I Had a Baby While on Antidepressants (And It Was Great)

  • I'm so excited to share this video. To me this isn't about medication. This is about taking a stand against perfectionism. It's heartbreaking, the way so many people feel they have to suffer in the name of "doing it the right way" or "the perfect way" or "the best way." Nobody wants you to suffer, my dear. And giving yourself the support you need to feel good and to not be miserable is a gift to you but also an incredible gift to your child. How many of us know the pain of loving a parent who was miserable? A parent who maybe had no idea how to go about loving themselves? So let's start a new parenting trend: ask for more and take up more space so our kids can do the same. Set a higher standard of joy for yourself and you will give your child an invaluable gift. We cannot give something to our child that we do not have. So let's give ourselves and them this: permission to be happy and permission to be free from the emotional prison sentence that is perfectionism. Sending love to you all. Let's be brave and ask brave questions. We each deserve the joy that comes with living an "imperfect" but oh-so fulfilling life.
    xoxo

    I'm literally here because I know I need anti depressants but my husband and I want to start trying for a baby and I have been so anxious and down going from .. we can't have more kids because I don't want to feel this way anymore to, well maybe I'll just stick this out 9 more months 😭. I'm really thankful you shared your story because I feel like is such an automatic "NO NO" that no one is actually talking about it, and it seems much more nuanced.

    Thank you so much for this! I was suffering from really awful depression and anxiety. I had previously been on Zoloft and had tried to come off of it after having been on it, successfully, for a year. I ended up after a little over a year of being off medication to going back on them again. Which at first made me wonder if I was weak. I was doing EVERYTHING. I was going to therapy, I was exercising, I was practicing good self-care... and I was exhausted and overwhelmed and felt terrible. Now I'm back on 10mg of Lexapro and I feel 10000% better. And I'm pregnant! I've taken the medication throughout my entire pregnancy and now I'm about 39 weeks. Definitely have a conversation with your care providers. I knew I wanted to stay on some kind of medication, and most of the time, especially if you are on an SSRI, no harm will come to your baby. I'll be able to breastfeed while taking Lexapro as well.
    Thanks for sharing your story. I think it's the story a lot of moms have but don't talk about.

    I went off of antidepressants for about 6 months last year to try to conceive. It did NOT go well and I went back on them. One year later and we're trying again, this time on antidepressants. (Also I'm not sure if this is temporary but holy shit my mental health has improved since I'm off of the pill. Never going back.) So thank you for sharing a positive story about this. Dont take any drugs while being pregnant be strong for the child. These women that say that they have been taking it and their one year old baby is okay doesnt have a clue. These drugs are very damaging even to an addult individual. The kid can have neural damage that can come to light later on in life. If it is pssd for example he or she will find out about it in puberty. You can start taking meds after the pregnacy if you wont be able to stand your depression. Give your child a chance to find hapiness in life.

    You’re very lucky nothing happened. They cause birth defects and your baby can be in the Nicu. The reason you got sick when you tried to get off is called protracted withdrawal. Would you give your baby the meds now? No.

    • @Calmnessofnight
      @Calmnessofnight 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      She cant really tell if her baby is lucky. There can be damage that will start to show later on in life. Since ssris cause s3xual problems it is probable that children of mothers that take these meds can have pssd and will find out about it in puberty.
