Italians make stuff they’d love. Germans make stuff for a market. That makes a massive difference

I used to have one of these, a 1996 MK2. It was still a 1400 8v turbo, but made 300hp and over 400nm with some 102 racing fuel and some other additives. Not reliable, but amazing fun. Spare parts became super rare with them being so limited. I have loads of pictures and videos. Best 400m was only low 13's, but with an open diff traction was a huge issue. Love me an uno! I got a cool story of one of these!
My mum had a 1.3 turbo in black with the red stripes. It almost had its life ended when she hit a deer but it had a private plate on it which was a name of a famous racing driver, so it was worth more than the car and it was repaired instead of being written off. It was then gifted to my idiot brother who didn't have a licence but was doing lessons.
He did what all dumbass 17 year olds did to their cars back then, from anodised halfords special parts to a no fear subwoofer speaker system filling the boot.
Well on one fateful day before he had a licence he decided to take it for a spin with his mates. He went into the country side to do some pills, (like i said, he's a F'ing idiot) on the drive back he proceded to roll the car into a ditch.
At this point he panicked and another fantastic idea came to his mind!
Him and his mates pushed the car over onto its wheels, drove it out the ditch into a farmers access point and set fire to it!
He walks 10 miles back home which gives him enough time to stop buzzing off his tits to tell my mum that the uno has been stolen.
She already knew what had happened as a friend of hers had called to ask why he was walking down a country lane late at night miles from home.
But she didn't say a thing, and thought it would be fun to play along with his lies.
With her camera in hand and me in tow we went on an adventure to find the little uno! Well we found the private number plate in the ditch and the car burnt to a crisp around the corner.
She got some good photos of the remnants of the former family vehicle, contacted the police to report it, and then we made our way to the local papers.
She paid for a LARGE piece in there with a reward for anyone who knew what had happened to her poor little uno.
I will never forget my brothers face when she showed him that paper.
20 years later and my idiot brother still doesn't know Mum knows.

I've got such a brother, too. And I feel with you. I just don't get it.

The Uno was taller & had a higher centre of gravity than the Boxer engined Sud, I think the Sud had a wider track as well, so they were more planted. Stick some lowering springs, spacers & a roll bar on an Uno, & they are almost on par with a Sud though.

@@BlackLines Oh wow. Here in the UK there is only 1 Fuego showing as on the road on the Howmanyleft database. I had a 2.0 GTX and the 1.6 Turbo. The 2.0 was the better car really. The hatches on those rotted so bad. Largest single piece of glass of any production car at the time. And it had a tiny metal frame around the outside. You had to be so careful opening and closing the hatch and the glass flexes and you can smash them.

A short time ago a Fiat Uno SCV 2000 was auctioned in Argentina 🇦🇷... a single copy, it was a prototype authorized by Fiat but never marketed. Sorry for my English

You can see in the video the blinker was on for sure, it's the white glass on the Uno, not the red.

The best thing is that the kid in the Fiesta (on his Mum's insurance), will 100% be seeing this and will forever be known as "Fiesta dickhead"... a name that fits all Fiesta ST drivers to a tee!

There's a video floating around on the internet where a mad bloke swapped his uno turbo's engine with the 16v turbo from a coupe and boosted it to 400 hp and was basically outaccelerating a nissan GTR.

One of the best / worst cars I ever owned. Fast AF and bags of character with drum brakes on the back.
