I tried something like the Sensorama at the 2009 NY comic con, where you went inside a booth and wore some 3d binocular looking device that allowed you to watch a movie in 4D with the typical 4D movies effects, i.e: water, wind, bibration and such.

Jacaro yeanh, not happening, you see, the machine killed you becouse it sent microwaves into your head, the book however says that the device works with microwaves all the time and if you gamed continuosly for some time, your head would explode. something like that would never be legal

patricio torre who said REAL LIFE would be the same as some ANIME. Stop trying to impress me with your apparently superior weabo knowledge , and no im not reading manga. Aint' nobody got time for that.

      1)you said it
2)reading a book does not make me a weeaboo (having a dbz profile pic, however, does)
3)reading manga is less time-consuming than watching anime (average time to read dragon ball manga vs watching dragonball+dragon ball z)

Nice video. Visual quality of the VR headset looks very good nowadays, also rather affordable(good quality-price ratio), too. The issue is the controller and the software didn't catch up, if you want to convert fingers you will need to pay, otherwise your fingers will only work like 30-45 degrees on the front with the headset-camera emulations, since you can't see your hands, there's no such concept as 'virtual-tracked-gadgets' which headset tracks your real-life hardwares(mouse/keyboard/audio headset/chair/table), which is bad on the AR aspect and ruin your room setups. For the walk/run you can use treadmill solution so I guess that's fine(Actually, if you don't get the solution you will easily get to the motion sickness if you just stand or sit, many games just let you teleport or something, which is not immersive again, there's software solution efforts on it, though.). Anyway, it's not quite immersive, plus there's no feedback on touching stuffs unless you get haptic solutions, device have no weights since you were actually holding your controller(you can tight controller onto the objects to try to emulate it, but there's no standard, so every games/software require different setups, which is rather inconvenience), plus you will need much DIY hardware/software to bind all these up currently, too many efforts to any market. This is surely going to change on recent years, though. (you can run VR with okay PC easily right now btw, unless you want to run something very crazy)
The real issue is the software, big companies don't seems want to full-in to the market yet, so the market is almost like indie only market, which is exactly not like the PC indie otherwise I won't mention it like this, many companies don't have experience on the game market and made many weird mess that's out-of-the-market for somehow. So the thing still have few years to be stable, but it surely is near(easiest setup cost like $200-$500 btw). The recent 'fruit vision' is interesting, but $3500-3900? You can solve all the hardware issues I mentioned above with this money and still have plenty left! Too much attentions made it easily to misleading the people that it still being unaffordable(well, the other VR hardware companies also not putting enough efforts anyway), it did bring some interesting new hardware/software standards/solutions to the market though, which is nice.
Funny stuff is the 'adult' market is leading the addon-hardware/software right now, like when it weren't I guess. lol

OK, the VR is more than the Visual feeling of reality.
I think it you should also mention Omi direct tred mills (Virtuix Omni
& Cyberith Virtulizer [Yes ok, you see it in the beginning, but i would be happy if u mentioned it]) and Body movement detection devices (Kinect & PrioVR).
All in all, nice Video :D

Cam Robinson, the Ultimate Display was the name that Sutherland gave to the HMD? Reading his paper, I thought Ultimate Display was only an ideal virtual reality device, matching exactly with the concept of "holodeck" from the Star Trek series.

When the final prototype of the Oculus comes out it will be good enough for any VR, the only problem currently is the lack of VR content and while porn and games on a real 3D 4k screen would be beyond awesome i would probably use it even to watch normal stuff, beats holding a phone or tablet in your hand for sure.

The virtual boys nausea... Well Nintendo did fix that a while later with the 3ds line.
Id still recommend a 3ds xl or one of the N3ds models to avoid your comfort zone being outside the 3d target zone...
the N3ds apparently has the same benefits as IPS (VS TN) panels that it has a larger reach.

I think that gamedevs started from wrong side. Sorry for bad english. I want to say that they integrated only compatibility with VR glasses into their games but you still play with keyboard+mouse or gamepad. But i want to interact with every object of the gameworld. Like to take a brick and beat with it a zombie in Dying Light for example, stick my fingers into its eyes, take a stone and throw it into a window so it would break. I know that VR is about immersion, but games are about interaction at first place, then immersion.

The fall of VR in the 90's makes me think of the "Death" of video games way back when. (Can't remember the year.) Video games were revived by Nintendo, but at the same time, Nintendo killed VR for a bit... Well at least they revived video games!

    • @yugij0319
      @yugij0319 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, there was a huge crash in video game sales in the USA, and some people of the time considered them to be "Dead". Nintendo was wanting to sell video games over here, but they new that they had to make video game appealing again, since there was no longer an appeal. So they completely redesigned their NES system for the US release, to look more like a VHS player, and not a video game console. And when they sold the NES over here, it completely revitalized the industry. So without Nintendo, the video game industry, at least in the US, might of actually died.
