Strange how the long jump standard has dropped into Decathlon range in the last few Olympics. Its not like the sprinters and steroids have declined, maybe they all go to the NBA instead? But at least now there are some great longjumpers like Echeverria who has jumped 8.90 windy, youd never see Rutherford get anywhere near that no matter how windy. Since the amazing battle between Cal Lewis and Mike Powell the long jump has been a premier event and Pedrosa was the last great to win Olympic Gold and was unfortunate to be screwed out of a legitimate WR of 8.96 because the organizers didnt want to give away a prize car (not at that Olympics) Athletes capable of 8.70+ do exist, its a shame Athletics isnt as popular as it should be otherwise we would see these guys and not just one or two that are capable of this.
@@Upthebroncos310 the wind meter was working and showed legal wind but the organizers had offered a prize of a brand new car to anyone who broke a world record that day so when he jumped 8m96 they called it "wind reading obstructed" as a technicality so they didnt have to pay the prize as it wouldnt be deemed an official world record even though it was a lie told by the organizers as the wind reading wasnt actually obstructed at all , its officially recorded as 8.96 with +1.2 wind
@@cattycats4 seriously? That’s fucked up, all because they didn’t want to give away a car, if you don’t want to give away a car don’t offer one up, I’d be pissed if I was him. I remember the jump I just honestly thought it was wind assisted, either way it’s still a massive jump.
@@cattycats4 the guy was literally standing in front of the wind machine in all of his jump. Gtfo lmao. And Carl Lewis was a doping cheat, all of the '80s and' 90s were.
Yes, heavy steroids. Carl Lewis was found doping so many times during his career, but always covered by the US. 3 times positive in 1988, but nobody found out until much later.
Sydney 2000 - Ivan Pedroso 🇨🇺 8.55
Athens 2004 - Dwight Phillips 🇺🇲 8.59
Beijing 2008 - Irving Saladino 🇵🇦 8.34
London 2012 - Greg Rutheford 🇬🇧 8.31
Rio 2016 - Jeff Henderson 🇺🇲 8.38
Greg Rutherford won with the shortest winning jump since the 1960’s I want to say.
Before Sydney, Carl Lewis won it 4 times in a row. Amazing

Thank you
Thank you
This is why everyone loves Olympics
I love how every single jumpers have their own styles before starting to run. It feels so personal!
Agree !
Yup!
Medal ceremonies were just majestic
Very very fine jumpers!
Best Olympics admin for a reason
When the guy from Cuba cried, I felt that.
Did you know Pedroso coaches women athletes in triple jump? He not only was a great athlete, but a brilliant minded coach.
Heavy, uncontrolled doping = '80s, 90s
Controlled doping = now
You can clearly see the difference.
Everyone gonna love olympics for sure.
And in a few days, it's time for Miltos Tentoglou to take the gold medal for Greece! Go boy!!!!
I expect him to reach 8.7m, at least 8.60m.
I am bored to see 8.3m in this most prestigious event like in the last decade.

Am I the only one who knew the champions before seeing the video?
I did too hahah
This video should include the great Carl Lewis who was unbeatable at 4 consecutive Olympics, from 1984 to 1996.

Is there a website for the fastest top speed runs in every event, such as sprinting and long jump?
These jumpers need to get back over 28 ft
Echeverria jumped over 8.90 with above legal wind, he is capable of doing 8.9m in the Olympics
