  • Many table tennis players don't know the difference between short, medium and long pimpled rubbers, nor anti spin, nor do they know the effect these rubbers can have on incoming spin. Often this lack of knowledge can lead to frustration as what look like basic beginner mistakes are made. People who use these types of equipment too may complain of inconsistencies in the way the ball bounces of the rubber, or say "these pimples aren't having the effect they should" when in reality, it's a lack of technique or understanding of what the rubbers are capable of which is the cause.
In this video we will show you high speed film of a ball with different types of spin making contact with various parts of a bat and the spin which these rubbers then return.
In the first part of this series we will looked at the physical properties of typical short, medium and long pimpled rubbers and an old sheet of Butterfly Super Anti comparing the surface of each rubber, pimples structure and size, and variations in grip and bounce.
In the third video we drawer together some general observations so that next time you play these types of rubbers, or play with them, you'll have a better idea of what to expect and hopefully a greater understanding of spin which you can go on to explore in more detail yourselves.

Could you please do the same for an 'ordinary' back side rubber to show the difference?

It's interesting how medium pimples seem to produce the faster balls. How could we explain this? I would've expected a linear relationship in speed as compared to length of pimples, with short pimples producing the fastest balls among the 3.

I am going to do the same kind of tests as you have done. I mounted my laser on the head of my Newgy. The laser spot will be refelected to a place on the wall that I will mark. The error will be less because I am measuring at a greater distance. I don't know if this will make that much difference. I like you videos and appreciate the effort you have put into them.

To make sure the paddles are oriented the same way use a laser pointer to point to a mirror that is on the surface of the paddle. The reflected dot should be in the same place for all tests. Then you know the paddle angles are the same between the tests. A laser pointer doesn't cost much and the mirrors are cheap too.

Esta serie de 3 es fantastica solo me gustaria que en castellano hicieran algo similar, no en portugues porque igual se entiede muy poco hay que deducir la explicacion o relato.
