I have been making spider bodies out of wine corks. I length or width depending on the size I want and use a Dremel tool to form it. They float and look just like a spider on top of the water. My hook is curved up for less snags and a more surprised fish. I put the cork on from both sides.
It would be helpful if you included showing examples of how you use chamois on flies like the crawfish. You mentioned using chamois for the legs but not the claws. Do you also make claws? I think it would really work well for the purpose.
@@Ivegotbugsflyfishing No need to apologize. I’ve made much worse omissions. I really would appreciate seeing the flies you have made using alternate materials, especially the chamois on crayfish. The few crayfish I’ve tied had feather claws which worked but got shredded after one or two fish.
@@Ivegotbugsflyfishing Great. Thanks! Your DIY convinced me to bite the bullet and get a tying vice. Also have picked up some stuff from Dollar stores and Michael's (Big chain craft store here in Canada. Sadly, not even close to a Hobby Lobby like you guys have) Going for some thread and 2-4lb mono fishing line, to tie with and some chamois' tomorrow. some 1/0 to 3/0 EWG's as well, if I can find them.
I looked through your videos & didn't see it. Have you discussed scud back material? Like the thin strips of plastic. I bought some today and am really wondering where I can find large quantities for cheap.
thanks, enjoy your Knowlege on fly tying
thanks for watching

that sounds cool, I would like to see that pattern.

I apologize for my miswording in the video. I meant to say claws. I use the chamois for the pinchers and body and if I want small legs I will as well.

Have you ever tried using your pasta cutting machine to slice the chamois into thin strips?
I did after you asked, it won't work.
Thanks! How do both the real and fake Chamois hold up?
they both hold up extremely well. The real ones are indestructible, the fake are pretty close to that as well.

Easter egg grass. They make a strong stretchy plastic Easter egg grass in several colors that works great for scud backs.
@Ivegotbugsflyfishing Thank you sir!!!
