I love film just as much as the next film junkie, but building your own camera is some next level wizard shit... I love your drive to make what isn't commonly available! Got a new sub! (Also, love the grainydays inspiration)
Great work Zalán, I had almost exactly same idea back when I was just started photography history in university, even with same frame size, though I was imagine it to be a pinhole instead of having lens in my case.
How can you sound so melancholic talking about something as awesome as a 3'd printable camera that you made yourself. Even the photos are amazing, geez my dude, cheer up, it's okey to be proud.
When I build my own cameras, I always auto-colimate the lenses by looking at a target through the lens with a 210mm zoom on my SLR. You can get a lot more precision like that.
Inventive. The car wash is « dope » [really striking]. Start small [fixed focus]. You're already planning the variable focus version. Consider adding masks for 6x12 and 6x9, and adding more red windows to facilitate proper frame spacing. On Etsy over 8 people have it in their baskets.
making Bellows is not hard. it is actually very easy to make your own camera bellows. with todays awesome tech, you can even 3D print camera bellows using a resin printer and special flexible resin!! its pretty awesome honestly. traditional bellows can be made by anybody that has access to a hobby store for the fabric and cardstock.
I photoscan with a MFT camera all the time, from the E-M5 Mark II years ago, to an E-M1 Mark III now. They all come out with great results when using HiRes shot modes Olympus put in and Panasonic copied with the G9 and now S cameras. I also photoscan with a Pentax KP first and now a K-1 Mark II, both using a Pixel Shift HiRes mode to improve color detail and get less noise. Another use for them is I take digital shots of large paintings for people that want digital backups without scanning large pieces. Interesting pano camera, 2 thumbs up for building it and developing the film yourself. I make prints now too after getting a massive discount (free outside of going and getting it) on a solid color enlarger and everything else for developing prints from the college I went to that axed their commercial photography major and the film classes along with it.
I'd love to try this...if not for all the prerequisites that I don't have. I'm not much of a photographer anyway. I do have an AE1, but I forgot how to use it, and develop it, 40 years ago. Please show more pictures though!
I feel like i have to have this.... Do you we need to calibrate the camera when we get it or will the shipped models come ready to go when you pop a lens on?
That's impressive! My current challenge is that I dig the look of large format photography but I'm only willing to handle something as heavy as a Pentacon Six or Pentax 67. Maybe there is a way to build a lens addon that compressed the image circle of a large format lens on a fresnel lens and than getting compressed and thrown at medium format film. I've seen similar things getting done with projection lenses. Maybe this could be an inspiration for one of your future videos :)
Night shots taken just before it’s completed dark gives great deep blue skies, they call it something but I can’t remember the term, magic hour or something I think. I used to be obsessed with photography and even built a fisheye lens with a load of lenses a local photo shop gave me, used plastersene or however you spell it to fix the lenses in an old lens case. Never let your passion die, mine died for photography it is truly alive in binaural audio, I now manufacture binaural microphones 👍
It is called « L'heure bleu » [blue hour]. Of course there are two: before dawn and after sunset. Today in California: blue hour is 05h58 - 06h33 and 17h42 - 18h17 [35m for both]. In contrast, golden [magic] hour is longer and just after sunrise and just before sunset.
Well, this camera takes a 'tiny bit' bigger photo than a full frame. But imagine if I had used a 35mm film roll, not a 120...the aspect ration would have been 170:24.
Hey this camera look so cool :3 Since couple of month i build my own DSLR 35 mm with waistlevel finder for m39 XD yeah hardest part is i have only 3 time now ;3
I would start with Ricoh imaging. Look for a way to apply...you may have to do a deep dive. And also start with watching the video they put out about the subject. They talk about a lot of the older generation has retired.. and they need young people to pick up and carry the torch so to speak...

maybe...crazy...build a 2nd camera that stacks on the first one, but with ground glass...kens mount slides between camera bodies, with interlocked 'dark slide'...then, V2.0, add focusing to the movable section. v2.2 add tilt to lens mount, v2.3 add shift; -) still all 3d printed, a bit bigger, but infinitely usable, like a real large format camera, but maybe less 'fiddly'...Alles bestens in 2023
Home development a color film is another level congfu. I only do stand development for the black and white film. It's really easy and I don't even care about the temperature. Btw is it possible to do a stand development of color film?
nice video and nice camera, i liked the colors that you used for the camera. the photo is like if you use a anamorphic lens? anyway, you have a new subscriber
Man is starting his own camera company, great work sir! Looking forward to more.
Imagine making this camera in injection molded plastic version, like the compact cameras.
@@zalantoth you can do it
This is what I love about film. It's such a versatile medium that really encourages DIY projects.
Yes, it is indeed very versatile! You can do many many things with especially a 120 film.
Hihetetlen, hogy milyen ambiciózus magyar videósok bújnak meg sokszor a youtube bugyraiban. Hajrá!
Nick carver would love your camera and photo subjects wouldn't he. :)
You.... made this?!?! That's awesome. You have a very bright future on this platform, I'm glad I get to watch from the beginning!
Thank you, it means so much!
Cool Schneider Kreuznach! ❤Next to my hometown.
I hope this is the beginning of something amazing from both a content and gear perspective
add a spirit level on the camera to help with leveling the horizon.
What a design, simple but effective approach. Good luck with the project

@@zalantoth Hey I'm right there in the same situation with you haha
I love your choice of music while developing the film!
It was in breaking bad, the video got copyrighted though, but I don't get any money from it so I don't care.
Such a perfect bathroom sink for developing!

Remekül sikerült a fényképezőgép és a vele készített képek is! Ha jól ismertem fel, akkor Győr volt a helyszín. Csak így tovább!

Saw these a few days ago on reddit. Glad to see it here too!
So sick! when this camera gets its view finder and its gonna be a monster! good job
Just wait until I release the newest version...(thank you though)
That developing montage was honestly amazing, Walter would approve
You built MY dream camera, congrats
Thanks! I got inspired by Nick Carver, I think he managed to get the 6x17 known all over the world.
Very cool. Good luck with your future projects!
Great camera, very interesting ( if you add a small spirit level on top it gets easier to take pictures that are straight )

Great production quality!!!

Absolutely incredible. Great work.
Amazing aspect ratio. Appreciate the effort.

this is Fantastic!!! beautiful work Zalán!
Neato! Only critique would be to turn up the overall volume of the video. Overall the concept is very neat and its cool how customizable it is.
I want to see you engineer this camera to be the best it can this has so much potential and I am in love with it
Good work! Would love to shoot on this thing

Now thats neat :D home made medium format camera :)
So, the distance between the lens and the paper is the same distance at which the lens should stand in relation to the film. Did I get it right?
Yes. This is called flange focal lenght, the distance between the mounting and the film plane.
@@zalantoth Thanks a lot!
Finally we can have xpan at home
Je regarde depuis la france hyper impressionnant et inspirant bravo 👏👏
regardless of initial results, its very promising and this video is well done ^_^
Brother you should try to get a job on the Ricoh/Pentax team that's starting from scratch building 3 new film cameras.
That would actually be amazing, but I don't think they would hire a 17 year old from this far away.
They said that they need young talent... nothing beats a failure but a try...go for it...
Oh, they really said that? Where can I apply, but for real.

Hello! Külön keresőt nem használok, de androidra találtam egy alkalmazást, Magic View finder, tökéletesen lehet használni. A film az C41.

Great project, love the gas station image. Just getting into medium format. Will keep an eye on this project
Thanks! I knew the gas station shot will look cool, it always does.
I have a Nikkor 65mm lens I wonder how that would be.
I mean I can make cone for that lens. It would surely produce some wide photos.

Thanks! Well, yes, except that it isn't streched after taking the photo, because its aspect ration is alread around 1:3
I can always count on camera-foccused channels to make videos that just look. so. good :)
Much to remember , practice many times until you are on auto pilot .
I don't think the link for the Etsy is working.
Thanks for letting me know that! I changed the link, hopefully, it works now.
@@zalantoth thanks!
i would pay $300 for that camera you described any day lol, what a price.
A few weeks...
What lenses do you used?
I used a Schneider Symmar S 150mm f/5.6 LF lens. Since then I made it compatible with many LF lenses.
Make a comsumer model of the variable camera lol
can i get the file please
Cool idea! Hope Kickstarter will work in Hungary! As well as Ukraine, but for this I have less hope
What's the song on the montage scene?
It's from breaking bad. Uh by Fujiya & Miyagi
