I think one thing that should be baked in (pun intended) throughout the story of the game is a sense of progression. Having purpose is so important for the soul of a game.
Love all you have done, especially on TH-cam. ❤❤. It is a blessing to have your presence in TH-cam. Keep creating. All the best in developing your cozy game. I can see your efforts. Keep going stronger, keep making fun games.
It's funny how you make a video on story building. A recent game this month that everyone really enjoyed the dialogue and story for was Tactical Breach Wizards. Besides the funny jokes and interesting lore, just listening to each character and seeing them react to situations in a unique way which is still in line with their characters really made all of them compelling to the player. It's hard to get right but man when you do, its a beauty. Can't wait to see how your story looks when it's done!
Excellent presentation, and the story experience discussion opened a window through which my thoughts drifted, back to my Aunt Myrtle's Store next door to their big house in a small town...it was a magical place in real life, and so too is the memory🐱. Really excellent points which I've not heard in game design videos before.
I guess I don’t care what a story is about as long as the characters are interesting which for me typically will include complex inner conflict and character development and also to see growing love and friendship between characters.
Branching narrative is such a big undertaking! We are doing something very similar to you gals. Our protagonist is Agatha and you get to choose her response when speaking to her crew but it's her story and you decide how her relationships go with those around her. And same as you, the events of the story are fixed but Agatha's personality, attitudes and relationships throughout will change depending on the way the player goes about the game. Great vid!
i love that you actually get the option to decide Agatha's relationship with her crew members! that is the perfect way to allow the player to feel some semblance of control, while not making an overwhelming amount of work for the devs. best of luck!
Great insight about game writing, and I agree. My first game writing job was for a dating sim mobile game, and creating branching dialogues with different routes was reaaaallly a tough road to go through. As for my fav narrative games, I relate to those which involving mental health issues like A Space for the Unbound (another Indonesian game), but I also love fantasy/supernatural story games with memorable music like Frostrune, Undertale/Deltarune, Ib, OFF, and OneShot (I'm a kind of music person myself so yeah).
Great to see you're passion for developing your games story! There seems to be a lot that you want the player to feel. How are you planning on taking the player through all those feelings, without overwhelming them?
In video game, perhaps my favorite story belongs to Metal Gear Solid 3. Your Codec interactions with your support crew helps build up the world and the game had these odd bits of historical facts mixed with alternate history SF. Plot-wise I actually prefer silly goofy simple plots like Under The Skin where you're an alien prankster in a contest to drive humans crazy from annoyance.
OH apologies! Here are the titles of the games featured: Choo Choo Charles Five Nights at Freddy's Omori Little Misfortune Undertale Minami Lane Lemon Cake Fields of Mistria Stardew Valley Spiritfarer
Good but can you tell your friends at big studio that have well established IP not to ruin it for everybody else. We don't expect your cozy game to be bloody, metal music with sexy female characters.
what type of stories do you enjoy most in games?
I think one thing that should be baked in (pun intended) throughout the story of the game is a sense of progression. Having purpose is so important for the soul of a game.
Absolutely! Its critical in order to keep the player actually PLAYING the game for hours on end.

Stories about existentialism and the nature of existence and the psyche
Oh this!! Love it when a game makes me question my entire existense
This was relaxing to listen to, thank you
