Watching someone tow an off-road Viper with a motorbike is why I come to this channel. Well, to be 100% honest, someone towing an off-road Viper with a motorbike and then the Viper rolls forward and tacos the rear-wheel on the bike is really why I come to this channel. A man can dream.

Ironically, a motorcycle is ideal for this pull, because Matt could have placed chocks at the desired stopping location of each front wheel, leaving the middle clear for the motorcycle. A missed opportunity.

I used Send Cut Send for a stainless steel memorial plaque I designed and installed at a super remote 1960s military plane crash site in the Idaho wilderness. Turned out great, and was pretty affordable.

@quillclock I wish I had thought to shoot video of the process. It is neat whenever I see someone post online about finding it. The site is so remote that not many people visit it. Over the years souvenir hunters had taken countless pieces of the plane and the site was becoming more and more forgotten and obfuscated. I wanted to remind people that this was a historic site where two men lost their lives. I'm hoping the site will get a bit more respect in the future.

I had that exact parking brake problem with my converted 2008 Ford E-450 ambulance after taking it to Bonneville. When it did break loose, it actually had ripped the parking brake shoe pads right off the backers. Then they tumbled around inside the drum, getting caught on things until they were mostly worn away. I'm lucky I didn't have a brake fire. You should check out your parking brakes now :)
After some reading online. Most Ford truck owners of that generation recommend NOT to leave the parking brake on for extended periods of time. News to me. Thanks Ford.
They usually don't work at all. Maybe I need to hose mine down with saltwater.
You shouldn't leave the parking brake on any car that won't be driven for an extended period of time. Any barn find video you see has sized brakes from this. Just chock the wheels.
Hey algorithm! Give this guy a break! Also, In places with cold winters the suggestion to keep your daily driver’s parking brake working is the either use it every time, or never use it. I guess this is to either break up the rust as it begins each day, or just let it rust but it won’t matter.
As somone who has lived their entire live in the rust belt, I learned at an early age that the parking brake was never to be touched in any vehicle with an auto trans.

This might be the most aesthetically pleasing fab you've done so far, and while your welds are still halfassed, they have improved markedly by a full halfass. Keep up the questionable certified good enough work Matt!

No but I can see the confusion. A halfass of a half ass is only a quarter ass. When adding a full half ass you actually are only reaching 3/4ass. The best Matt will ever be able to do is approach a full ass at the limit but never fully achieve full assery. I majored in halfassery with a minor in BS so I'm fully qualified to comment on this. @@porkyswelding

Einstein's general and special theory of relativity points out that full ass is the same to all observers no matter what reference point. And while amount of ass in full ass is not infinite, you would need infinite energy to reach level of full ass. Therefore two half asses, while it seems it would amount to one full ass, it does not. You see, if you half ass, you reach 50%. When you then add another half ass, you actually add 50% of 50%. Therefore you are at 75%. Then you add third half ass, that is going add only 12.5, as half of remaining 25. And so forth.

Printer tip, use IPA to clean the buildplate regularly, also keep finger grease away from the plate.
Seems like it would smell hoppy after that
IPA is more than you need honestly, dawn soap and hot water does the trick aswell.

With the Bambu Engineering plate and PETG, a liberal application of their glue stick works amazingly well to keep PETG (or even PLA) stuck to the plate and easy to release when cool.
Winch idea.
Put a tow hitch receiver onto your front bumper.
Make a winch mount that will fit into the receiver hitch.
Use a large Anderson plug for power.
Have done this and it is also good if you need to relocate the winch to pull backwards.
I also have a "Remote" mount so I can start it to a tree or rock etc with a spare battery.

I came here to say this... 2" receiver front and rear and you can have one winch on a mount to tow either direction.
You forgot to mention: wrap tow strap/chain over a tow garage rafters and then back around a trash can for leverage, THEN use Mr. Andersens power plug …
hitch receivers are not designed to be tow points but ig bad winch > no winch
@danielwoodard680 "Anderson Plug" is a type of Direct Current Plug.
For extra bonus points mount the winch on a pivot so it can swing left/right. That way you can winch at an angle without ending up with a tight ball of rope tangled up at one end of the drum.
You do need some sort of positive clamp to hold it at the required angle. I ended up using a quadrant with a curved row of holes that I can drop a bolt through.

For your truck, it might be prudent to regrease your sliding pin on your front brake. Sometime, salt make them seize.

That's actually a great looking bumper

A breaker bar on the lug nuts, or better yet the axle nut, does wonders for moving around nonrunning vehicles. A brick behind the tire is handy too for when you have to reset the breaker bar, if it's not the ratcheting kind

I use chocolate chip cookies to my neighbors on a regular basis. They love to do me favors. Do not try this method at 6am New Years Day.

I don't know much about auxiliary lighting, but I can say the headlights you pay for is absolutely what you get. The beam pattern is what really makes the difference.
This thing needs retrofitted with some Morimoto MLED's. $400 and a little grunt work, will surpass anything aftermarket.

ATV winch and a couple of snatch blocks can handle most sticky situations.
Bolt on every spare, whatever you can find, and racks, rooftop tents, sliders, and gas cans. The more you hqve, the more "Overlander" you are. I remember way back when I was a kid, it was just camping before Instagram came along. 😂😂
There's this thing called the Trailer Valet made for boat trailers that has a two speed hand crank with an automatic brake. It sure helped when moving my boat around on a slight incline on a driveway. They even make one that is motorized for larger applications. I'm sure with your fabrication skills, you could adapt it to just about any of your projects.

As someone who runs a laser cutter, yes, laser cutting is a huge cheat code.
I watch guys doing these hugely complex projects with grinders, band saws and way too much time and effort when I could literally laser cut their whole project in 10-15 minutes.

this video solidified my need for quickjacks. ive wanted them for a while. jacking up my 98 camry was easy. jacking up my 16 gti is not. i hate doing it. i need to install adjustable endlinks and ive been putting it off for 2 years because i hate jacking up the car so much. oil changes are done from the top with an extractor so i dont need to jack it up.
Right on! When i installed adjustable coil overs the first time quick jacked saved me a butt load of time. Super useful.
Ramps are always an option as well.
Quickjacks are alright. It can be annoying to try to set a parallel action (which is important or else the geometry of "up and forward" gets weird in a hurry) guessing where the jack points will land on the frame as they raise up and heaving them around to align, and they're not rated for outdoor use, so i.e. you're not recommended to use them on anything but a smooth concrete surface. For almost all activity where you can use a pair of pittsburg (harbor freight brand) 1.5 ton low profile jacks you should absolutely do that. The quickjacks get used when working under the vehicle since they support the frame evenly and have locking steps.

@@TylerWardhaha lowered car. i know they make race ramps but that makes it more difficult to take wheels off and such. and if you need the car level to do the job then you still need to jack up the back

That 80" light requirement would be helpful if more than 10% of the driving public knew what it means. Also, I can't believe that this requirement changes anything or anyone's driving behavior.

To be fair, having extra lights to keep a vehicle coming at you from blending into the pavement or background isn’t the worse problem when it comes to vehicle safety.

Strictly width... the Raptor was never intended to be a commercial vehicle. Also, all duallys have the extra lights (typically on the cab rather than grill) regardless of personal vs commercial
The requirement has nothing to do with commercial versus personal vehicles. It doesn't matter whether or not the general public knows what the lights mean, since they are most important only to other drivers of wide vehicles.
@@mikeunsupervised9254 I read the raptor got a special pass due to lights on the roof making the height too tall in parking garages, otherwise the regulation states they must be above the windshield.

As somebody who does quite a bit of functional off-roading in all sorts of conditions (I work on farms) I would highly suggest throwing in that SXS winch that you were talking about on a 2WD off roader like this, and throw some ground anchors (they look like oversized wine cork pullers) or even just a extra long chisel (pound into the ground at a forward angle and winch off the base) in the back. Big winches are pure marketing, and something 11,000 lb is just as likely to snap a cable or twist your frame as get you unstuck.
In a two-wheel drive vehicle like this you'll often end up in many situations where just a slight consistent tug will get you out, and if anything the winch will act as a retractable tow rope system, which is nice... And there's just something about a Viper with a winch that sounds so badass
(Not to mention it would have helped you in the last scene of this video, but that motorcycle tow was a cherry on the top of a great video 👍)

Fun fact, add a single laser cut in the centre of your bend line to keep holes from flaring when too close to the bends. One quick weld to clean it up after it's formed.

Add a brim in your slicing software before printing. Makes your part far less likely to come off the build plate during printing.

I've done so little lasercut parts, I'm not super confident, and I've had parts shipped to me that clearly weren't meant to be lasercut to begin with. Kind of on my, but as a novice, it's hart to guess what works and what doesn't.
This thing would look really good with some tree kickers/sliders. ( i think thats what theyre called) but essentially a bull bar side skirt to help the chassis slide across rocks without crumpling the doors
As soon as I saw that you were doing the bumper I was like "he's gonna rattle can it," and while I was right I did find myself to be pleasantly surprised by your choice. Also I've seen spade bit in router so end mill in drill isn't even the worst rotary blunder possible. 🤣
Older cars (90’s) parking brakes were typically drum brakes which are oriented in a way that the grab is increased if the car is moving forward so I would recommend when trying to unstuck a parking brake to break it going in reverse first.
I tried this for a moment but didn’t want to push my luck since my house was 1ft behind the RV.

Just going to drop here but a common tidy up on the edge of cut bumpers from bullbar installations in aus is to use pinch weld rubber edging to hide the seam.
You can never make your lights too bright on an offroad viper. I've checked other offroad vipers and they have them too. And always remember, any tool can be the right tool for the job.

I love this channel. I once rode a 2004 Triumph Rocket III 60 miles with the driveshaft from a 1984 Land Cruiser strapped behind me. The epic lives of crazy car guys.
Old video, but for the sendcutsend (i guess lasercut) parts, with holes next to bends, you can put a slit on the bend line that is the length of the hole, and it will relieve the bend and not make the hole wonky.

North... like the North Pole? I'm at 53° N, and I use the parking brake every time in every vehicle that I drive. Regular use helps; the better rule is "never use the parking brake on anything older than 5 years unless you know its history".

protip for your camper rust situation from someone who lives where they salt the roads
Before the next time you go to the salt flats - cover the entire undercarriage with a fluid film coating. I kinda doubt theres a local place to get it done where you are, but you can order the cans. Common brands are "fluid film' 'rust check coat and protect' and 'krown'. Barring that hose it down with some ATF. The fluid film is an oil, it'll creep in and cling to the metal and prevent water (and salt) from reaching the metal and causing rust, and will also help loosen up stuff thats already rusting.
It makes working on it a little gross cause everything is oily, but it is way better than trying to work on severe rust.

Winch solution: install front and rear receivers and electrical connections. Mount the winch on a steel tube and keep it in the trunk until needed.
