We loved that area at the top with the rocks - appropriately called "Rocky Mountain" area - lol - but that's PA for ya! When we did the section, it was SUPER buggy and hot - you picked a perfect time of the year to tackle that section! Micheaux is beautiful!
When you resume your hike in the next section , you will have to do some research of the “white witch of south mountain” . She is known to appear at that pond where you cut your hike short.
My wife and I do quite a bit of camping in the state forests. Only did a couple times in Michaux state forest. We do a lot in Forbes state forest since it is local to us. Our favorite state forest to camp in is Bald Eagle state forest. We spend at least a week up there every year. Love the free campsites. We have a few favorites there. It's nice camping in the forest without noisy campers nearby. Definitely way more peaceful than camping in campgrounds. And the permit process is so easy. It really makes for a great experience in the wilderness.
Thanks for doing that trail, I've been wanting to do that one. And that one is close to the top of my list. I was on the pole steeple trail the other day and the Steven Harris memorial is cleaned up. The hair ties are gone and there is a red ♥️ wooden heart and blue fish aquarium rocks,. It looks nice. I think the socks you have are ankle support socks, I need. To get some of. Those too. I
Fantastic as usual. The views were lovely but to me it’s the trees that I love. You had a wonderful carpet of leaves to walk on that sounded great. Thanks so much for taking me along, please stay safe and take care
Thanks for the hike Cliff. I got worn out just thinking you were going to run out of daylight. Glad you were wise enough to cut it short as it was 4PM when you got to Nahomi. Always good to have a plan then smart enough to change that plan as needed.
A lovely trip WW! I enjoyed watching from my sofa on this warmer December day. Kind Thanks for taking us along! A Fine Holiday to You and your Family! DaveyJO
Hi Cliff, I think maybe find out what the cathedral in the woods was and where to find it as I didn't notice anything that could be it while you were walking. A pretty hike but a tiring one but at least the uphill sections were relatively early on. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖
Cliff, if you had stayed on the AT for about another 200 yds. you would have came to the beginning of the racoon run trail. Also you walked right past a sign and blue blaze for the trail in that little parking area before you turned to go down the road.
I may be confused but I think raccoon run trail used to be the A.T. in that section and there was a raccoon run shelter there. Please someone verify that ✌️
Online research reveals it's not an actual building. Starting around 1917, two of the families camping in Caledonia held Sunday school for their, and the children of other families, while camping there. Since 1955, the Franklin County Sunday School Association has kept the tradition alive. It runs every Sunday from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.
I think my brains even tired lol that cracked me up.
That was a heck of a walk you did there sir
The AT followed Raccoon Run Trail until the 1980s. Michaux campsite 15 was the site of the former Raccoon Run Shelters.

If that was me,they would still be looking for me,lol! Thanks.
Thanks for the hike
Camped as a kid with Boy Scouts at Raccoon Run Shelter back when it was a part of the Appalachian Trail back in late 1981

Love your content, man!
Wish you could have found cathedral in the pines. Thank you for sharing your walk!
Same here, but I didn't see anything.

I didn't see anything that looked like a cathedral, not sure what it was supposed to be.

ok, I checked my other map and it does show that, but the map I had along that day didn't show that info.
Was there a path to drive a vehicle onto site 15 if you recall? Looks like a good site I might like to try, but I'd like to camp in my van onsite.

When do you have time to teach school
