- This week is Matt's Birthday! So, I wanted to make something special for him! He LOVES cake! Especially a nice moist yellow cake. I have been working on my yellow cake made with fresh milled flour for quite sometime! Checkout the video to see if this one was the winner???

My grandaughter and I made this cake for my son-in-law's birthday. I sent it home with my daughter when she picked up the kids. He said he is not really a cake person. After he ate a piece, he announced that he would be eating the whole cake. 😂😅 Your tecipes never disappoint. Thank you!
I used dewberry preserves in between the layers thst I made last summer from berries he foraged and brought me. I frosted it with vanilla buttercream frosting.

Oh darn it I really was gonna make my son‘s birthday cake which is tomorrow the 27th and his name is Matt. But I know he likes yellow cake and not chocolate cake. And I didn’t have a good recipe for freshly milled flour. Didn’t want to experiment on his birthday and mess it up. If only I had seen this a day or two ago. I already ordered his cake. Well, I will try it in the future. And thank you for the recipe.

I've been hearing great things about that A2 milk. A young lady I know is gluten & dairy free but can tolerate that milk. I am looking❤ forward to baking this cake also

Cara you can make your own no aluminum or additives baking powder using 2 tsp. baking soda to 1 tsp. cream of tartar.
Yes, you could it is 1 part cream of tartar, 1 part cornstarch (or any starch substitute) and 2 parts baking powder. The cornstarch helps keep it stable and is a buffer. 😊
I love your videos! I just got a grain mill, unfortunately the Manuel didn’t come with it. I’m so anxious to get started milling,but without the instructions. I won’t use it for fear of voiding the 12 year warranty on it. As soon as I can this is the cake I’m going to make. I had a lot of flops in the beginning, and I think that is where I learned even more! Because I learned new information that I couldn't get from reading or watching someone else.

Yes! This one is super delicious, just make sure to pull it out of the oven as soon as it is done, I accidently overbaked one of my practice cakes, and it makes it a bit dry. But, it is super moist and delicious otherwise! Let me know how it turns out! Happy Baking!

Question: If I use the buttermilk do I eliminate the vinegar?
If you use buttermilk, you don't have to use the vinegar, because that is your acid. But, it wouldn't hurt if you did put it in there. Thanks so much!
Watching this again such a fantastic looking cake! Do you think adding a very ripe banana or two could work? Would I need to reduce any of the wet ingredients??

I use Fairlife lactose free for my coffee. We have another lactose free milk called Natrel. They have a 35% cream. I live in Western Canada 🇨🇦

I don't understand the reason for tapping your pans and off the air out when you flip flipped and whipped the batter to get all out of air in and it's going to rise in the oven and so cakes when they rise in the oven always have more of a dome in the middle of the cake. Maybe you can explain that to me
It’s to get unwanted air bubbles out so there aren’t large holes on the inside of the cake. It also levels the top of the cake batter
Sandy is correct, it knocks out the larger air pockets formed from pouring it in the pans to get the tops a bit more level. I don't tap it enough to knock the air out of the batter. It is still nice and fluffy. Sometimes my cakes dome up in the middle, and sometimes they don't! lol
Just what I have been needing! Why are you using the cookie whisks and not the cake whisks?
These paddles can be used for cookies and cake batters. It made nice and fluffy cake batter. I like to use my balloon whisks for whipping cream, and meringue, etc. I guess just preference. Thanks for watching.
How would this do if I substituted flax seed for the eggs? We have an egg allergy.
I have not tried that with this recipe, but I would assume the flax seed egg alternative would work great! Let me know how it turns out!
I am out of soft white wheat, can I use Einkorn or spelt ? My Azure order doesn't come until next week. I made it with kamut and it sunk in the middle {newbie here} but the taste is delicious .
You can try to use spelt or einkorn, but may need a little less flour, the soft white is the best option for cakes, because it doesn't develop gluten, and it is the lightest to make soft delicate cakes. The others will be a bit denser, but they will taste yummy.
I love white (not yellow) cake. Would one whole egg and two whites work?
I would use 6 egg whites, and beat them to stiff peaks, then fold them into the batter. Let me know how it goes! Happy Baking!
I went ahead and made the cake as per the recipe as it was my great grandson’s #6 birthday and I didn’t want to mess it up. It is absolutely delicious! I used the chocolate butter cream icing on it. As soon as it’s gone I’m on to making the white cake ‼️‼️. You’re the best. Thanks for all you do in helping us.

What would my baking temperature and time be if I made this into cupcakes?
