Italian F-35B fighter jets operate from the ITS Cavour carrier in the Gulf of Taranto

  • The Italian navy (Marina Militare) has received today the first F-35B fighter being deployed on board the Cavour aircraft carrie.
    Gulf of Taranto, Ionian Sea. Today, 30 July, The first Italian Navy F-35B has landed for the first time on board the Cavour aircraft carrier, after the test and certification activity carried out with US aircraft during the “Ready for Operations” (RFO) .The Navy expects to obtain the initial operational capacity (IOC) by 2024 and, subsequently, the Final Operational Capability - FOC, after the delivery of the last F-35B to the Navy.

      We also have the a version, but the airforce has it. All in all we should have around 100 fifth generation aircrafts by the end of the decade (all being various versions of the f35).

    If only we kept the harriers to really help bulk out the UK carriers. Nice Italy 👏🏼

      Yep. The Harrier GR9 had excelling Avionics and radar and was still a potent Ground attack aircraft.

      @@met71metaldetector55 the AV8 variants are a joint British /American aircraft developed between BAE and McDonnell Douglas, the British called them GR7/9

      Sono otto anni che abbiamo gli F35.
      Quelli della Marina, gli F35C sono i più complessi da produrre e servire. Serve maggiori capacità tecniche e logistiche per poter schierare aerei da portaerei che in genere sono più robusti e potenti delle controparti terrestri.

      il primo esemplare e stato consegnato all'aereonautica militare nel 2015. ad oggi gli f35a in servizio dovrebbero essere 26 o 30. mentre gli f35b dovrebbero essere 6 o 8 al momento. la cosegna di tutti gli esemplari ordinati e prevista per il 2027.

    Maybe a small improvement of the Harrier but at what cost, waste and headacke? Beside STOVL carriers are not real carriers, they are more laike LHD. They can just give CAS but not Air Superiority. For that you need a CATOBAR carrier. Italy should join France with the PANG.

    Here they are the American F 35 aircraft, which are very expensive and have major problems with spare parts and maintenance. At the moment they remain on the ground for 45% of their time in use to keep the aircraft in safe flight conditions in the event of war. They are screwed.
