I love the fact that Simon is a potterhead- (slight spoiler) I mean, he went as a dementor to the Halloween Party! Also, he is a *Drarry* shipper. Drarry! His first crush was Harry, for Merlin's sake!
I read this book after seeing your goodreads review and I loved it so much! It just made me really happy and it was so funny. I could not put it down. Although I will say that I guessed who Blue was very early on in the story and I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a twist or something the readers were meant to know the whole time and that kind of bugged me. And I do agree with your critique about the side characters as well.
I loved this book! I read it shortly after it was released and ended up finishing it all in one sitting. You are completely right about it being a lighthearted read, but with a great message. The author is extremely sweet too.
I'd been seeing that book in various places and when it came up in the school catalogue I just had to buy it. One of my favourite contemporary books. Regarding Blue, when I reread it I'll see how obvious their identity is. Great review 👍
I've been seeing this book everywhere lately, but never even read the synopsis or anything so I really didn't know what it was about! But your review definitely made me want to read it, thank you! :)
I have heard SO many good reviews for this book. I actually bought it even though I don't read very many contemporaries, but I haven't got around to reading it yet. I'm excited about the idea of reading it again though after listening to your review. Love that you liked a lot of the characters (even if you wanted some more) and that the reveal took you by surprise. Great review! :)
This book has been on my radar for a little while, but I'm now convinced that I need to read it (with a pack of Oreos within reach 😋)! Great review, as always!
well, I started this reading just thinking about improve my english, and what a suprise I have with this book, I loved it so much that I couldn't do anything but read until finish it. Your video helped me to choose this book so, thanks ;)
Ok so I didn't know if I should read this book or not so decided to watch a review (this was really good btw) but as soon as she said the book supported the 'no default sexuality' idea I knew I had to read it. I've always said straight people never have to walk up to people and tell them "I'm straight" so why should people who are lgbt+ have to do this with their sexuality?
I love this book so much and I didn't guess who blue was. I took note of lots of quotes that I loved from the book. I liked it when he said that blue kissed like Elliot smith sings. And the quote about why he didn't like movies. I actually have never identified so strongly with a character before regarding sexuality because I'm good with my own but I wouldn't want to tell my parents because embarrassment. I could talk about this book all day.
I'm usually not one for the fluffy kind of contemporary, which this on was overall. I picked it up when it first came out and I have to say that I loved it. There were so many good quotes and a great cast of characters. Basically I agree with everything you've said in this review. I haven't gotten around to filming mine yet.
This book definitely sounds good, I've heard of it before but for some reason I thought it was about something completely different. I think I'll definitely have to give it a shot now.
I loved loved loved this book... but someone had spoiled it for me before I even started reading so I already knew who Blue was :'( I hate when that happens. I wanted to see if I could have figured it out on my own, and I think it would be much more fun if I wasn't jumping in my seat whenever Blue's character was mentioned before the reveal, or wasn't able to pick up on all the clues he dropped. But still, it's an amazing read. Can't even imagine how amazing it must be without the mystery being spoiled! I wish I could forget everything I know about it and re-read. So so amazing!
I really really enjoy this book, and i totally agree with everything you said, Simon is such a fun and relatable character. I love how he interact with his friends and his families, i love his awesome hipsters-wannabe parents. i love his two sisters and i actually love who blue turned out to be. like you, i didn't guess correctly as who BLue was half way through the story until the reveal. so i guess, it was a fun read for me to this point because it would have been less exciting if my guessing was correct since the beginning. I love it that it's such a light read and fun and happy ending. Ps. I love all your videos and most of the books you recommend. Keep doing what you are doing. By the way, i'm from Melbourne. So hello Neighbour. :)
I heard of the book from Tumblr and saw some posts that said who blue was, so I knew. It was frustrating at times, because I knew who he was and Simon didn't and he just wasn't getting it! lol
Hey Caz! I just wanna tell you that i really love your videos -especially the book hauls and unboxings- and you are so good in this! I'm mexican and...i see you in the next video. I love u Byeee(i'm singing like you)
Hey Cass!!.. I stumbled upon this book as it was in my Amazon Recommendations: I Googled ‘Becky Albertalli’ and somehow found this Review!!.. Just wanted to tell you to carry on what you’re doing,As I think your so clear and relatable too: Just like Simon in the book!! (I’m not trying to hit on you or anything by the way-I’m Gay and from the UK!!.. 👍🏼😂😘😘
You are beautiful!! Btw thank you so much. Well, i saq the movei first so i knew basically😅 but it was way different and i was obsessed....like you remember the last lines?? I was 2 days waiting to be in a good place to read that part. Just for freaking 5 lines..if that. And i am so happy i did it becuase i was so happy for him....and this is the best book i have ever read and to my surprise, Love, simon was the best movie i have ever watched as well! And tbh Love, victor was my fav series tooo...like you may guess i am not straight. But i am and i love all of these PRETTY much that i have been writing a SONG. Yeah, a literal song with Love victor dialogues and...i am gonna post that soon..gosh when i am obsessed with somethig...there is nothing against me. You know?
Like this book is soooooooooo good! I loved every bit of it! Definitely 5 out of 5 stars!!! And I agree he really is Relateable! I just can't wait for this movie! Like omg!!
Lovely review! Detailed but still, i'd still considered this spoilers-free! Anyway, would you say picking up this book throws a social stigma towards me? I know it's LGBT but do you feel uncomfortable with possible being judged the wrong way? Cheers! Great review! :)
This book posits the idea of proclaiming your sexuality? If there's a label for everything (e.g. liberal/conservative) and you have to proclaim it, that doesn't do anything but define or reinforce stereotypes. Not exactly the way to have engaging conversations or open people to more understanding. I can imagine people saying, Ew, don't play with him, he's from the purple people and believes the Earth is square.
I read this book. loved it. I agree on the least favorite character. I mean, the book literally starts out with him blackmailing Simon so I didn't really expect much from him, but yeah that guy was a jerk. I think that was kind of the whole point of the character though. lol I actually did correctly predict who Blue was. If you go back, the author did hint at it, but it was subtle and I'm surprised I even caught it. All the same, I'm very pleased with who Blue turned out to be. Also, as an LGBT person reading this book, I would say the author pretty much nailed it. With the themes of coming out and coming to terms with one's self, there were some scenes in this book that were very reminiscent of my own experiences. I basically couldn't put this book down. Overall it was a very relatable and fun story.
I adored this book and I agree with you on Simon being relatable! (especially all of his potterhead tendencies, they made me happy)
