This brings back happy memories from the eighties. I used to be college champ at this. I tried playing it on an emulator, but you can't get the control from a mouse so I can't get past level four. I'm currently trying to find a reasonably priced trackball. Thanks for posting this.
Wow! I love Marble Madness, though I am more familiar with the NES version, and had not even seen the MAME version until now. Thoughts: 1) Seeing it now, am actually very impressed with how well the NES renders the levels. 2) I love the near-end shortcut you took on the silly level, backdrop down off the up ramp to the flats. Very nice. 3) Holy @#$% I think you came as close as possible to finishing without actually finishing!! XD
There was now fast or slow button in the arcade game. Just a track ball. So there will be no mapping for buttons in Mame. Hit the tab key to see what mapping you can do.
UGG! SO CLOSE!!! I usually puke after a finish like that or just punch myself in the balls. Seriously though- I love this F'in game. I wish there were more levels. I've seen the clips of the MM2 prototype on here, they should have released it, and they still should!!
I just finished the game last night on my MAME system! On the play before I beat the game, I ended up just like you did here: bumping into the damned finish line pole and running out of time! D'oh!
No... not the proper approach for a mis-behaving game. I made the game sit in the corner for 10 minutes of "time-out". My Marble Madness was much better behaved after it had properly thought through what emotional trauma that it had caused me.
It pissed me off that XBOX360 arranged for the release of so many of the old games for download via XBOXLIVE, but instead of releasing this one, they made a Marble game that isn't very Marble Madness-esk. WAA waa. They really should create MM 2010!
I fucking hate those hammer screwhead things at 2:00 I mean it was rare that I got past them and when I did I never had enoiugh time to do the silly race level even when I ate those little things that gave u more time

Wow! You did a great job getting that far. The farthest I've ever been was stage 3.
The arcade version. Playing this on a PC via Mame, an arcade game emulator.
