Not just this video, but in Hypa Hypa's breakdown when he's standing on top of the drums just going fuckin ham on the cymbal kills me every time
The best thing: They applied with this song for the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2022 in Turin.
Now they have to pass the German preselection in March and then they need every support they can get from everywhere around the globe to get votes from whole Europe.

I would definitely recommend checking out their song, 'Hate/Love' to hear more of his clean vocals. There's a good mix of vocal range in that song and it really shows his singing capability without the comedy themed music video (although, we all love that really!).

They just dropped an acoustic version of "Pump it" on their channel. A great chance to analyze Nico's voice!
And by the way, the butt shots are a direct reference to Eric Prydz's ridiculously oversexualized 2004 music video "Call on Me."
They also reference 1985s movie 'Perfect' with Jamie Lee Curtis and John Travolta with this.
There's a good version of Hypa Hypa with Sasha and Eskimo Callboy where they do a smoother version of the song while roller skating. It's impressive how well the song still works.
Also with german Folk Rock Band Saltatio Mortis, which somehow still works
they released an acoustic version of this song as well its pretty good

Great reaction Julia. Eskimo Callboy is just a fun and catchy band. They just put out an acoustic version of Pump It that I think you'll absolutely love with no harsh vocals, Nico is singing the entire song, and Kevin is harmonizing with him beautifully, it is amazing. They are not a "gimmicky" band, they are super talented.

Regarding more examples of Nicos clean singing, there's also plenty of stuff from his previous band "To the Rats and Wolves". They have a pretty similar style to Eskimo Callboy.

I love why they made this song, they said that they always see comments from people saying they exercise to their music, I deffinatly do this myself ! So they made a specific song for working out at the gym.

One thing you can definitely say about Eskimo Callboy - they're a lot fitter than they look.
they are completely underrated. I really don't understand why they don't chosen for the ESC (Eurovision Song Contest). They would reach one of the first 5 places - I swear! Because everybody just have fun with the music.
So to hear more of Nico, I would suggest his audition for EC (Prism Cover) or Hate/Love
Those skimpy leotards are just what women wore to work out in the 80s. Okay, maybe it's a bit exaggerated here with the fishnets and stuff (that's pure 80s music video). Still yet another reason the 80s and 90s were peak human civilization!

I feel the music video's butt-focus and vibe in the stretching part is very heavily inspired by Eric Prydz - Call On Me music video from 2009. His flirty smiles are so exaggerated, yet similar, (and like you said, kinda naively or innocently suggestive in a boyish..? way) it's gotta be parody of that "sole guy among women at the gym" thing in some "like a kid in a candystore"-tone. Or at least that's the vibe I get :D

Not one reaction video noticed the origin of the theme to this video. There is a movie with John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis from 1985 called Perfect. If you can find some scenes here on TH-cam you'll see the similarities

Genuinely a great workout song, I was on a run today and Pump It brought it home, dont think I had run that fast before in my life couldnt disappoint the boys.

If you want to hear a song that Nico shines on, I suggest Hate/Love. It gets a bit overlooked because the song and video isn't comedic but it's still great.

If you want an Eskimo Callboy song with Nico that is more "serious", take a look at Hate/Love. Still suggestive themes but definitely a step away from the comedic side of things....but still a banger!

I was surprised you didn't mention the ascending run alternating between harsh and cleans note for note. You reviewed that section pretty in-depth around 14:15 but never mentioned it. Nobody has! It stood out to me on first listen as really impressive!

This is just a great feel good song! I'm glad you had fun reacting to the video. It's all good fun and light hearted. The band really puts as much effort into the video as the music to really produce a quality product that brings joy to the fans. So many little details, it's a really good formula. Definitely a Banger Anthem.
