@@godfearingheathen Hi G! Your installer can test your automotive socket to determine which modes does it have power and if there are any gaps in between modes. Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun Thanks for that. That is probably the problem. Hi love your videos I just got mines today question do you think this will fit a 2021 traverse for the back up camera or you think I will need the 33 feet that they sell on Amazon?
Thanks Lobo! Ah yes so far I have not had the need to use extension cables on the installs I done, that being said I only done cars, SUV's and Vans (I think the trick to it is that I go the shortest route as far as routing the cables go, both to reduce labor time and also to minimize the need for an extension). I actually always end with quite a bit of extra cable that I to hide LOL but I would suppose that an extension would be needed for Large trucks and other extra long vehicles (very likely that one won't be needed for the Traverse). Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hi sokan1947! I think the best dash cam depends on what you are looking for in a dash cam. I run different ones on my cars so what I usually tell people looking for the right dash cam for them is to start by picking the style of dash cam (Mirror or classic stick). Then how many cameras does it need to have (1, 2 or 3). Now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Then consider any special features you are looking for such as 360° video, Side Camera, Wi-Fi, Parking monitor without hardwire, cloud support, High Frame Rate. Finally you would want to compare video quality (I have several dashcam reviews on my channel under the playlist "dashcams" if you like to compare). I just began working on a video to compare my top picks for different categories, stay tuned, Cheers!
Hi Enfield! I personally prefer the inside, install inside is easier but I do know some people do prefer the outside, so it seems to be a personal preference..

Hi Ernie! I would ask your installer to confirm if there will be any issues if the component is removed (most newer car will throw a code or other systems could be affected if that sensor is shared with another function. Cheers!
At the end of the rear camera install there is a red wire that shows up attached to the black wire that you are pulling through the grommet hole. What is this wire for?
Hi Thomas! That enables the park assist function on some dash cams. Here is my video showing how I connect that wire th-cam.com/video/LHGxwulIPes/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Hi L! That will depend on you as far as what view you are looking for, some people are ok with a low view (or actually look for a low view) and some people prefer a higher view. Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun lol, thanks for taking time out of your day to get back to me but it is not up to its up my car lol I just wanted to if a rear view mirror camera will work in a bumper of a car because most of videos I have seen on youtube are of suvs, minivans, trucks etc

Hi MyNicePC! good question man, typically this is negligible on dash cams as far as performance since the USB connector is normally used for power delivery instead of data (and the few cases where is used for video, the interface is never close to being maxed out as dash cams use AHD instead of normal data transfer protocols) Even for cycling (disconnecting and connecting) Mini USB is rated at minimum of 5K cycles, USB C is rated at a minimum of 10K cycles which we never come close to reaching as normally the dash cam is not being connected and disconnected like a cell phone would for example, hope this makes sense bud!
@@AlexAutoFun Absolutely man!. But since the cables are almost never disconnected what about performance? I am leaning towards USB type-C just because Most devices now a days are at least recording at 20fps. Don't know if mini USB will do very good in the long haul since the cables are kinda old for today's high demanding resolutions... I am trying to buy something that will last at 4 years. Before I get a new car.
@@TigerOscar78 Remember dash cams use AHD (Analog High Definition) to send the video signal, AHD only requires 2 wires to do so (the USB cable is not used as a normal USB cable using the USB protocol, dash cams only use 2 wires of the USB cable to send AHD, think of the old school connection to our VCRs, how it was coaxial cable to send video) This is the reason why USB C does not yield better performance on dash cams yet. AHD still using just 2 wires regardless of the USB cable being used. However it is possible in the future we will see a new standard come out for Dash Cams once the limits of AHD are reached (from what I'm hearing in the industry, we actually may go wireless all together!) hope this helps bud!
Is there already a tripple dash camera that shows front, rear, sideways, and cabin and the one which has night vision that the cabin can be seen too? 360 degree with such capability?

@@AlexAutoFun Great, because we travel on dirt roads and our OEM outside cameras get caked in dirt/dust. Another question: Would pretty much any quality 4K hard wire kit work for this? However if you still want to flip the image some dash cams do let you disable that function. Hope this helps, Cheers!

I would have the installer check the connections, something may not be plugged in all the way, the other possibility is that the cable was damaged during the installation or the cable arrived defective (if the dash cam system was fully tested before installation we can eliminate this last one) Hope this helps and please let us know what they find. Cheers!
Awesome thank you so much. And this video will surely help . Cheers 🍻
@@LoboxSicario You're welcome!
Hi thank you for getting back to me
Hi Enfield, you're welcome bud!
Thank you Alex!
You're welcome GuvenDMR! 😃
I'm going with the dash cam power from the OBD2 plug to avoid the wiring harness-to-fuse panel hassle. You don't mention that possibility here but you did on another OBD-related video. Maybe link to that one?
Hi Jay! Ah yes here is my video for the OBD2 adapter th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Awesome videos.
Thank you Randy!
Could you give some comparison between the benefits of different camera positions.. I mean when using them which feels better?
Hi Janne! ah is like you knew what I was working on! lol I'm actually working on a video showing the differences and while part of it just personal preference, there are some cases where it has to be mounted in specific locations (such as any regulation on your state regarding placement of the camera or for example if your car has window tint or not can affect the decision on mounting location etc.)..
@@AlexAutoFun Cool, am looking forward to hear your thoughts. I already ordered a hudway device and will add new mirror dash also based on your reviews.. funny you mention regulations... just having some legal problems because I moved to Germany and got stopped by the police. My Camaro is 50 years old and passes the inspection in Finland, but the German system is different. Now I am in a situation I have a foreign, though EU car sometimes in Germany and the local police might fine me for tax evasion next time they stop me here.. trying to find ways to solve it, but while this situatlion is pending my motivation on the project is not too high.. won't drive my car here now anyways.. Modifying car can sometimes be quite hard and there might be other surprices on your way than just rust 😀
@@jannekallio5047 OH wow! I feel the same here in California with all the restrictions we have. But that is awesome how you still manage to drive a classic car like your Camaro, they really need to make exceptions for this class of cars in my opinion, is not like there is tons of them either you know! lol
can you also make a video on how to install side mirror cam thx.
Hi Maxmil! Ah yes I have two videos for that th-cam.com/video/8i_CVpPj3Dg/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/b2JXMQyU-24/w-d-xo.html use the chapter bookmarks to forward to the install portion if you don't need to see the review portion of the video. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hi Alex is this dash cam works just the front camera?
Hi Abraham! This style of mirror dash cams typically support 2 or 3 cameras. Here is one that has front and rear cameras th-cam.com/video/7UbJk32_k5Y/w-d-xo.html and here is one that has front, rear and cabin th-cam.com/video/5mY2Jx-zqvY/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hi Your thoughts on the FIT CAM X Dash Cam ? Thanks Kumar
Hi sokan1947! Ah yes I have reviewed both their stealth dash cam and their mirror dash cam here are those videos if you want to compare them th-cam.com/video/TvKRKYA7cgQ/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/ZUUZIcKD_mg/w-d-xo.html And I have more dash cam reviews on my channel in the playlist "Dash Cams Reviews" if you like to compare them. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hi, Whats the recommended Dash Cam for a BMW X1 2021 MODEL .. Thanks Kumar
Hi sokan1947!
Super good
Thanks Bud!
Do you think the rear camera is best inside or out on a vauxhall mokka 🤔
Hi Enfield! I personally prefer the inside, install inside is easier but I do know some people do prefer the outside, so it seems to be a personal preference..
Hi there, I gotta ask if you can recommend a really good or best rear view mirror style dash cam that does not have all those cables coming from the top.
Hi David! yes here you go th-cam.com/video/Yk2EEacXZ7g/w-d-xo.html and this one th-cam.com/video/7n4J8Bz6tLM/w-d-xo.html (however the S50 is not longer available, crossing my fingers it will return) and I have more dash cams with hidden cables coming up on the channel, stay tuned, Cheers!
Well like to know was trying to find how can I make the light go with the beat
Hi Ramon! Ah yes you can see how to set the RGB kit to respond to sound on my full review here th-cam.com/video/vWKoJN38-Ro/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
does the strap on dashcam void warranty by installing it yourself?
Hi sinn_! This would depend on the Brand of dash cam your are using, most are meant for DYI install but I always recommend professional installation (specially if the dash cam you got requires it for warranty purposes, rare but there are some out there) Hope this helps, Cheers!
I’m trying to install a direct mount for my wolfbox but my vehicle has a high beam assist looking camera connected to the mirror. Will disconnecting the mirror give me problem? I don’t really use the high beam assist anyways
I have a 2010 Chrysler 300 with the plates in the rear bumper would the rear view camera be too low there?
LOL! Well I would say that you may be limited by your installer as far as location placement. Some installers are more experienced that others and can place the camera very high or very low as requested by the customer. And here video from a bumper height mounted camera th-cam.com/video/PKAKwdAHCeA/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun Wish I could buy you a beer, I watched the link that you provided and it was exactly what I was looking and I can live with that level thanks again

Hi ELTAL FRECO! There are several types, here is the video where I explain them and links to them are in the video description th-cam.com/video/TtjZ7rC_ncY/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hi Alex, have you seen any difference in terms of performance and longevity for rear mirrors and cameras that use mini USB Vs USB type-C?
I am leaning towards USB type-C just because
Most devices now a days are at least recording at 20fps.
There are so many dash cameras nowdays, what is the best camera? ?
Is there already a tripple dash camera that shows front, rear, sideways, and cabin and the one which has night vision that the cabin can be seen too? 360 degree with such capability?
What is extra Red cable from the reverse Cam
Hi justice for all! on some dash cams it enables the optional park assist. Here is how I connect that wire to enable that feature th-cam.com/video/LHGxwulIPes/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun thank you so much, that video was very helpful, Cheers.

If I keep my glass clean, does inside still provide a clear picture?
Hi FollowHim! Yeah in my opinion it does, you can see how it looks if you take a look at my mirror dash cam reviews on my channel under the playlist "Dash cams" I clean both windows right before I film. Hope this helps, cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun Great, because we travel on dirt roads and our OEM outside cameras get caked in dirt/dust. Another question: Would pretty much any quality 4K hard wire kit work for this? I see this brand's hard wire kit is poorly rated. Is there any way to make the backup camera turn on when we put the car into reverse, or do we always have to puts the rear camera button? Is this still your best tested camera? If not, what do you recommend?
Hi FollowHim! I usually recommend sticking with the matching hard wire kit, however I have used other kits on my dash cams in the past, here is a video where I explain how to tell if the kit will have enough power for it th-cam.com/video/Yky9_tTvwMc/w-d-xo.html and issues that may come up when using a different kit. For the back up camera yes it can be automated here is how the connection is made th-cam.com/video/LHGxwulIPes/w-d-xo.html Finally yes you can find my top dash cam choices in the video description, hope this helps bud!
Why is it rear view is inverted from left to right
Hi Danilo! the mirror dash cam will show a mirrored view like a regular mirror does which includes flipped letters like a normal mirror creates (some emergency vehicles have mirrored text on them so it can be read correctly when seen thru a mirror, if the image is not mirrored that text won't be readable). However if you still want to flip the image some dash cams do let you disable that function. Hope this helps, Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun but the view is left is in the right that’s why it hard I thought someone is overtaking me from the right but it is from my left side
@@daniloconde1428 Hi Danilo! ah that is a different option, the one I mentioned earlier is called "Mirrored View" but flipping the view from left to right is different, it's called Horizontal flip, it can be turned on and off on most dash cams. Hope this helps, Cheers!
