She's the recipient of 'brushing'... the seller sends the victim absolute utter crap no one would actually buy meanwhile they're using that 'confirmed purchase' to review a completely different, far more expensive item with five stars.
Amazon does nothing against this nor will they because it drives traffic on the product that is being brushed and that benefits Amazon.

How is it that a news outlet can do a story on this VERY WELL KNOWN operation known as "Brushing" and not one of them mentions it or explains it? This has been happening for years. Amazon knows about it.
Sellers on Amazon make purchases themselves under false accounts and send the item to a random address, they then leave a "verified" 5-star review of their own product. This encourages more sales and increases profits. Amazon repeatedly claims to be combating this, but every single time there's a new story about this practice it's absolutely obvious they have no intention of doing anything to stop it.
You cannot trust the reviews on Amazon.
She could sue Amazon for harassment. She has tried everything to rectify this and it wasn't until the media started asking that they suddenly found the will to allegedly fix it.

This is not accidental. It's a scam the sending company uses to increase their ratings. It does not affect the person receiving them except for any hassle.
The woman has no obligation to try to return them. As she was already told from Amazon, "Just keep them". Now she can do whatever she wants with them, but at a minimum, find a charity that wants them, or give them to the thrift store.
Another possible use is a quilting club. They'll cut the sheets into squares and have a nice supply.

The companies buy their products themselves and ship the products to random addresses to boost their sales numbers and to accumulate 5 star reviews which eventually leads to more genuine sales from customers due to an inflated trust factor. This is the biggest flaw in Amazon. You can never tell if sale numbers and reviews are real or not and Amazon doesn’t care to stop it since their still making a percentage off of each sale.

A scam is when someone is being swindled out of their money or some other possession. This is not a scam. It's questionable, but not illegal. This woman's address likely wasn't stolen; phone books still exist and you can know a person's address just by walking or driving down their street and seeing the house numbers. There is no fraud. Also, the schemer didn't buy items in the recipient's name using the recipient's Amazon account. They used their own account and put the recipient's name as an optional delivery address (you can have multiple delivery addresses on your Amazon account; you just choose the one you want your order delivered to and Amazon will send it to that address).
The item's seller gets paid and the buyer gets to write product reviews for the items they purchased. It is legal to write product reviews for money, and I already explained how easy it is to get someone's address without stealing their personal information and how Amazon allows customers to add additional delivery addresses in their account. This lady was inconvenienced at best, but she's not a crime victim.

It is so upsetting to be mourning someone's loss and having to cancel their account, but to have that request ignored and to receive packages for that person is hurtful. I told the manager that it seemed to me that they hire "YES" people. They say "yes" to whatever your complaint is just to get you off the phone. It's not "brushing" these aren't orders being placed with Amazon. These are customer returns that the seller has given Amazon this address as the return point for the products they sell (children's bedding). Her taking them to an Amazon return point isn't working because she will eventually receive the same items again.

I paused @1:03 -- it says "Vendor Return". I am a 3rd party seller on Amazon. These are what we call removal orders of customer returns (that were damaged and unsellable), you can have it set to ship the damaged items to an address on a regular schedule. Since many Chinese/overseas sellers don't have a place to send the returns, they use some random address (which in this case is this woman's home), and that's where they get sent. (Full disclosure, I also used to be an amazon Blue Badge employee for a few years (corporate employee, not delivery/FCs)) - this is probably nothing nefarious (such as review brushing), just some Chinese seller that needs a US address to send returns to.

The person that they are addressed to obviously isn’t worried about it because they haven’t bothered to fix their address. So she should be able to keep all of it and sell it. Not 100% profit. If selling on Amazon, ebay, you have sellers fees, also sales tax and your own tax responsibilities.
I'd be more worried about the potential fraud being perpetuated under my name/address. Would be more effort and cost to put up the items for sale than it's worth. It's not like she is receiving High $ items, she is just a random victim of "Brushing" (review fraud).
And think about the shipping fees involved, that is why Amazon doesn't want them returned. It will end up costing consumers more as Amazon raises their prices to pass on these fraud/bogus costs to all customers (Delivery driver labor, Gas, Vehicle maintenance, Customer service dealing with people calling about the bogus packages, etc).

I have a few theories for as to what could be going on
    1. Somewhere in an Amazon warehouse somewhere someone went to fulfill an order and a glitch occurred and the order can't be completed so basically in the system every time the person completes the order the system just reopens the order as if it's a brand new one. Not sure about the address though.
    2. Maybe someone wants to ship a whole bunch of sheets out somewhere until it's some kind of scam thing where they're trying to make it look like someone bought these when in reality nobody actually bought the sheets but they can just claim look we sold 50,000 sheets.
    3. For some reason the buyer just keeps using the same address over and over again and keeps wondering why their sheets haven't shown up and then just keeps buying more That last one only works if the person has dementia as far as can think of but I could be wrong.

Amazon isn't the only one that does "brushing". I had square foil envelopes that had nothing more than a blank mailing label inside come to my house for several weeks from AliExpress. I had never ordered from the seller before, and the return address was in Russia.

I've come across this same issue with eBay. A seller who was very likely overseas sent me the wrong item, I returned the package to what happened to be somebody else's place of business in Brisbane City. Weeks later after bouncing around the country it was sent back to me with a return postage fee.
I had to jump through hoops getting a receipt from Australia post which was not easy as I'd used Apple Pay and the card info was obscured. Thankfully the Australia post worker was able to get me that receipt and I could get my money back from eBay.
Wasn't worth the effort to get my money back, but it's the principle of the thing.

It's extremely simple to fix this. Call amazon and see if they got an account with your email and also an account with your phone number. I had the same issue with random packages and they found someone registered my phone number for an account and put my address on it. They do it for review fraud to show verified purchases.

  • @RoseKindred
    @RoseKindred ปีที่แล้ว +2

It is not a prank, there are different reasons. Such as making the "purchase" seem real so 5 Stars can be left as a review. Establishing a residence. And also, like happened to me, it may be a fake amazon package with real codes, but there may be a code to scan asking for a review. The fake I had was so real, a tracking number, a Amazon SKU to a real item (not the one I got), printed faked outside sealing tape, and even the package was similar to Amazon's but not exact, I could tell because the letters were not the same resolution as all the others in my recycling.
