There are 4 singers in New Edition... Ralph, Johnny, Bobby and Ricky!!! I saw them in concert and all 6 (Mike & Ron included) were AWESOME! They are all like brothers with Ralph & Bobby being the closest. Rickey doesn't get the accolades he should & neither does Ralph. In their early years Ralph did a lot of Bobby's vocals on Bobby's solo albums & never got the credit he deserves. The manager @ that time told the real story & Bobby confirmed it! He said Ralph always had his back from day one!.

All of them can sing & all have different styles! Johnny is the crooner, Bobby the entertainer & Ralph the swooner.. Not taking away from any one but Ralph has always held down New Edition from the beginning, even after Bobby left & b4 Johnny. Ralph has been the consistent one!

Now i know Bobby isn't talking about Ricky when his voice fell off in the late 90s. Ricky SINGS! Ricky still can sing to this day AND he is the most consistent live.

Ralph is more consistent than Ricky considering allll that he does during a show. Ricky doesn't sing much, isn't leading, and STILL sounds shaky and pitchy when he sings. Ralph has an excuse. Well, I know who had the mikes on and those of us who really remember we remember when Mike and Ronnie used to actually sing solo parts, not just rap. I had to come back and add more to this. Ricky has carried the bridge in some of their most popular songs. carried the high note in every hook and has been able to sustain the lead in BBD... it was shady not to acknowledge that when bobby's voice wasn't the best in the first place and had declined at this point. It's on it's way back but still not counted among the best of the group. I love Johnny but he knows damn well Ricky is the 3rd voice.
Ricky barely sings when Bobby is there. Just a few notes here and there. people always forget poor Ricky because he's not memorable sadly. A bit stiff and boring. Just a mediocre performer.

Bobby was thinking when HE was in the group and the original 5, not Johnny. He was speaking about his experience and history with the group as far as when they were covering the singing aspect. He just didn't make that clear. So he was talking about Ralph, Bobby, and Ricky as the 3 who can really sing. Ricky may have had the least solo success as he actually did release an unsuccessful solo album in 2000 but everyone knows there is 4 vocalists and that they all can SANG, everyone knows that and everyone knows Ronnie and Mike's role is not as the hardcre vocalists. So it is not a big deal when someone says only so and so can really sing. Try thinking in context of who New Edition is before going to a thought about them. That is apart of why New Edition is so exceptional and the greatest group of all time, because you do not need all 100% heavy vocalists in the group, you need balance. Just as the 4 main vocalists are the top professionals in their singing ability that you can find, Ronnie and Mike are the top at what they do. Ronnie and Mike KILL what they do. The rapping, speaking, and breakdown parts are an equal part of what makes ALL of their hit songs such dynamic pieces of music and why their music so uniquely great to the ear.
Bobby voice isn't like it use to be! By the way Ralph and Ricky voices sound better together.....then with Bobby and Johnny. Johnny voice sound churchy.

Why do people always say Ricky is the most consistent? He better be! He only sings 5 to 10 words per song. He isn't singing full songs and working the crowd like Ralph,Johnny,and Bobby.Poison he basically sings the chorus and Mike and Ronnie rap. In Smile he sings alone but usually stands in one place and doesn't sell the song. He's the most introverted performer ever. lol
