Very true, they were always clear any interest they had in that kind of stuff was purely academic. But talking of messing with forces you don't understand, think there was a story that during the recording of this album their manager or producer crashed his car and the repair bill came to £666............

The lead singer is so impressive he practices opera to keep voice in shape and one of the only bands that has its own 747 to tour with that the lead singer is the pilot of (not kidding) not just that but hes also an award-winning beer brewer, film scriptwriter, international fencer, TV presenter & sports commentator, and Sunday Times #1 best-selling author with the publication of his autobiography What Does This Button Do? and one of the most energetic front men in any band ever

Don’t be too frightened of the imagery, for real…the title track is about a dream the bass player had…they’re not evil, at all…they’re all very down-to-earth guys…drummer is a born-again Christian. They just make music about sometimes dark (and also, sometimes very real) subjects.

Now you're on a Maiden journey, you absolutely must react to Phantom of The Opera from their first album with their original singer Paul Dianno. It's probably one of their best songs, and goes through so many changes in feel and tempo
It's almost classical in its composition. Then do Remember Tomorrow from the same album....oh my god. What a sound and what a voice. But do the studio versions.

This song is theoretical, or story driven, as many of them are. It’s this guy struggling with his fate as he is about to be hung. In the end he realizes that he believes in God, thus Hallowed be Thy name”, and realizes he has nothing to fear from death.
I know you struggle with the images from the cover. It’s important to note that they equate the devils and demons in their artwork to the evil humanity does to each other. As a teen in the 80’s I tried explaining the symbolism to my poor mother who HATED my Iron Maiden t-shirts because she thought they were devil worshippers. Rest easy, my friend, they are not, just inclined to use symbols and metaphors.

I know this song, but most of them I don't, so I try and catch a lot of reactions to them. One brother is a drummer, and the other plays 6 string Bass and it a gifted musician, and I learned a lot from him.

That image is for the song 'The Number of the Beast' which writer/bassist Steve Harris said he had a nightmare and wrote about the move 'The Omen'. When it came out it was the first time movie audiences were told about the story of the Anti Christ and the number of the beast 666. So the band mostly writes about history, events, books and movies. Very little fluff songs. The band is not into Satanic stuff whatsoever but they do cover subjects that are dark sometimes. This song has different pictures associated with it. Thanks for sharing and great reaction. Chris

The band was one of the early bands of the new British wave of heavy-metal that came out in the late 70s early 80s The gentleman in the band are a rather eclectic group of individuals. The lead vocalist Bruce Dickerson is also commercial airline pilot and an avid sword fighter. Story tellers of scary stuff but they’re a rather normal group of boring nerdy dads Hahaha. 😄.

With his roots in rudimental drumming (used on the battlefields of old to communicate orders to troops) Clive Burr was one of the most influential metal drummers of his day. Along with Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Lars in Metallica, takin what hard rock band like Jetrho Tull and Black Sabbathd had done in the 70's and updating it for an age that was becoming more gear driven. Bigger drum kits were just the big thing.
Clive was as much a part of the original Maiden sound as Paul, the original singer. Number of the Beast would be his last album with the band. Most of their songs are written by the bass player and he is the primary source of that galloping style that you commented on early. Funnily enough, one of their other big early hits was a song about a guy riding into battle with a sword on horseback, The Trooper. Based on the famous poem about The Charge of the Light Brigade.
The first two Maiden albums were little horror stories, set to music. That was Paul's style. When Bruce took over at vocals, the songs became more about literature and history. If Paul had stayed their singer, it would have ruined the band. His lifestyle was unhealthy and destructive, but his voice was fucking gold. To change singers and not loose all their fans, they needed to replace him with someone special and they did, The Air Raid Siren himself.
All of the metal bands that come after them, cite their influence.
TOOL is Pink Floyd for the new millennium.
    Rich the Ancient Metal Beast

Complete respect for listening to different genres, it’s inspired me to do the same. I’ve watched a lot of reaction music videos.
Just some hopefully helpful advice from what I’ve liked about my favorite reactions.
They made much more about the music than themselves
Never ever stop in the middle of a guitar solo! React but don’t pause, you can talk after.
Silence is golden in reaction videos, people are watching for REACTIONS, not commentary. Watch the entire video without interruptions, comment during the video occasionally, but save the rest once it’s done.
The more you make about you, the less people will listen.
    Best of luck!

Note: The album title "The number of the beast" actually has no direct Satanic connotations at all. The title track is based on a nightmare that Iron Maiden's bassist and songwriter Steve Harris woke up from after having seen the horror movie "Omen II".
Not that it really matters to us atheists, who don't believe that any "forces" to meddle with even exist, but there you have it anyway.

My point is that Maidens never were a satanic band because they never were led by any kind of corporative industry telling them what to do, they were always independent, creative and fantastic musicians who loved and love interaction with their fans.... So Irons are what they are thanks to their products blic, their concerts and their talent to tell great stories, what's more, they weren't ignorant, drug addicts.... lead singer was at that time, history teacher... If you dig more, you will know more about the best metal band of all times.

Re the 'satanic' stuff. Now firstly I'm a pretty traditional Catholic, Latin Mass etc so I'm not unaware of the concerns of some. However, I do think that a lot of the 'satanic panic' over bands like Maiden is a case of cultural differences between the notoriously 'tongue in cheek' culture of Britain and the more earnest culture of much of America. (This isn't to say there aren't Metal bands that are actually satanic, but Maiden are definitely not one).
In Britain, the inter dominational religious wars of the 16th and 17th C killed a LOT of people, yes there were other reasons for these wars but puritanism versus ecclesiasticalism were dividing lines.
After the British Republic collapsed under its own sanctimony in 1660 and the monarchy was restored, the country had had more than enough of finger wagging puritans and extreme Catholicism and the result was the emergence of the Church of England of cups of tea and de fanged priests.
Steve, Bruce and the boys were brought up in the soft Anglicanism of the 60s and 70s Britain. Religion wasnt front and centre but rather a constant in the background.
When Maiden made it over to the States, they were quite shocked that many Americans took their 'dark' theatre seriously. Bruce has been interviewed extensively on this and pointed out that Christopher Lee, an actor noted for his demonic roles, wasnt accused of being a mouthpiece for satan because he played these roles.. he was a devout Christian... but he was also an ACTOR.
Bruce's point was that the 'dark kitsch' is exactly that.. it's not meant to be taken seriously, and he's got a point when he quotes the well known trope that America and Britain are two nations seperated by language... we share a language and much history but our societies are very different culturally in many aspects.
As already mentioned, I'm a pretty devout Catholic and I see no issue with the theatre of Maiden and Motorhead and ACDC attacking my faith. If anything, especially with Maiden, much of the lyrics are deeply rooted in Christianity as much as they are in history.
Also.. Nicko McBain is a very devout evangelical Christian. 😊

The devil is not but the hate and fear that humanity is strugglin since the beginning.
But stupid government and stupid parents told us that we were are own enemy, music and art in general was trying to told us the opposite.
Seeing an image of the devil doesn't mean that somebody worship the devil

Ya gotta do the live 1982 version. I'm usually a studio version guy but iron maiden live 82 puts the studio version to shame. I can't and don't say that for many bands or songs.

Just like with Pink Floyd and AC/DC, Iron Maiden typically sound better live than on the albums

Don't dig too deep into it, the song number of the beast is about a dream the bass player had. Nothing to do with satanism, and the song hallowed be thy name is about a condemned man going to be hung

You do realize this is a religious song, has nothing to do with the cover. All iron maiden songs are religious, historical, or political. The covers are just great art work and display Eddie (the demon on the covers)is just a mascot. Its like saying that Steven King is s satanist because he rights horror novels.
