I have to repair a cabinet door this weekend. This video confirmed much of what I thought would be required, and pointed out a few things I'd have missed. Thanks very much.
Good video. I have an entertainment center door that was broken during a house move and now feel I can repair it so it looks like it was never damaged.
Mr. Eagle, I like to use small pieces of paper towel and discard them after they get glue on them. The wet rag gets too much glue in it and it starts to leave a residue. Use the rag after most of the glue is wiped off. Band clamps can let the rails roll off plane, and I get too much glue on me, and them. I can keep the bar clamps straight and set one rail at a time.
Well sir it is now 2021 and this is a fantastic tutorial. Some "movers" broke the lower right cabinet door off a cherry 2 piece archtop china cabinet we own. I will try this soon . Thank You!
Thank you so much for this clear and comprehensive tutorial. I ran into an open bathroom vanity cabinet door. It wrenched it off the top hinge and broke the stile. Been looking at it for too long as it hangs off-kilter and finally decided to fix it. All I need to do now is buy bar clamps and wood glue and get to work repairing it.
Use Water or steam at the joints, unfortunately it will probably ruin the finish. I’ve used a router to cut the back out of a door to change the panel. The inside will not look good again.
Phthya, you can use rope, like clothesline, and use a stick tied to the rope and tighten it like a tourniquet to tighten the parts together. This is going to be very hard to keep things square, but better than trying to use nails to repair the breaks. Good Luck!
Mr. Hardware I noticed you said you’re shipping the door back to the customer. Do you accept repairs from out of state? In my area I’m sure they’d charge me an arm and a leg for this same kind of repair.
Ahh, kindred soul. I love how meticulous you are with details!!! It's like watching a woman doing crafts (that's a compliment). A lot of male (not all) carpenters rarely notice thin cracks, small holes and slight (millimeter) misalignments.
Great video. I did glue it wrong the first time.... and I'm sure it will break again once I hang it up. THink I"ll be able to just sand off all of the hard glue and do it again? Thank you
You will not be able to sand off much glue successfully because the glue is harder than the wood so you remove more wood than glue and the pieces will not fit together perfectly. A perfect fit makes for a strong joint. Sometimes I use a sharp small wood chisel to carve out the glue. Be careful you do not run the chisel into your hand. Always work on a bench so if the chisel slips, which it will, it will go into the bench, not your hand.
My sister broke a cabinet in our house and the center of it broke off and slides down to the floor and I’m not sure what to do because I don’t want my dad to find out and get mad at us what do I do
Instead of using bits of paper towel to clean up the excess glue, why not use a wet rag and rise it off once in a while? Also what is your opinion of a banding clamp for frames? cdn.dickblick.com/items/351/23/35123-1015-1-3ww-l.jpg
You know what you’re doing for the most part. One area of criticism is necessary if I was to hire you and watch you repair my property. You spoke of “amateur carpenters” and yet you used a hard topped hammer or mallet it looked and banged into the top of the cabinet door when you were aligning the clamps to make sure everything was flush. It almost looked like you dented when you were hitting as well. Now using a hardened rubber mallet would have been pro status. Using the hard hammer that you used is something I did when I was about 10 years old. How do you like that huh?

Thank you for posting your experience
I have a door where the center panel was kicked in…how do I get the outer frame apart on one end to replace the panel
Use Water or steam at the joints, unfortunately it will probably ruin the finish. I’ve used a router to cut the back out of a door to change the panel. The inside will not look good again.
Perfect job!!!

Thanks f or the confidence to do this job. Thanks fr the details.
If only I had a nickle for everybody I got to do a job they were nervous to attempt.
THANK YOU, so much. This helped me a lot
We charge about $25 to $40
I try to get about $2 a minute to cover costs. We're here to help, not get rich on one job.

Is Gorilla glue or Super glue a viable option? Or should I stick with wood glue? Thanks for the great video.
This is a good to know, thanks

what if I don't have clamps? I want to try to repair my kitchen drawers

Thanks for taking the time to give that advice! Greatly appreciated.
use a demp rag, so that you can keep using it to wipe off glue
I think I will also glue in the panel, for extra support.
No, dont do that..your door will twist up really badly. it really does need to float inside the framing (rails and stiles).
Thanks. I'm going to give it a go.

I did'nt know Sylvester Stallone fixed broken cabinet doors :O by the way, you did a fine job there sir.

Do you accept shipped items for repair? Or only local drop off.
Please call Jennifer and give her a description of the repair and she will take care of you. 586-776-9532
How much did you charge for something like this? Cabinet shops charge hundreds of dollars for a simple job like this.
Why not just buy a tiny paint brush?

Here because i punched one of my cabinets
Same but kicked a hole in one.
Make it yourself thanks to Woodprix plans. I think it's the best way to learn how to build it in the cheapest way.
