Glad you enjoyed it and I had a lot of fun flying the Mini 3 to make this video. I'll have a lot more drone content posting soon so be sure to stay tuned to the channel. Rick
3:20 I wonder if that person in the kayak is catching any fish. This footage looks fantastic for such an inexpensive drone. Very impressive for straight out of camera. Did you shoot in 30 fps and then upscale to 60fps in your final video? The specs say it goes up to 30fps in HDR video mode. Just curious. It blows my Mavic Air 2 away. Maybe it's the HDR technology? I'm saving my $$ to upgrade to a new drone soon. I'm considering the Mavic 3 Classic but I don't see anything in the specs about the HDR video. Hmmm. Is that because it's a superior camera?
Thanks for the kind words and I'm just doing this as a fun side gig for now and love technology. Maybe when I retire I'll look into doing some voice-over work :)
Torn between getting the pro or the new standard with the RC controller. Not rich, but my budget can do the Mini 3 Pro. I wish someone would do a video on using the maps on the RC controller. On my Evo1 you can see the blue line flight path as well a the red line showing the direct line back to home. These lines are important on the map when I get disorientated. Also showing how to load the maps on from your pc or using a hot spot on your cell phone. Thanks Rick for all you do.
Chas, if you have the budget, I'd go for the Mini 3 Pro for the 4K 60 and the obstacle avoidance alone. The map function is the same on both of them so no difference there. I'll work up a clip for the channel that goes into more detail soon.
I totally agree and everyone I've taken out for their first flight can't believe how easy the Mini 3 is to fly. They immediately ask me about pricing and where they can buy one. It's a whole new experience for people to see the world from above.
Thanks for the post and I'm the same way with new tech, but there's always something new around the corner. The thing I go back to is that the Mini 3 Pro is a near perfect quad and I'm not sure what DJI could add to a Mini 4 that would be worth waiting for. I'd say grab the Mini 3 Pro and start flying and you can always upgrade later (and sell the Mini 3 Pro) if the Mini 4 ever releases and has some amazing feature you need.
You're close and flying over the bat and the marshes is one of my favorite spots. I stay up pretty high so I don't disturb the wildlife and I'm not sure if you caught the group of egrets on the island when I flew over. They didn't even blink because the Mini 3 is so quiet.
Rick, that was some beautiful footage and excellent pilotage. I've never been to New Jersey. I've always imagined it as being a nasty, dingy state with malcontent people. LOL! Well, what do you know, it's beautiful! I have the original mini. It sounds like an angry hive of bees, not very stealthy. How does the mini 3 compare?
Hey. You should go to the Wallisch Homestead in West Milford,NJ. They have some awesome places to fly legally. I plan on going next week. Anyways, I enjoyed the video. Thanks for the content and hard work.
Cliff, that's one of my favorite spots to fly and have been going there since I was a kit. Great crabbing spot and it turns a golden orange color at sunset because there's nothing blocking that low setting sun across the marsh. Stay tuned for more content on the Mini 3 this week. Rick
Hey Rick, Does the DJI Mini 3 have a fan at the bottom of it? I’ve heard but have not confirmed that the DJI Mini 3 Pro needed to be moving or it would over heat. This was why I wasn’t too interested in going to the Mini 3. I have the Mini SE which doesn’t have a fan installed and can hover for some time without any notable issue. My concern about the fan is eventually with all mechanical systems the fan will fail and thus your left with an over heating drone.
Hi, great footage. Just started with a mini 3, what settings are you using to capture your visuals please. My first upload looks nowhere as clear as this does. Thanks
Thanks for the post and I shot these at 4K.30fps and rendered it at the same level. I also try and shoot at "golden" hour to have the sun highlight some of the details. I hope you're having fun with the Mini 3 and getting a lot of flight time. Rick
Thank you so much 😀 I love flying and we have some really cool spots here in NJ to get a drone over. I'll have a few more Mini 3 clips this week so be sure to stay tuned.
Thanks for the post and that location is one of my favorites and I was just lucky to catch it at sunset during the golden hour where that entire landscape turns orange. Very cool spot to fly. I'm pretty sure you can post directly to social media from the controller and if not it has quick Wifi transfer directly to your phone for posting. I'll check it and try to give you a few more details.
Thanks for the post and I had a strobe on the drone for visibility and kept it within 2500 feet of me for these flights. Even though I was flying low and in remote areas I always keep it close enough to see. I also try to find positions in the center of the flight that I can move between for the longer flight.
@@Dronevalley Thanks for that reply Rik, but in parts of the video recording it seems to me that drone of this size would not be seen with naked eye or even strobe at distance flown. I'm a registered UK CAA Pilot... Do drone laws actually stand if we need to fly a bit further or use a drone such as Mavic Air 2?
@@waddac2 Thanks for the reply but I had it in VLOS for all of the flights and always do my best to be sure I can see the drone. I use a small strobe with the Mini series of drones that does put it over the 250g limit but have them registered. The VLOS rule in the States is a little gray as to whether you need to actually be able to see the drone or just the sky around the drone when flying so you can see other aircraft in the area. I always take the conservative approach to keep an eye on the drone.
@@Dronevalley Thanks again for that reply. Seems world wide drone laws are different, which is confusing at best of times. I love the videos you do, so hope to see more soon.
John, I'd have to test it but they both use I2 so there's a good chance that if they aren't ready yet, they will be soon with a firmware update to the controller. I'll see if I can test it this week. Rick
Footage is missing detail and looks kind of bad image quality. What kind of export setting did you use? Or this is the best Mini 3 can do? I'm planning to get one, but i need a crisp footage. Let me know! :)
Thanks for the post but this was captured, rendered and uploaded in 4K 30fps and I think it looks amazing. You have to remember that TH-cam compresses the content so that affects it a little. The Mini 3 only provides 4K@30 but it's an amazing drone that stabilizes the footage and provides incredibly crisp images as well. DJI offers drones with higher resolutions (Mini 4 Pro, Mavic 3) but they are more expensive. In my opinion, the Mini 3 provides the perfect balance between price, features and quality and will do a great job for you. If you need professional quality, step up to the Mini 4 Pro or the Mavic 3.
My bad, it was shot at 4K/30fps. I was testing two drones that day and misspoke about the specs of the sample footage. It looks even more amazing when you consider the lower frame rate. Thanks for the post.
Hi I hope you can help or make people aware I got a Mini 3 at Christmas I have not really flown it yet but I took it 3 ft up and believe I had an issue with my IMU and I broke 2 props on my rear starboard arm. I replaced the Props and when I decided to order replacements I went for Master Air Screw as they are not as brittle material. When I looked at the motors on the Mini 3 they are different to the Mini 3 Pro I believe as the screws supplied are smaller and dont fit. I contacted some one who had a mini 3 Pro who he photographed his motors and like wise I did the same and I believe the Mini 3 has Mini 2 Motors on it. I have fitted the Master Air Screw Props with the same Screws that came in the Fly More Pack and they are Secure and I have hovered the drone in my living room and all is fine. If you remember the Mavic Mini and the Mini 2 had different props ie one had a grey stripe and one an orange but the graphics on the Mini 3 and Mini3 Pro are the same. question being should I use these props or not and also if you go on Amazon and put Mini 3 in you get a moajority that put Mini 3 Pro products up. As I suscribe to various channels no body has mentioned this difference in the motors so is it worth informing people about another hidden difference ?
Thanks for the post and all of the DJI Mini series are slightly different and few parts can be swapped between them. There are a lot of sellers on eBay and Amazon that list parts (like props) that they claim work on various drones but they're wrong. It's super important that you only use the accessories that fit your drone and because something "looks" like it might work, doesn't mean it will. The ESC's on the drones are calibrated for specific props and swapping the wrong ones onto the drone can cause you a lot of issues. As for the IMU, if it had issues it would have reported that before takeoff during its initial power-on testing. Do yourself (and your drone) a favor and be sure the parts you're using are made for that air-frame. Mavic Mini, Mini 2, Mini SE, Mini 3 Pro and Mini 3 are all very specialized quads and DJI has changed aspects of their design in each release to make them more efficient and fly better.
Not yet, but I'm still looking. We don't really have a lot of sightings in NJ for Bigfoot, but the Jersey Devil is a local legend and those Pine Barrens in the video clip is where he is supposed to wander. I always try and get out of those woods before dark, just to be safe :)
I think it looks great and you have to remember that it's only 4K/30fps. TH-cam also reduces that a little with compression, which pixelates the video somewhat. Overall I think the video is pretty amazing for the price of the drone.
Everyone talking about how its an entry level drone, while ive been building racing drones for a decade now and looking to buy this one because of how expensive it is for me 😂
Thanks for the post and it's more of a mid-level drone. The key thing to remember is that it's a RTF (ready to fly) kit that you can pop out of the box and start flying. The control automatically links to the drone and it has a ton of automated features like the stabilized gimbal for smooth footage, low battery return to home and a variety of automatic flight patterns. DJI makes more expensive drones, but the Mini 3 is a great one to get started at a good price for the features.
LOL, it's a Jersey thing...we need to use our hands to help amplify our talking. It happens naturally and if I couldn't move them, I'm not sure I could talk. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the footage. I'll have more Mini 3 and Air 3 content this week. Rick
Stunning visuals from the Mini 3! Impressive performance for an entry-level drone!
Nice smooth flying, Rick! The bridge at golden hour was the money shot!
Awesome scenery Rick. A fatnastic drone it is, for sure.
Tremendous. Can see there's wind affecting the water but footage is stable. Nice quality picture too. Good straight-forward video, no wittering 😉

It doesn't look so bothered with the wind with a kind of stabilization like that! I think DJI did pretty amazing on the Mini 3!
That was awesome Rick! Really love the bridge shots.
Your voice is like the voice from every corporate video I've ever seen! I hope you're selling that voice, because you could make some dollars!
