As a Zilean one trick, my only thought is that he's doing it for a bit more survivability in lane early (Zil is pretty rubbish pre 6 you are correct). He's also using guardian which I'm not sure everyone has picked up. I've done what he's doing a fair bit myself, but you usually do it for lanes where you're looking to farm and scale not fight or constantly try for poke. You don't have the mana regen to sustain all the poke you would normally want to put out. Especially taxing if you're missing the bombs constantly lol. If he'd gone an Aery page which is most common, the poke wouldn't have been so draining. Zilean typically does ok in to Rakan but you need to be aware that Rakan W is roughly the same range as Zilean's bomb.

Just because it's a pro playing it, doesn't mean it was played like a pro lol. You can tell it's not on his usual roster of champs.

relic Shield is good against bad matchups so you don't have to Q to proc Ur gold item
