4.5 - Love this game! At the same time missing something that would make it a 5. Could be hard to table, lacking variability, a little light, etc.
4.0 - Really great game, almost always keeping, although has meaningful complaints as to what takes away from the experience.
3.5 - Really enjoyed, don't love it, may lose out to better games but the idea of never playing again is a bit sad.
3.0 - A good game, would play and suggest with the right people, if I never played it again wouldn't lose any sleep.
2.5 - A game I'd play again , but will never suggest it myself

Thank you for another great and fair preview. Odalin is my type of game at many levels so I’m backing it all-in. The team behind it seems passionate too which makes me feel good about supporting them. Cheers.
I backed day one, and cancelled on day three. I just have too many campaign games and dungeon crawlers to justify another one. It also didn't seem to be doing enough different to justify backing at this time. Maybe in a few years once I've whittled down my backlog and they do the inevitable reprint.
Agreed, it took me longer to drop it, but I eventually did.

Yeah I was sad to do the same. I backed it, then looked at my collection and realize I'm up to about a dozen campaign dungeon crawler kickstarter games that I've spent $300+ each on, with more still on the way to being delivered. I need to stop backing them every time I see them because I only have time to play them once (not even fully to completion usually) before putting them away to play the next one. And I'll never have time to go back and play them again, so it's a huge investment for a game that'll only hit the table for a few times before it goes into storage.
Having said that, I ended up backing this one at $5 in case I change my mind by the time the pledge manager goes live lol
I am hyped for this. The combo between hero and demon, using unused Demons as enemies, the minituares (especially the djinn, the demon lord and some of hte latest ones), the Diablo vibes that gives absolutley sold it to me.

I’ve been waiting for this review.
I decided to back it. I skipped Tenaras due to the high price and it felt like i needed a lot of the addons to feel like a full game. Im happy with this one to just get the expanded gameplay and stretch pay makes it more palatable. The only dungeon crawler i have is Descent second edition and i barely got it to the table as i didnt care for thr 1 vs many aspect of it and i was always forced to be the one as no one else wanted to learn the rules
Enjoy it 🙂 and not to try to get you to back tanares, But honestly the core box is just fine
Hey Alex I really like the idea of giving a game a prototype rating that is subject to change like a four plus. I think that was a great idea you should continue doing it.
Very nice video, appreciate it. For me it was a big struggle to decide whether to back or not now. On one hand it looks very nice, I dig many aspects of the game, but on the other hand I already backed several big games (including Tanares Ultimate that I just received) to play through (literally hundreds of hours) and there's going to be Lands of Evershade coming at the end of the year, which looks like a must for me. Eventually I hope this gets a reprint a few years down the line with improvements and then I'll probably get it... it pains me but one can buy/back only so many games. PS I almost thought you forgot about this game :P
I agree. If I didn't already have a massive volume of oversized games, I would be excited at Odalin. However, until I play a room stuffed to the gills worth of games already delivered, or massively purge, I just don't want the physical footprint of Odalin even if the game might be something I would want to play. The giant sized production of games used to be an incentive, but I run from it in terror now. Maaaybe I will revisit Odalin on a reprint in 3 years. But even then, I don't need it. Unfortunately, I just need less of it and everything else nowadays. I miss the days of *A* shelf full of games instead of the current era of shelves full of *A* game.

The interruptions make it sound like it's a bit like you have a GM in the dungeon.
Not sure if I'd like that more or less than you. But I'm really into this.
Been on the fence with this the whole campaign. The kicker in the end for me was the lack of a standee version and all their "stretch goals" / marketing during the campaign being all about the miniatures, for me that's incredibly underwhelming, plus knowing Tanares had a standee version is a kicker here.... I don't need another box of plastic as nice as the mechanics look. Act II being also locked behind another box of miniatures is also not for me here in Europe, works out beyond expensive.
The Tanares ultimate standee is the reason we didn't do a standee for Odalin. It was a total loss for us with extremely low adoption. This is why we didn't make a standee version
It’s a real shame, I think more games are coming out in standee versions … checkout blood and all the recent awaken realms games… I understand it’s not as appealing .. I do love minis but I think more people are struggling to store these big games and Odalin for me just seemed to focus on more and more minis.. that put me off and I cancelled my pledge…
I think if the standee version was not sold as an afterthought or ugly child in a corner I think it would gain more traction. Just to say although you deemed tanares standee as a failure I can honestly say it’s a success for me as I wouldn’t have bought the non standee version.
@@cheekymonkat Standee in the blood is also the lowest pledge. I was thinking of doing standess in blood, but the minis are really nice. (meanwhile I am going through painting Tanares). I am not too crazy about the huge minis trend (More paint, more time time, and speedpaints do not work so well in large flat surfaces).
I would have backed standee version, because here price went south heavily... 300€ to get full Story without any bells and whistles is far over my sanity 😅 and then I wasn't convinced by gameplay videos, neither last official one, I couldn't shell out so much money... And then the wait... No, I wouldn't manage it

Thanks for pointing out the "basic actions" on the player boards. I don't recall anyone else pointing that out and must have glossed over it when skimming the alpha rulebook. I wondered if you'd always need a healer type character to mitigate your chaos/corruption, but it appears your basic actions may help if you were playing 2 characters and neither was a healer.
As for true solo, I don't think this could be a tactical dungeon crawler, where positioning on the board matters to give flanking, and have it balanced for true solo without major rule updates/modifications. So, playing 2-4 characters is fine for me as a solo player. Did it with a few other other games, including Gloomhaven, which got easier as I got more familiar with each character's ability cards.
I'm really looking forward to the tactical, narrative, dungeon crawler that intermingles the RPG elements during your dungeon dive. Some of the other games that have very distinct and separate story time vs dungeon time actually takes me out of being fully immersed. So, I'm interested to see if how they structured this one will keep me entertained and immersed.
Backed day 1. Cancelled at the 48hr less mark. No videos I’ve seen have sold me on it and they added the rulebook with not enough time for me to actually put the time into reading it before it’s done. Don’t think I’ll miss it.

Which game did you have the most fun with playing (albeit a prototype)?
Grimcoven, Blood or Odalin?
Something tells me Blood as Boss Fighters tend to be more interestning to do compared to trash mob cleaning service games (non-boss fighters), Grimcoven didnt look great at all and Odalin may be a little bit too conservative?
My problem with Blood was that there is a high chance of high downtime for players being late in turn order because some heroes can play 2+ cards during your turn making this more of a 2 player game than a 3+ player game.
I'm currently backing Odalin, but simply because of the card play and demon transformation that reminds me a bit of Street Masters with the ultimates.
PS. Is the dungeons in Odalin random generated through cards like Bardsung and Shadows of Brimstone or pre-decided out of a book?
Odalin easily. All 3 had good and bad, but Odalin was the one I can most see myself coming back to again and again.
Partly randomly generated, I believe. Bit like a Diablo dungeon.

For co-op, just play Tanares, no point learning the arena game? Does Arena help learn Tanares?

@@Anton_Palych just look for some reviews, compare it with odalin. You will see the differences and why middara has a whole another level of freedom. Im sure Odalin is also good but i would still go with middara each time

On a different note, am I just crazy or do I recall hearing that there was going to be a dungeon crawler based on the Diablo IP? I’d be all in for that. I would rather sit on my money and wait for that if it was for sure coming. Anyone know where I may have gotten that from?
Yes there is a diablo table top game coming out. Not much info yet.

The game would he more appealing if the minis were replaced by those tokens for characters 😅 it looks so much cleaner than a bunch of bulky grey minis. Plus, think of all the space it would save.
