I kept yelling "there's more stuff coming put of the opening!" So I'm glad you addressed it. We had exactly the same problem here - glad i found your video
I was about to call a plumber. I just installed another moen model faucet, low pressure both sides, this was the exact issue. You saved me a few hundred bucks, my friend.
Had the same problem, found this video. Followed it step by step, and had the exact same black rubbery debris that you found. Clearly an issue with this Moen faucet, you are literally a life saver. I was about to uninstall the entire thing and return it, leaving my kitchen with no faucet since I threw away the old crusty one I removed. Thank you for posting this!!
I tried to do it two times but with no luck and I just purchased it at Lowes. I called the company and they said it would take 5 to 7 days to get new cartilage shipped to me. I went to Lowes and brought another for $20. I tried that one with no luck. But when you went to clean out the inside I did the same and a small piece of black plastic came out like in your video. I then reinserted it and now it works! Thank you! I was about to go back and buy a new one but not a Moen because I spent about an hour of my time. And I didn't want to go through it again.
I had the same symptom, all of a sudden the hot water flow was reduced, and I followed this video and my issue was exactly the and I was able to fix it quickly. Thanks for the good tips!
This was super-helpful to me. The cartridge itself and the underlying parts were all clogged with lime deposits. I took everything apart and flushed with vinegar, and soaked the cartridge in vinegar before taking it apart to ensure that it was clean. Faucet was only trickling on both hot and cold, and now works like new.
Covering the heart of the matter and many circumstances everyone wants to post cleaning the final screen videos and lack to cover this information. Well done. ✌😎
Excellent video helped save me valuable money as I was advised to change faucet. I did have a leaking hot water plug which they fixed for minimal cost but then said that the faucet has to be replaced. Thanks to your video I could find the debris once I opened the faucet and fix the hot water issue
At about the 50s mark, a comment is made about those flimsy shutoff valves not working. One way to make sure these valves last a lifetime is to exercise them every 6mos. or so. Just had this problem about the Moen shutoff valve on my kitchen faucet just failing to the shut off side, no water coming out whatsoever. I have lived in this residence since new, 27 years ago, and had counters put in about 10 years ago with a new Moen kitchen faucet, and have been regularly hiking around to all the sinks and exercising those valves and bingo, working like a charm as I repair this faucet. Thanks tremendously for calling out the specific size of the allen wrench needed, as I could see inside the faucet control arm set screw hole but could not tell that there was even an allen screw there, until I tried the 7/64" size that had the right fit and feel, which surprised me as I had tried probably everything from 1/8" and up until I watched the video.
Solved my issue! Actually had to change the cold water valve first as it was locked open. After that, still low cold line pressure and the faucet was the issue
Thank you for this great video with clear instructions. I especially liked the explanation of the cause of the blockage from the shut off valve at the end. Found my problem!
You all probably dont care at all but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Eli Nehemiah Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Great video, I saw all these others with back flushing so I did that, had some chunks of black rubber come out but still wouldn't get full pressure. I knew there was some in the transfer but didn't know how to get to it until I saw your video. Took off my handle, and the hot water side looked just like yours blocked with a big chunk of rubber. thank you
Wow I tried replacing the valve, and taking apart the cartridge. I had this exact issue. Part of the old valve seal was blocking the water line. Idk if I would have figured that out myself so thank you so much for explaining your whole situation and how to fix it!
thanks for this. installed a new one and the under-sink valves hadn't been touched in over 20 years and must have dislodged a bunch of gunk right into it cause i had no cold water to speak of.
Great video, we all need to give a shout out to TH-cam and Google for providing this platform. They are the only ones who truly deserve our streaming dollars if they were charging for this service.
OMG! I have the exact same moen model. I think my low pressure is due to the faucet head. I wish you could do a quick video of disassembling it. I'm so afraid I'll screw it up and break something. Thank you for doing this video.
This is great!!! I’m totally trying this! I just had the hot water tank replaced and when they turned the water back on, the kitchen hot was much slower than before-all the other faucets were fine. The plumber flushed the lines in the kitchen but I still have the prob. There was a lot of galvanized gunk that had come out so I think that’s what’s on the mixer thingy u showed. Hopefully this will be the fix! (Fyi wasn’t my usual plumber who did the install-hot water tank just stopped so it was an emergency plumber-wouldn’t recommend)
Very helpful. This got my hot water line opened back up. However, after following this video, the pressure is slightly down overall.. Not sure why! Any tips/insight would be greatly appreciated!
Great video. I had the same issue with debris from the shut off valves after installing a new faucet. It worked for a week then no hot water. Found lots of debris in the aerator and lines. Changed the shut off valves for both the hot and cold. Good info. Thanks
Great video. My new Moen Single Handle drips for a few seconds, replaced the cartridge but didn't fix the drips. I'm waiting for the new faucet, but do you think I should change my old shut-off valves first. Do you think it could be related?
You should add some more tags to this video if I would have found it sooner it could have shaved to a horse off my fixed time on my sink. Thank you for your video it fixed it
see now i wouldve liked to see the rest of the problem and you install the new piece too. cuz if im in the same boat and then do the first part, and i get the same second problem, im not confident enough that i can replace that piece without it leaking, and im gonna want a pro to do it just to avoid future problems. but if you had SHOWED ME how you did it, i could mimic it. i loved "hey ive got nothing better to do" LOL
Usually you can do that without taking the faucet apart: - Turn off the hot water shut-off under the sink. - Disconnect the supply hose from the hot water shut-off valve and route it into a bucket. - Turn on the hot and cold water. This will back flush the hot side and the crap ends up in the bucket. If you block the output of the water, finger or saran wrap under head threads, it will pressurize the reverse flow of the hot water line. Let it run a minute or so after the crap comes out to get all of it.
What should we do if the hex wrench doesn’t loosen the handle? I’m trying with the 3/32” as recommended (and even with others) but it’s just turning without traction.. thank you so much for this great video! :)
What you showed at the end of the video. Part of my gasket got stuck in the hot water line leading to the handle it is a good size piece and it totally blocked the braided line that leads to the faucet.Cant get the piece out so I'm without hot water for know until I buy a new faucet
This is a great video, but could you also show how to take the faucet head apart, I have hot and cold water, but the stream of water coming out of the faucet head , the stream is getting less and less, Thank you so much!!
Have same low flow hot water problem, plumber didn't flush supply lines of rust, etc., from water heater heater before install of new faucet, he has disappeared. Will try turning on hot and cold water to flush lines before reinstalling the cartridge
Can't get the retainer unscrewed. We have really hard water in our city. I might have to cut it out and just cross my fingers I don't mess up the threads for the new one
Can you please tell me what size allen wrench you used to get the set screw out? My screw is hidden on the bottom and, I cannot see to find the correct. size. Thank you!
Thank you for the video. A friend just asked me about one of these with "no water" at all. Could this be the issue with it, or is there more to it that could be the problem ?
When you turn the shutoffs back on never fully open them - open fully then back off quarter turn - the next time you need to turn them off you’ll have wriggle room in their turning rather than trying to turn them in one direction from fully open. They will be done much easier to turn that way
Had the same issue. Faucet has been installed and working fine for 2 years. I searched to see if anyone else had same issue and found this video. Found the exact same little piece of black plastic blocking the hot side. Seems as if mohen has a problem.

Thanks, I bought a new faucet, but returned it after following your video ! Thank you for sharing your knowledge !!
Thanks for making this video. I’m trying this in the morning. Wish me luck!
what happened

@Eli Nehemiah it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out!
@Derrick Enoch Glad I could help =)

This is exactly what I needed. We had the same little black pieces from broken valve. Was able to follow this step by step. Thank you.
Thank you for this! I am encouraged to give it a try. My clogged line is the cold. Happened after I shut off the supply line to service my RO system.
Thank you very much. Fixed it straight up. I had to clean it twice, same problem with the washer in the shut off valve.
Wow I tried replacing the valve, and taking apart the cartridge. I had this exact issue. Part of the old valve seal was blocking the water line. Idk if I would have figured that out myself so thank you so much for explaining your whole situation and how to fix it!
Thank you for adding the part at the end about where the debris came from. I'll be checking our valves now. 👏👍🏻💪
I had the exact same problem with the exact same root cause. Thank you sir!
Thank you simple and to the point. I’m going to tell her it fixed its self
thank you so much for making this video. I have the exact same problem and now know how to fix it.
thanks for this. installed a new one and the under-sink valves hadn't been touched in over 20 years and must have dislodged a bunch of gunk right into it cause i had no cold water to speak of.

Great filming. Very informative.
Thank you for this! Was the exact problem with our new faucet, and my not super handy husband was able to fix it with the help of this video.
OMG! I have the exact same moen model. I think my low pressure is due to the faucet head. I wish you could do a quick video of disassembling it. I'm so afraid I'll screw it up and break something. Thank you for doing this video.
It worked! Thanks so much. I was about to call a plumber.
This clip was very helpful thank you.
Thank you for this video ,thought the small ring cap unscrewed like other videos whoo-hoo it just pops off..Thanks again
Very informative and direct 👍 👏 👌 Excellent advice
Thank you. Very good instructions. Saved me a lot of time and trouble.

Where do you think debris is coming from? We having same issue. Is it from faucets or water supply
I had a washer inside the shut off valve deteriorate which clogged the faucet. I back flushed it and it solved the problem.
Thanks for the well explained video.
Great video thanks just what I needed
Great video. My new Moen Single Handle drips for a few seconds, replaced the cartridge but didn't fix the drips. I'm waiting for the new faucet, but do you think I should change my old shut-off valves first. Do you think it could be related?
Great Video ! I have a question, I often have to tighten the handle set screw.. it comes lose two days later. I can’t understand why.
Awesome video! Simple and straight forward!
You should add some more tags to this video if I would have found it sooner it could have shaved to a horse off my fixed time on my sink. Thank you for your video it fixed it
Great tutorial, just saved me from buying a new faucet, thanks
Your a life saver! Thanks.
Great video. If I would have started with you I could have saved 2 hrs. Thanks So Much
thx. you just saved me a call to the plumber.
Thank you for posting this helpful video

the intro is goated
Well done sir and thank you.
What should we do if the hex wrench doesn’t loosen the handle? I’m trying with the 3/32” as recommended (and even with others) but it’s just turning without traction.. thank you so much for this great video! :)
great video..BUT...I couldn't get the water to stop pissing out the valve even tho I shut off the water valves...any suggestions? Thanx!!
Great DIY video. Thank you so much sir.
That is the exact issue - thank you for the video!
Thanks you are the master.
what’s the problem, if you cleaned out the cartridge & you still have low water pressure?
Good video!
I too have that black smudgy stuff in my line. Any idea what it is since it’s clearly leaking into the water supply?
Have same low flow hot water problem, plumber didn't flush supply lines of rust, etc., from water heater heater before install of new faucet, he has disappeared. Will try turning on hot and cold water to flush lines before reinstalling the cartridge
I have this problem, but the cartridge was clean. It is plugged inside the tap somehow. New tap, plugged by an old shutoff gasket I suspect.
If you ever need to replace these type shut-offs, switch to a 1/4 turn ball valve shut-off. Never leak, easy to turn.
What size Allen wrench did you use??
Can't get the retainer unscrewed. We have really hard water in our city. I might have to cut it out and just cross my fingers I don't mess up the threads for the new one
Can you please tell me what size allen wrench you used to get the set screw out? My screw is hidden on the bottom and, I cannot see to find the correct. size. Thank you!
3/32
Thank you for the video. A friend just asked me about one of these with "no water" at all. Could this be the issue with it, or is there more to it that could be the problem ?
What is the proper size Allen wrench to remove the handle set screw?
3/32
What size is the Allen wrench? Proper? What size did you use
3/32
Dude, thanks so much!
Thanks for the vid!
After cleaning mine out it is still clogged. Is there some where before that cartridge that it can clog
Thank u ..very helpful
Is your water too hot to make black washer fall apart?
When you turn the shutoffs back on never fully open them - open fully then back off quarter turn - the next time you need to turn them off you’ll have wriggle room in their turning rather than trying to turn them in one direction from fully open. They will be done much easier to turn that way
So, why not buy 1/4 turn valve instead of the valve that failed after many years?
They are all plastic shit today and thanks to big brother the flow sucks. Screw these restrictive low flow cartridges and aerators.
Thank you
What model number is this faucet. I need new O rings.
Cover sink drains so you don’t loose that little cap. O ring caused that? Years ago, you didn’t have theses problems.
save me couple of hundred, Thanks! Great Video!
What if when you install a new fa
ucet and no water is coming though it
Had the same issue. Faucet has been installed and working fine for 2 years. I searched to see if anyone else had same issue and found this video. Found the exact same little piece of black plastic blocking the hot side. Seems as if mohen has a problem.
Thank You Sir
Wish I would have come here first before I drained my hot water heater! My clog was even more simple, it was in the hose aerator.
So I checked for this and even put a new cartridge and the water flow is still low. Now what?
Why is the light flashing and now I have no water, touch faucet model.
What you are talking about in this video, I’ve already had that problem. Will not be buying a moen faucet again.
I would take some plumbers silicone grease and give a light coding on face of removable valve.
Thank you!
Thanks
It did not work. I have no idea what to do next.
I just purchase the faucet
Okay, I’m now aware the water won’t come back on…
really helpful, thanks
