I've just returned to Annapolis from a solo cruise to Maine. It's a paradise...if you can survive winter.
I have a Dyer 9' Dhow and I'm replacing the rail now.

I was just up in Warren, to get parts, as I want to have another go at the rail. My original work is good enough, but Harold has to Harold.

I think they called this 7' 11" version the "midget" at the time. Probably not anymore, however. Thank you for your engaging, sensitive and not overly-filtered narrative.

hi! Im in the process of restoring one myself, love what you did here. Question, im having a LOT of trouble fitting/installing the new clamp. C-clamping it down is a bit of a nightmare! any advice? does it need to be flush against the hull all the way around before nailing? thanks!!

Good question, which my mushy brain is struggling with. I have been meaning to make a full video on restoring the rails. My quick, cheep answer is, have lots of clamps on hand to help you get the wood just where you want it, and work patiently. I'll try to dig up more information for you, and get that restoration video in the can. Thank you for your kind words and interest.

Great video, thank you for sharing. I purchased a 9’ Dyer Dhow, and hope to sail some this summer-rekindling long is past joys as well! I’ll be looking for your other video of the 9’ also, thanks!!

Sailing is a nice way to relax. Your video reminds me of being in the Lake District.

Thank you. I think what is holding me back on the Kleeper is all the early imagery of it is photos, and I feel I ought to digitize them to tell the story properly. Meanwhile, the weather has closed in, here in New England, so I need to complete one furniture project before I move the Dyer dhow inside to complete the restoration. I hope to take her out this winter, so look for that too.

No, but the "next size up" does. I am glad you enjoyed my video, thank you. I hope to have more on this topic in the coming months.

Hi, I recently posted a video of myself and a friend on a 9 foot Dyer, which has standing rigging. That video is more sedate, but you might enjoy it. Cheers.

    Why Dhow ?

If you mean the name, I will have to ask the folks at The Anchorage the next time I visit. If you mean, why this boat, it goes back to a sailing trip where the small tender for the sailboat our family chartered was stollen in Nantucket. My Dad purchased this boat to serve out the trip, and as a way to encourage more sailing.
