I know that the French version of "lol" (laughing out loud) is "mdr" (mort de rire). What are other typical contractions that I might find in French comments?

Merci beaucoup! I changed my phone’s language to french, so all of the apps are like that too which definitely helped to learn a lot of these. What really gets me is Google Maps and their french directions. Also the "anatomy" of a car.

Thank you so much for this video. It’s very interesting and yes, definitely make one (if you can) about computers. I think these kind of videos where you talk about common words in a specific topic are very helpful. It’s crazy how the spoken French (especially spoken by young people) is so different to the one we learn in school or in French courses.

Memories of school in the 2000s learning disquette, ordinateur, clavier, écran! My dictionary from then has a page about writing very formal looking emails and French "texto" :/ Thanks for the new (and much more up to date) vocab!

Yes, it would totally be great if you did more of the texting vocab. Thanks for this video! Also, if you could clarify. When two friends are done talking on a call, how do you say "bye". The informal bye. I've heard Salut, a demain, a plus and stuff but can we also say au revoir , or is it something y'all say only when you're not seeing or don't know when you'll be seeing or talking to the person next, like a goodbye?

"au revoir" is too formal between friends, especially around my age.

hmm I'm not sure we say that today anymore, maybe before yeah. but today we would definitely say "brancher mon téléphone" meaning "charger mon téléphone"

Great video as always! Question: I feel like I’m struggling to understand when it’s more appropriate to use nous vs. on. Are they interchangeable or are there times when on is more appropriate than nous?

ah so I'll tell you how I use it, knowing I'm a young girl in my thirties from Paris France etc...
I ALWAYS say "on", and really quite rarely say "nous". only in formal or professional emails. and if I were to meant the president haha
or if I'm speaking with someone who speaks really formally, I would try to match they way of speaking as a form of respect.
but yeah if you're around my age, you can almost forget about "nous" in everyday spoken language.
not for a professional setting of course^^
Other people speak differently. I'm sure it's different in other parts of France or in Belgium or in Quebec. So it also really depends who you speak French with, where you're learning French.
Bonjour ! J'ai une petite question : vous n'avez pas de sous-titres en anglais et les sous-titres automatiques de TH-cam proposent des mots bizarres quand vous passez aux mots français. Est-ce que ce serait possible d'améliorer cela? Je pense en particulier aux personnes malentendantes :) Merci !

sometimes we use the word "scroll" and make it a verb : "scroller"
but you can also say "faire défiler"

"le tchat" is the most commonly used on twitch. Contrary to "chat" with the drawn out "ch" sound which would only refer to the animal.

Bonjour ! As I was taking notes on your video I noticed 10 of the vocabulary are masculin, and only 3 are féminin. Is it more common for words that trickle down from English get a masculin article or maybe it has to do with the word’s ending usually? If there’s just not explanation for why a French word is masculin or féminin that’s understandable too, just wondered if “new“ French words maybe had a trend. Love your content, I found this video VERY helpful!!
ah yeah that's a very good this you noticed. So yeah usually when we use an english word in French it's going to be masculine : un email, un sandwich, un burger, un parking etc....

J'ai remarqué que t'as dit «streetfrench dot org » mais j'ai entendu souvent «point » au lieu de «dot » quand on parle d'une site du web - mais cette experience est parmi mes contemporains aux Pyrénées Atlantique plutot que la jeunesse doré de Paris ! Est-ce que je dois m'entrainer désormais de dire «dot » ?
ah non en français c'est "point com ou point org" mais je parlais en anglais c'est pour ça que j'ai dit "dot"

Oui, mais on peut aussi utiliser "déposer" qui est plus juste pour "to upload". Sinon, on le francise également donc tu peux dire "uploader" et "downloader" et ça se comprend sans problème 😊

I would say 'consulter Instagram tous les matins'. Nb we often use plural when English use singular (every other day = tous les deux jours, each other = les uns les autres,...)

In Spanish, for the "like" we say: darle like.
Traduit en français il serait comme "donner like"
How about "tag"? I struggle with "tagger" or "tagguer" to get the correct pronunciation. And in, say, past tense....j'ai taggé ? J'ai taggué ? Ni l'un ni l'autre ? Merci !

This was an interesting video and I would really like it if you made another one that delves into other computer terms. By the way, is there a way in French te-o distinguish between 'upload' and 'download', or are they both just 'télécharger'? What about e-mail, both verb and noun in French; is it "un e-mail" or just "un mail"? What about "courriel"?
For upload, i use "upload', like, " j'ai uploadé une vidéo sur youtube", but for download, it's always "télécharger". Email is not formal french, but used a lot, for formal french and writing, i use "courriel"

But rarely courriel. Courriel is more used in Quebec
Mais comment les anglophones disent-ils « liker » un contenu ? Car « like » veut dire aimer donc il ne peuvent pas faire la différence entre « j’ ai aimé ta photo » et « j’ai liké ta photo » (j’ai cliqué sur j’aime). Donc on peut dire que le français est plus précis dans ce cas, non 😉?

@@Street_French I work in a field where people want to give advice to parents/caregivers, but it might not be their professional institution's views, so lots of educators, professors, etc, put this on their page. It's a legal protection, if anything. Hope this explains a bit better. Maybe you don't have to worry about this in France, but I wanted to add it to my twitter.
