The Germans took over the town where he and his wife were located, and took them into custody. They got him to make a radio broadcast and that was what caused the uproar back home in the UK. He wasn't being pro axis but emotions were so high at the time, the general assumption was that he was. He moved to the US due to UK tax issues as well as the fuss over his broadcast. He was a brilliant man. He and his wife loved dogs so much, during the war they gave their meat rations to their dogs. Lovely couple. ❤

Isn't it fascinating that we humans come together like this? We all like the stories, and your voice, how you create something special, unique, and then I realize I've been smiling for an hour. I can listen to the same ones over and over again without diminished enjoyment. Here I am, a septugenarian grandmother in a senior living apartment in Ohio, my cocker spaniel lying on my feet. I'm keeping up with my friend, Tony Walker, who is half a continent and an ocean away. Such a gift you have. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
And yes, I'm a patron and pre-ordered your new book. ❤🙏

I loved this story! Fantastic! That dog, William, stole my heart, he and I could both polish up our social skills a bit! 😄 As for that billionaire werewolf, tell him to ☎me. Seriously, I always want to read those paranormal romances with the bare chested vampire-pirate ghost, but I get about 10 pages in and can not do it. The book gets set on my desk until a month later, then it goes to another table for a month and then it goes on a book shelf for 4 years and then it goes to a garage sale for 25 cents. This has happened -a hundred- 4 or 5 times in the last couple of decades... 🐕

Trees grien fro pups are a bit hut and miss but worth trying . Quite often you get little apples that are tart (crab apples) but i have to say they make the best apple sauce and sage and crab apple sauce / jelly on pork chops or belly slices is divine 😋🥰

I was nearly 30 before I found out that not everyone thinks like me! It shocked me to the core! I honestly believed, that with the exception of a few weird people, most people thought like me. Ridiculous I now know.

This might be my favorite of your narrations.
So many different points of view are perfectly lampooned by Wodehouse but are missed by other narrators. There's not a slack moment in the action. 0 fat content, nothing to trim or add.
This is a rollercoaster of character types, all 2 dimensional by design, and yet enormously engaging and entertaining.
Wodehouse makes me want to spend time with characters who are basically cardboard cut outs but are more fun than any real people I know. That's his genius.
Your genius is hitting every note perfectly and on time, never overdoing the already overdone, and never missing the comic timing. Genius, pure genius.
I hope you enjoyed doing it as much as I enjoy listening to it. It's a standard go-to when I'm taking myself too seriously because it reminds me that I'm a cardboard cut out, too.😅

    Great story, lots of fun.
Thought your tangent at the end about divisions of opinions leading to people de-humanising others and refusing to engage in any dialogue, was very good. I think this whole culture of creating extremely opposed ideological camps has become more intense in the world of social media, not just because everyone is trying to prove their virtue (or put down enemies) vocally, but also the camps have become so varied or niche that even people who would describe themselves as fellow "leftists" (or "rightists" but it seems worse on the "left") attack each other for not having the same specific ideology. Personally I think a lot of people refuse to engage with different opinions because they are terrified theirs just might be wrong...

Every good house has some Wodehouse."

    Great ramble.
Love your point on lack of discourse. All the Scotches you listed are excellent. I am an American, and Scotch is one of my drinks of choice!
Love your discussion about coffee. I love coffee from Africa.
Keep up the fantastic work! Great job!
I learned more about the English/Welsh countryside as well!
    Thanks again!

Tony Walker that is the most eyes open description of humans putting themselves in self righteous boxes. New to your channel, certainly wasnt expecting something like that after an audiobook read. Thank you. I will be checking out the rest of your work.

Love Wodehouse! I’ve seen all the Laurie/Fry episodes-they’re brilliant. I’ve never heard this gem, and the combo of ghost story and humor is fabulous. Thank you! Re: your comments about the polarization of society, yes it’s true. Enough said, as I’m deeply disturbed by the increase. It’s not boring to hear your tidbits at all-quite interesting! If you want a coffee treat, grind dark roast beans with cardamom pods, star anise and cinnamon. Heavenly! I don’t like whiskey, my preferred tipple is vodka. Hope your puppy gets better soon! I’m amazed you were able to grow apples from seeds. I recommend a magical book called The Man Who Planted Trees and Grew Happiness. 😊

I will be keeping this for another night!! I definitely love your style of speech, unfortunately my anxiety is too high tonight to only listen to your voice, even as imaginative as it is! Maybe it would be good for morning, as I get ready for my day ❤
