Union Pacific Railroad Devastated In California - Hurricane Hilary

Miles of the Union Pacific Railroad were destroyed by a huge flash flood out by Palm Desert and Palm Springs due to Hurricane Hilary. It will be sometime before the Yuma Subdivision will be up and running once again as several miles of track are covered in mud and Debre. I guess this is what happens when you build a railroad in a dry river bed. Sometime that river comes back to life in a BIG way!

Reminds me of historical photos when the Colorado poured into what is today the Salton Sea, and the water overflowed the SP tracks in the process.

Isn't it amazing that the UP will try and operate trains in weather like this and end up having destruction like that happen. 😅

Well it'll bring new meaning to one of my acronyms for that railroad, Unlimited Parking 🤪 but it looks like at least there were no trains and therefore crews caught up in that mess
