Has nothing to do with paying top dollar for coach. He doesn't want someone like Deion because he would take the spotlight off of him. He would also clash with Jerry over making team decisions and a lot of other things.

@@420247paul It's cool he wanted to stay, but Jerry wouldn't hire him anyway. He needs a puppet as a coach that doesn't take up the spotlight. Prime is no puppet, so it would never happen. It was all to get people to talk about the Cowboys.

I genuinely believe that you cannot win a super w/o a great coach. This is what you get with great coaching -
Bad Roster - minimum 6+ wins
Decent Roster - Wild Card / Playoffs
    Good Roster - Playoff Wins
    Great Roster - Super Bowl
Good to Great rosters can bounced in the first round.

There are two things to add to this discussion: 1. In Colorado, Deion controls his roster through his use of the transfer portal. He would not control his roster in Dallas. 2. Don't think the one phone call between Jerry and Deion didn't profit Deion. He surely used it as leverage in his talks with Colorado. At the end of the day, Deion is better off in Colorado. And Jerry's debatable commitment to doing what it takes to win is status quo.

Makes sense: (1) Deion needs about 3 more years at CO to solidify their last season’s improvement ; (2) Deion is a showboat, but that’s been working for him for the past 40 years and fits in with both the Vegas and Raider vibe; (3) Tom Brady has been coaching Shedeur on the side for several years now; (4) The Raiders need a franchise QB NOW, and Shedeur is available NOW; (5) Pete Carroll loves shaping talented rookie QBs; (6)Vegas’ milder weather and domed stadium will suit Deion’s aging frame; and (7) unlike Jerry Jones, Mark Davis will pay Deion’s asking price.

    3. Brand value must go up
    4. Poor GM

The writing on the wall is that JJ has his eye on a coach he can't have yet and he was only willing to give McCarthy a few years to get there and McCarthy chose to walk now instead of face whatever situation was inevitably going to happen in 1-3 years. His talks with Deion are more about keeping the door open for Deion in a few years when/if he's ready. Brian Shottenheimer is the bridge guy in between McCarthy and the coach JJ wants. JJ would have preferred to keep McCarthy until he can get to Deion or whomever he has his eye on and hiring a low budget, short term guy is his contingency for McCarthy not being willing to play ball.

People keep bringing up Deion coaching his son in the NFL but to me that's a different situation. In college he basically had all the power and there was low expectations. The NFL is too much of a business. It would put everyone in whatever organization he went to with his son in really awkward situations. The only way it goes well is if everything goes well. If they don't at least go 9-8 or so it's gonna cause lots of issues from the Owner on down because someone is getting the finger of blame and if it's on Deion or his son it's basically at both of them.
