the end user because we are the ones that actually have to take money put of our pokets.
This is beyond inflation... Normally Moore's Law means new tech gets cheaper to produce while it gets older, according to Sony's reason for the price lift for the PS5, costs of production is going up... I feel more like they saw what happened with the scalper situation and realized they could just raise the price themselves...
Given my general disappointment with this generation and the PlayStation 5, Sony would have to be offering something absolutely incredible for me to be interested in PS6. I certainly won't be there at launch, like I have been for previous consoles. I'll be waiting for at least two years after launch and it will be directly competing with just upgrading my PC instead.
So you are going to give up gaming overall? Based on what you are saying you will give up on ps because of the lack of games ,while in reality that lack of games you are talking about Is across all the platforms .
@EL1King no not really. Quite a poor take. Nintendo is cooking. Xbox ain't making games because of Phil's dumb*ss take on "games don't make Consoles" the way forward for consumers is pc at this point because of how ridiculous sony is charging for their ps5 pro. But go enjoy your Concord buddy 😂
An architecture change from AMD to Intel wouldn't be much of a hurdle to backwards-compatability. I can only assume that Sony was unimpressed with Intel's performance and/or pricing for the Xe2 Battlemage GPU technology, or whatever its successor is at any rate.
Very informative, thanks! One thing that bugs me about the PS5 is that it won't/can't play PS3 disks. Really annoying when you consider the Xbox Series X can play Xbox 360 disks. I still have my PS3, PS2 and PS1, so it's not tne end of the world. But it sure is nice with Series X that I don't have to dig out my 360 when I want to play old games.
Well there you go I wrote earlier the ps5 pro is just sony testing waters for ps6 pricing, it could easily cost a thousand euros here in europe in 2028
They can only offer the pro model for a high price because theres a base model people will buy nevertheless. A 1000€ base model would mean that this huge gigantic customer base just brakes away. Pretty sure Sony doesnt want their… lets say 80-100mio sales of consoles when the PS6 drops shrinked to the 20mio. Itd probably still sell better then the pro cause its a new gen. But a big part of the customers would probably not buy it
So the PS6 would be the 2nd console to run 2 other consoles' games? A version of PS3 could play PS1/2. Though the Vita could play PSP and PS1 downloads. Did I miss anything?
Oh I get it. The backwards compatibility is to not make troublesome or expensive the avialbility of Playstation store accross different generation of concoles... That is nice.!
Here's a thought on PS3 feasibility. When they announced the tempest engine, I'm fairly sure they said they repurposed a CU of the gpu to do it in a similar manner to an SPU on the Cell, so in theory maybe they could emulate PS3 on PS5 by using the 8 Core CPU to emulate the main CPU core exclusively and a CU repurposed for each SPU that would still leave a decent number of CUs for GPU and PS3 had very weak GPU anyway.
That's because developers should all just stop releasing on PS4. Then this will create pressure to buy the PS5. All the previous transitions were such that eventually people stopped releasing games for the PS1, PS2 and PS3. But this time it's different. PS4 is still constantly getting new games. Which is strange and should stop.

I mean with the direction of the entire economy companies are pushing to save beyond anything. Seems people only want to care about spending a lot on AI to lead no where when they are flat out ignoring what they are asking for...
And I still haven’t bought a PS5 because there’s no “must have” games for the damn system! This console cycle has been such a joke, being cross generational with PS4 till 2024… Developers haven’t even fully cracked the PS5 architecture and taken full advantage of the console while Sony is preparing the PS6, are they really that out of touch? I want the PS5 generation to continue till at least 2030 until they’ve justified its existence.
Lol. People will hate me for this but it’s partly due to people not upgrading to PS5/Xbox Series that we have such a “problem” with so many cross gen games. Logically developers want to sell to the console with the bigger install base. And if the players refuse to upgrade, the games will continue to launch on last gen. Simple as that.
I bought the PS4 because Assassin’s Creed Unity was next gen only and it looked absolutely breathtaking, that was in 2014. Right after that I played Infamous Second Son + First Light, absolutely loved it. When Bloodborne, The Last Guardian and Uncharted 4 came out, my investment was already justified and everything else after it was icing on the cake. So, no, I don’t think it’s because of people not upgrading from PS4 to PS5 being the reason, it’s because there’s no “actual” desirable game to convince us to make the jump. Astro Bot is the best game PlayStation has released in 4 years and it isn’t designed to be a system seller. From the third-party side, only GTA VI can make people move from PS4 to PS5… but Sony themselves aren’t really making any system sellers. God of War Ragnarok was cross generational, nobody cares about Horizon Forbidden West aside from Industry people, and Spider-Man 2 was criticized for it’s lackluster story. All of this is coming from a PlayStation fan who spent his childhood playing PS2 games.
Covid had put a wrench in the cross generation I believe. That chaos put a lot of people on edge from lockdowns, so perhaps they just clung onto their PS4s and didn't really concern themselves with PS5.
Same, but I also have a vita, I would only spend 500 max for a console even with inflation in 3 or 4 years... consoles shouldn't be the most powerful hardware, they should be accessible to families with children because consoles are the easiest way to get into gaming without a ton of tech issues (like on PC.) They should also have fantastic first party games that make you want to buy the console, like astro bot for example.
Why are you so fixated on the price instead of what you get for the price? What if it cost Sony $700 to make it and they still sell it at$700? Do you expect Sony to sell it at a loss?

If they wanted to, they definitely could’ve used the Blu Ray player to read PS3 discs to “unlock” a digital license for that game, just like Microsoft does it with Xbox. It’s not going to happen, they don’t care about customers… they’d rather “sell” you remakes and remasters.

I mentioned this yesterday, if they make a PS6 backwards compatible. People would literally fight over it.

That's not a particularly wild take, it's rather realistic.

not a bad plan, I may do the same unless sony has something up their sleeve besides raising prices drastically for incremental upgrades
if the ps6 is actually backwards compatible, it better play games off the disc
Dream on, kid.
Better to sell you remasters
I have a feeling that the PS6 will be backwards compatible with PS5 games, and unfortunately I have a feeling that you would have to jailbreak the PS6 to play PS4 games on it. Like how you would have to jailbreak the Wii U to play GameCube games, or the later models of the PS3 to play PS2 games.

Console audience is mostly people playing fortnite cod gta 2k etc they think this audience will stay on console forever

And I still haven’t bought a PS5 because there’s no “must have” games for the damn system! This console cycle has been such a joke, being cross generational with PS4 till 2024…
Developers haven’t even fully cracked the PS5 architecture and taken full advantage of the console while Sony is preparing the PS6, are they really that out of touch?
I wish they'd go for Nvidia for the GPU. There is no real difference between Xbox and Playstation now, in terms of graphics
Imma tell you right now I’ve had every PS system from 1 to 5 except the vita, but if Sony makes the PS6 700 dollars count me out, I refuse lol 😂
You’ll bite
@@drewskiv686 lol not at 700 😂
@@drewskiv686lmao nope. Terrible generation and will not expect it to be any better for ps6. Playstation has fallen big time
Same, but I also have a vita, I would only spend 500 max for a console even with inflation in 3 or 4 years... consoles shouldn't be the most powerful hardware, they should be accessible to families with children because consoles are the easiest way to get into gaming without a ton of tech issues (like on PC.) They should also have fantastic first party games that make you want to buy the console, like astro bot for example.
Why are you so fixated on the price instead of what you get for the price? What if it cost Sony $700 to make it and they still sell it at$700? Do you expect Sony to sell it at a loss?
A part of me is hoping for the ps5/xbox series generation to last until 2030 instead of 2028
