I really appreciate Michael taking the time to speak about his time on Star Gate/SG-1. Daniel Jackson was my favorite character on the show and he completely nailed that role. I can't imagine anyone else playing Daniel Jackson. Well done sir and thank you.
The best decision i ever made and the best years of my life were joining the air force in ‘06 right after high school. I chose security forces 100% because of watching this show as a kid. Never got to see the SGC, go off world, or fight aliens, but i did stand in my fair share of hallways at parade rest and walk back and forth in front of fences.
I know that no studio would green light a Stargate production that didn't have vibrant young actors (think of the hilarious youth oriented recasting scene in the SG-1 episode 200) but I'd watch SG-1 episodes with all of the original actors... forever. They don't need to run and gun. The dialog and character interactions were the best, and that's a credit to both the actors and the writers.
I loved Stargate from the very beginning. I'm only 2 years younger than Michael, so it was really awesome to watch people my own age on my favorite show.
We need a new series with Daniel as the older, wiser leader of an archaeological expedition in the SG universe. Still with the military element, but the focus should be on exploring some new mysterious frontier.
I loved every episode Michael Shanks did and SG1 is my favorite show of all time because of your performances and the overall group dynamics and hopefulness and humor of the show. It's been a year since I went through the show last and it's time to start over again
I'm on series 9, I didn't watch 9 and 10 as I didn't like one of the films and assumed 9 and 10 wasn't worth watching. I really like series 9, I hope I can find series 10. Watched series 1 to 8 probably 3 or 4 times, yes, like you I'll go 1 to 9 in a few months. I love the humour and stories, they are so well written and performed
I've introduced to my children. They will inherit my dvds of the show and movies. The heart and soul of this franchise is the forever hope many of us have for our future. Thank you David and Michael.
What a fabulous way to end season 3! It has been an awesome Stargate weekend with Dial the Gate! It was so great to see Michael and have him share his memories with us :) Thank you, David!
Sadly I missed this but luckily we can still watch it! Michael Shanks is an amazing Actor and he and his character really added a lot to the atmosphere of the show!
And once again my respect and admiration for Michael - as an actor and itherwise - goes through the ceiling. He was shooting Sg1 in the day and giving Hamlet performances in the evening ...!!! Wah!?!?!?❤️
Wow. Great interview. Michael’s recall of the 10 years of his key role in SG1 is amazing. An amazing insight into his career spoken with humour and honesty. Please bring Micheal, Amanda, Chris, Brad Wright and other ‘originals’ into the new show!
SO NICE TO SEE MICHAEL AGAIN. HE IS SUCH A TALENTED ACTOR. LOVED HIS PROTRAYAL OF DANIEL JACKSON. HE IS JUST AS HANDSOME AS EVER. ENJOYED ALL HE HAS DONE.
I grew up watching Stargate as it aired and I’m currently binging it after not having seen a single episode in about 12 years (on season 10). So the grey/white beard was a bit of a shock to the system but, yes, definitely, Shanks is just as handsome as ever. Completely agree.
For some reason, I couldn't access the comments during the live, so I didn't have a chance to ask anything. But this was a great interview. I credit your approach @DialtheGate to making him feel at ease and on the difficult stuff, not making him feel backed into a corner. He seems relaxed and open to the questions, and I enjoyed his willingness to laugh at situations but also be honest. He's had many years to process, grow, and as He said has learned a lot about the gift Stargate SG-1 really was. I enjoyed hearing about his other projects, family, and silly happenings. I hope He does return next season. I would love to hear about his time on Saving Hope and his interactions and experiences with that crew. Thanks for all the hard work this season! :)
I am just starting to watch the series now after finally seeing the movie. Just a fantastic show. I know Michael is probably trying to get away from his James Spader impression of Daniel but I was blown away at how incredible his performance was. Just spot on! Thanks for all you do!❤
I'm only about 30 minutes in, so maybe this question is going to pop up at some point...but would he be open to coming back as Daniel if they rebooted Stargate? I would love to see Richard, Amanda, Michael, and Chris all come back.
You know how you know you're watching a great program? When the last episode of a series of Dial The Gate leaves you with that same empty feeling as the last episode of a season of Stargate itself: we all know what I mean, like you just lost something you love and can only hope it returns for another season, that hole that is left behind... Thanks for all the effort David! Hope to see you soon next year! And maybe a bit early already, but enjoy the holiday season at the end of the year and recharge those batteries!
I was so happy being able to share Stargate SG 1 with a few coworkers, and having them fall in love with the series and asking me many questions (most of which were spoilers and I wasn't about to entertain that), and Michael was a HUGE part of my growing up. Much love
The same thing happened to me with my appendicitis. I had very strange symptoms, like stomach aches and headaches. Just as I got under the knife my appendix burst and had to stay with a tube in me for 5 days for drainage. That was in 2000.
I hope that Michael doesn't undervalue his work playing Daniel in the early seasons just because another actor previously played a version of the character. Of course, nobody takes anything away from Heath Ledger or Joaquin Phoenix because they weren't the first Joker, and the same should be true here. Michael's Daniel Jackson was a wonderful and affecting character in a way that the film version never had the chance to be. In the first five seasons, when SG-1 had a consistently more mature edge to it, Jackson was often the one speaking to real issues of politics, military, foreign policy, ethics, culture, and philosophy. He's the character that largely elevated the show into a work that had something poignant to say, and Michael's performance brought the believability and humanity to it that made it so moving. It's understandable to want to do something else after half a decade, but I'll always cherish those early years with the character.
Thank you for interview. I loved the moral depth of the show. I respected that SG teams visited other planets but never tried to take them over/colonise/indoctrinate with "earth values".
Incredible interview! Hearing Michael talk about the show was special because I grew up on SG1 and is one of my favourite shows of all time. So glad I found your channels! You do a great job sir.
I know James spader starred in the original film that spawned all the series afterwards and is imo a fantastic actor but I genuinely loved Michael in his role in sg1 and later in Atlantis no one else could have played him
Been waiting this one! Michael is one of the best actor and work hours flew by with this interview :D hopefully he comes again at somepoint.. could listen all day :)
Just.. Thank you to both of you for this interview. I watch all of the SG series rather often and hold SG in a special place in my heart, I can't even put my appreciation for this interview into words. Again, Thank You.
Stargate, especially SG1 and SGA are the epitome of what science fiction can be, the characters follow morals and show us the world as it ought to be, I like how star trek portrayed this, but they made it far to black and white, stargate explored the gray area and in doing so allowed us to view the human condition in it's raw form rather than a sterilized good/evil dichotomy that so much television sci-fi presents. The only other sci-fi on its level is The Expanse, at least in my opinion.
My first time watching your show but that was amazing to hear my favorite childhood actor talk about my favorite show. I really can't wait now for the next season.
What a great interview., outstanding job both of you. Got this recommended by a friend who I grew up with watching all the scifi. SG1, andromeda, farscape all intertwined when it comes to cast. If at some point the make another spinoff that isn't cancelled soon as it develops legs they gonna need to find a place for Daniel in some form.
Replay crew here! So sad I missed the live. But thank you David and thank you Michael!!! Amazing end to season 3. Stargate is an integral part of every single day in my house, can’t wait to see what you bring in Season 4! 🙏
Damn/Thank you David! Now you've made me want to go rerun the entire series. 😂😂😂 As always, thank you kindly for all the hard work and effort you and the team put in to keep the fire burning. ✌🏻💚
I hope you have him back soon! I don't normally ask questions - I just enjoy the show - but I really want to ask him what it was like to play Rick Singer in the College Admissions Scandal movie he did for Lifetime a few years back and what he thought of all that crazy because I'm sure as a Canadian, he must have been rolling his eyes behind the scenes lol. Not sure if you've seen it but I highly recommend it for the entertainment value alone, I'll just have it on in the background sometimes and enjoy the trainwreck. It's on Tubi if you haven't watched it - grab some popcorn and enjoy!
@@DialtheGate It was filmed in Vancouver so of course there'll be at least a couple of Stargate alums in it. Robert Moloney aka Boren from 2001 ("I know his name - he was boring! - Jack O'Neill 😂) plays one of the cheating parents. It must be a little weird as an actor to play a real person but this guy was such a douche, Michael probably really enjoyed playing him.
Great interview David thanks to you, your team and Michael, this was just what I needed today. Wish I had caught it live that appendix story wow same thing happened to a friend of mine on New Years Eve of all times she had about two glasses of champagne then started to get pain so bad she called an ambulance and rushed into surgery it burst on the operating table. I've heard that if you're going to work somewhere remotely like Antarctica or Space for Astronauts they just take the appendix out before you go just in case because that is not something you deal with when you're days away from being able to get medical care for it. Have heard stories from outback Australia where a regular General Practitioner has had to remove an appendix with minimal anaesthetics scary thought!
