    Noticed that most swedes cheered for the danes in the World Cup Handball final against France that was played in Stockholm. Had Sweden played in the final somewhere in Denmark against any other team than Denmark, the danes would have rooted for the Swedes. That's how it is with brothers. We ridicule each other but we also stand up for each other.

    It’s a shame that we don’t get taught to understand each other’s languages now. We did a few years ago but not anymore. As a kid I could speak Danish in Sweden and I understand Swedish but now it’s easier to speak English because only a handful of people understands Danish. It was such a unique experience when we spoke and understood each other.

      It gives us a lot of confidence and a Quick Enrollment on other's culture If we know their language.

      That's because accents and dialects aren't the same in Sweden anymore. Idk about Denmark but the Swedish government have been trying to get rid of accents/dialects for a long time and forcing everyone to speak "rikssvenska" aka "Stockholm Swedish" which has always been the least mutually understandable with all the other Scandinavian tounges, considering it's distance from Denmark and Norway respektive.

    Back in the day with no internet and few channels on the telly - we had a lot of cooprations, like the show "man o' man" that was showed in scandinavia and had 3 hosts, 1 from each language. So we where exposed to our languages a lot. In 1996 i was with my family on vacation in Spain, my mom is not confident speaking other languages, though she understands them and a drunk night at the bar, she and a Swedish lady had a good drunk talk for a few hours, my mom spoke Danish, and the Swedish lady spoke Swedish. The guy behind the bar, who where from the UK had his mind blown, cos these two ladies CLEARLY did not speak the same language, yet they kept talking, laughing and noding to each other. They where clearly having conversations - but in each their language - really fun to watch =)

    A shame they don't understand Danish better. I have no idea how it sounds to others, but weird I imagine. It is all about exposure (and also a little bit about your own interest/inclination). I've lived in Norway for a year and got exposed to many of their different dialects. I also watched Swedish television as a child and have a few Swedish friends. That means that I have absolutely no problem understanding Norwegian and Swedish (although if is a very strong dialect, I would ask them to speak slower). I absolutely hate speaking English to Swedes and Norwegians; it feels so wrong to me.

    I am Swedish and I love Denmark. We are taught to love our Scandinavian brothers & sisters, and we do. Swedes are definitely the most harsh in jokes against Danes. We know that they have thick skin. And I think it's the same for them against us Swedes. Tough love. I always support Denmark in sports or competitions, except when they play Sweden. Apart from Swedish victory, Scandinavian/Nordic victory will always be better than anything else. It is also always good for Sweden that our neighbours do well, because it also sets the standard for Sweden.
    Regarding the language, I think it's good that Danes speak Danish with Swedes. I am always annoyed to see Swedes & Danes speaking English to each other. Swedes understand Danish by reading. The complexity is how they pronounce things. But if they speak more "clearly" I always understand what they are saying. We Swedes are the best at criticising Swedes over problems with the language. The fact that we understand Norwegian means that we also feel a sense of belonging and close relationship to Norway & Norwegians. I wish and hope it can be the same for Denmark in the future. Love you our Danish brothers & sisters 🇩🇰❤️🇸🇪

  • @Ranta-Hurri
    @Ranta-Hurri 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Danes are good people and their language is definitely the most beautiful of the Scandinavian languages. The Swedish language is not even its own language, but a northern Danish albino dialect and this is something that the Swedes are not aware of.
    All civilized people in the Nordic countries know how to speak Danish or Finnish.
    The Danes can be proud of their own language, which is the most original and beautifully poetic, with a straight-backed masculinity. Swedes are jealous of Danes when they can't speak their language. To learn Danish, you have to have a brain!!
    I am Finnish and I defend the Danes. We have the same directness in character as the Danes and have had to suffer too much from the Swedes

    I would like the Swedes here calling Danes "enemies" to try to think a little. Just a little. Denmark have in connection with Sweden and Finland´s application to join NATO offered security guaranties to both nations should POOtin make more mistakes. SO basically Danes have said they are willing to put their life´s on the line to protect Swedes and Sweden.
    Maybe a lot of Swedes need to grow up and face reality.
    Sweden are the nation leeching on all it´s Nordic neighbours, again very clearly demonstrated during the Covid pandemic where Sweden unsolidaric, in a pandemic context, (non) actions meant Sweden exported the virus to ALL of its neighbours. Even Sweden officially have recognised this via a study performed at Lund´s university.
    Swedish media have for years failed Sweden gravely by not reporting a lot of things meaning they have been unprepared for reality when it have hit them. The Swedish behaviour towards Finland during the pandemic were a big reason for Finland to realise they had to get security guarantees beyond from Sweden. But Swedes most will never realise this because of the failure over decades from the Swedish mass media.

      It’s sibling banters! Denmark is absolutely not our enemy, but was back in the days from a historical perspective. The Danes banter the Swedes about “South Sweden is Denmark” (which btw Swedes banter the south of Sweden for as well because of their dialect) and the Swedes banter Denmark about lots of stuff as well.
      I am Swedish and I’ve never met a Swede who’s disliking our Scandinavian brothers & sisters. In fact, Swedes tend to speak very highly about their Scandi brothers & sisters and praise them even more than Swedes & Sweden. But in a context like this when they’re getting the question, it’s like a moment of dropping sibling banters. And just a Scandi approach we have towards each other. Swedes would never say bad stuff about other countries like this. And it’s because they have love for Denmark and a close relationship.
