  • Part Two of the video series in which we explore the history and archeology of the Winfield Mounds, the prehistoric effigy mounds and associated village site, located in the Winfield Mounds Forest Preserve in Winfield, Illinois.
The second episode explores the initial acquisition of the Winfield Mounds land from the Potawatomi tribe, the early transfers of ownership among European settlers, the early raids of the mounds by pot-hunters and amateur archeologists in the 1920s, and then the first formal excavation of the mound site by the University of Chicago in 1931.
Thanks for watching! We hope that you find this interesting and informative!
