Being an official video from a large retailer I was expecting a generic corporate script that told me nothing new. This dude clearly has experience and shared that as well as injecting some character 👍🏼 keep it up.
My ME Lhotse is about 8 or 9 years old and still going strong, one of the best bits of kit I've ever had.
Thanks for a great comparison video. Would be great to see how the Artilect Formation jacket stacks up against these. I've heard quite a bit about that jacket and its additional stretch capabilities.
Very impressed with the Rab Kangri (and it has pit zips!)
Outsatanding comparison on some of the best waterproof jackets on the market. I have saved this video for reference as it was that good for information... 👍👍👍
Kindest regards.
Yes my go to jacket is my Mountain Equipment Lhotsi. The Gore Tex -Pro is superb. and ergonomically the best jacket I've used for climbing.
Awesome cheers, I do like these updates
Can you recommend a jacket for hikes/climbing in the £100-£170 range?
Seen the like of Montane Spirit jacket, Rab Downpour plus 2.0 etc. probably would get into climbing at some stage, but need a jacket to do until I save for a proper one like the Patagonia Triolet etc.
Looking Slim!!! Great work, Tom 💪
Excellent. Thanks Cotswold!
What a superb review. What shop do you work at?
Would be helpful to demonstrate the features as you wear it rather than on the hangar.
Need to see how bulky is the hood, ease of adjustment. Ease of zipping up/down the side pockets - some make them very awkward, need to have very flexible wrists.
Beta LT not available at your link. Anything similar, meaning breathable with side and/or mor vents cause I want to be using it in hot weather.
It’s a shame the North Face ‘Karakoram’ is no longer made. That was an amazing piece of kit, but seems to have fallen victim to North Face’s move towards the fashion & lifestyle market.
Is the Makalu Jacket's hood removeable, or can it be rolled up when not being used? I know some hoods are really annoying when you are wearing a jacket.
Good quick reviews mate. Which would you say is better for hiking in heavy wind and rain out of the makalu and the triolet? Cheers
As all rounder, you should bring Arc'teryx Beta AR wich has goretex Pro, really proven bulletproof one
A question : If I was to buy a bright orange jacket. How do I clean it ?
Nitwax wash may freshen waterproof jackets, but for removing ground in marks at the cuffs and sides of pockets, it does very little to remove marks .
The reason I ask is my old cycling jacket has been on a double wash with nitwax and came out no clearer .
I would love to buy a decent bright jacket that I can wear on and off the bike , ONLY if there was a way of cleaning it
Thank you
Hi. What Makalu is made of? Polyester or Polyamide?
Mountain Equipment every time for me.
I've been wearing their kit throughout European mountains for decades and it's never let me down.
no support for gangsters and thieves, you started what you can't finish - good luck!) with no support))
I think The North Face Pumori jacket is the best. Tsirku if you need more durability.
For me the best one it's Burton AK Gore Tex 2L jacket!
No Mammut Eiger Nordwand Extreme Pro?!
How would you rate Berghaus compared to these?
The Mountain Equipment Makalu jacket is a great tough jacket but what puts me off is the fit. Its to tight round the middle and if you size up the arms are so long you think it's made for a Gorilla .
No Paramo included in top 5? Pahh
very funny, hey brother where are you? bro is hiding.. haha
What do you think of the Janak as a jacket?
Where is the Salewa Company ??
For just going for walks around the forest and maybe shopping lol. What would you suggest for a good gore tex everyday jacket?
Check out the Berghaus Cornice , breathable, windproof , waterproof and has a concealed hood in the collar, great jacket for everyday wear
@@77manic77 thank you. I'll have a look for it now
Fjallraven Mens Kaipak Jacket also looks decent
Get a mountain shirt and and a pullover lightweight smock if its belting down. That combo will last forever and cost less.
Montane???
Damn these are heavy
I,m putting the speed at 75%. As a non native English speaker it,s mutch more understandable😊
These are too expensive for me. I bought an £80 Regatta 'waterproof' jacket that leaks in less than 5 minutes. I'm scared to waste money on scam jackets, but over £200 is too much for me. How come, I had a cheap anorak in my childhood that was 100% waterproof but it seems like you can't get them any more?! Help!
Keela make great waterproofs for 100 to 200. Great jackets too
Hi Can you ship to indonesia Bruhh?
I just went to purchase the Patagonia triolet jacket from your site. It says this product is no longer available 🙁
It's listed on the website today - followed the link in the description.
Costings are?

500 quid for a rainjacket? I vote we stop this nonsense.
At least jackets and coats can possibly last you a lifetime and if you live in a rainy and cold area, then you'd be wearing it for half or most of the year. People pay twice as much for a phone that they change every 1-4 years. They use that everyday, sure. But it makes you think, it's not so bad paying around £500 for a coat or jacket that could possibly last you a lifetime. Yes, there are much cheaper alternatives that are decent. But the same could be said for phones. Decent alternatives that are half the price of flagships. These £500 jackets, you just have to think of them as flagship jackets
For the freezing cold weather, I wear a columbia jacket that I've had for over 6 years and that keeps me nice and warm and the jacket is very thin as well. It's the foil like material, underneath the jacket that keeps me nice and warm. I only paid about £140 for that, down from £180. Now I just need a good waterproof jacket and I think goretex will be the way to go. I've seen a good paragonia one for less than £400. But my maximum budget for a goretex jacket is £300. Something that will keep me dry but also warm as well
I've had my expensive jacket for over 10 year in regular bad weather with no problems and still going. Any other cheaper coats/jackets or fleeces I've had, have warn out after 1-2 seasons.
What your tightness nonsense or your opinion is a sensible one nonsense 😂
@@wcfields547 Ah, thanks William, much obliged for your fascinating and, as your emoticon suggests, also irresistibly hilarious insight. Your mastery of the English language immediately swayed me into ordering a very expensive jacket. I suspect you write poetry and build rockets in your spare time?
Are Keela still in business? I bought one of their jackets years ago and it was great (not Gore tex but just as waterproof).
Need to state rrp
The cheapest jacket here is £270, I just dont have that kinda money.
My go to when I travel to the UK in winter, or any other time I know that it is going to rain a lot but not be too cold, is an Arcteryx Alpha SV (color is Phenom). I have it in large and it is not quite roomy enough for a fleece and puffy. For colder wet conditions (freezing rain, winter near waterfalls etc) I have a Beta SV in XL (Black) that gives me more room to layer.
Patagonia lost me with all their activism, and Rab is difficult to find west of the Atlantic. Mammut and Norrona make some great stuff though.
5:21 isn’t Patagonia. 🤦🏽♂️
What are you on about?
I was unable to make out a single jacket name fully. Spoken so fast, slurred & indistinct.
Why no mention of pricings?
Or Women's?
😮 Prices are crazy 👎
He only selling his products in accordance with commission paid by manufacturer
£500 for any jacket is rediculous. Keela can be had for half that and they're litterly civilianised military kit! Yes, they're heavier but just substitute something.
No Paramo, but that's because Cotswold don't sell Paramo, right..
Do your research folks.
I can't get on with Paramo, far too hot and heavy for me, although I've not tried one for a decade so it may have improved in that time!
£500 Smackeroonies for a rain jacket.... You're avin a Turkish ain't yah??
Gore tex doesn't work. It's not true to say it'breathable'. Might as well wear a plastic bag. Expected more informed analysis from an 'expert'. Corporate marketing dressed up as expert opinion.
You're talking utter rubbish. I've worn Goretex in all sorts of conditions and it clearly does 'work', the real question is do you know how to use it effectively?
I could tell that it was a store in the UK based on the thumbnail. Why are Brits so averse to color?
Bit more reserved I think . I like the yellow one (on the hill in the video) but no way I spend money on it and my fashion sense is quite bold in some UK terms .
So no real testing !! Cotswold are no longer as good as when Tony and Charles owned them
What makes this guy an expert? Fuck the jackets I want to know what credentials this guy has to be recommending stuff
