Important PSA: "Hoodwink” reflects an obsolete meaning of “wink.” Today, “to wink” means to close one eye briefly, but during the 1500s it meant to shut both eyes firmly. So a highwayman who placed a hood over a victim's eyes to effectively close them, was said to “hoodwink” his prey, and soon “hoodwink” came to mean “to dupe.”

Thank you so much for speaking on this king. Not many are brave enough to speak on an extremely important film such as this. I can’t find it anywhere on streaming and I need the masses to know.
There is a reason why you can't find anywhere. When it got made on DVD no one liked it but now its getting appreciated. It's not widely known still but it's getting recognized. 1:56 They really tried! In the commentary they mention trying to nail Rankin Bass by making textures bigger, and the fact that it started in an apartment makes the whole thing so laudable.
That singing goat still lives in my head rent free all these years later and every few months that “Did I? 🎶Did I?🎶” will just start playing in the back of my mind
I am so excited you covered this I saw this in theaters with my grandma and the comedy is shrek level it is so seriously underrated. The schnitzel man scene. Iconic.
The fact that the soundtrack is not available on Spotify is a heinous crime to me, personally, bc of the song "Critters have feelings" (another song written specifically for this movie, which references some of the weird little cut scenes) being my favorite song that gets stuck in my head on a weekly basis since the first time I watched this movie as a kid.
Part of me kind of loves the fact that Boingo's animation is so disturbing, it's nice to have the bad guy just look like a bad guy. Plus he's voiced by Andy Dick, so i guess he's a villain through and through.
I adore this movie I remember me and my brother refusing to throw away the DVD, I think it's one of the only DVDs we still own because of how much we loved this movie. Thank you so much for covering this and keeping it's fever dream alive
Love your point about how it sucks when voice actors lose out on a job in favor of a bigger name. Such a pet peeve of mine, you see it in gaming more and more too.
This movie was, to my knowledge, the FIRST one to have the twist where the cute little creature turns out to be evil! I'm not 100% sure, but I remember being blown away by the twist at the time only to see it 10000 more times in other movies over the following years 😅
I watched this as a kid and remembered it looking way less cursed 😂 Like in my head it was always a normal looking movie with an odd artstyle but as an adult seeing clips of it I’m like “Oh… no”
This video dropkicked me into remembering that time I made this movie my whole personality for like three months and then COMPLETELY forgot about it for fifteen years, thank you for your service Mike ❤
i’m actually shaking… this is one of my favorite movies of all time… me and my brother reference it constantly … no one ever knows what i’m talking about when i bring it up… this is what’s it’s like to truly feel seen
I've always loved and defended Hoodwinked. Funnily enough, I think I quote the woodpecker the most. The way the voice actor says "you're next" and of course "I'm just a woodpecker". And since I was a depressed redheaded teenager when this came out, Red is Blue was like my anthem for a while.
I first saw this movie in French class dubbed in FRENCH. I thought it was a fever dream until I saw it in English five years later and it blew my mind. If you think it’s wild now, imagine it in French.
the way you just nail these choices every time is honestly scary at this point . a taste level the likes of which i have yet to see matched online . a simple congratulations is in order , yet another classic
I swear this movie gets talked about every year, and yes I watched this movie growing up where my dad's favorite character was Twitchy the Squirrel. This movie scratches my brain with the schnitzel song, the "Did I?" from the singing goat, and "Use the hood red!". I also watched the sequel, and all I remember was that the twist villains came out of nowhere in the last few minutes of the movie.

I’m officially awaiting a video on the cat in the hat movie because it is the definition of chaotic but it’s everything Mike would love i think- like the cupcake scene omg
1:56 They really tried! In the commentary they mention trying to nail Rankin Bass by making textures bigger, and the fact that it started in an apartment makes the whole thing so laudable.
I'd thought I'd remembered Hoodwinked and yet WOW, the crunchy graphics were a shock. Younger me did not see no problem!
the fact this is the only animated movie my whole family would sit down and watch together... iconic, hoodwinked bringing families together
That singing goat still lives in my head rent free all these years later and every few months that “Did I? 🎶Did I?🎶” will just start playing in the back of my mind
Me too. I'm always going "be prepaaarrred, be prepaarred"
THE WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING i can't
I am so excited you covered this I saw this in theaters with my grandma and the comedy is shrek level it is so seriously underrated. The schnitzel man scene. Iconic.
Thank you for representing all of the hoodwinked fans, we have been waiting for a voice to speak up for a long time
This movie is an absolute gem. The "Be Prepared" song and "caffeine yeah baby!" live in my head rent free to this day lol.
Whenever I sit in a rocking chair, I sing the "do do do do do do do do do do do do" from the Be Prepared song 😂
I WAS PREPAAAAAAARED
The fact that the soundtrack is not available on Spotify is a heinous crime to me, personally, bc of the song "Critters have feelings" (another song written specifically for this movie, which references some of the weird little cut scenes) being my favorite song that gets stuck in my head on a weekly basis since the first time I watched this movie as a kid.
I absolutely love this song. My little sister and I constantly sing it together
19:38 okay but you weren’t going to mention that red turns blue is by Ben Folds, who did the soundtrack for over the hedge? Okay….
AHHHHH THATS WHY IT SOUNDS SO GOOOD!!!!!!?
Wait Ben folds isn’t just an obscure internet music guy???
Love your point about how it sucks when voice actors lose out on a job in favor of a bigger name. Such a pet peeve of mine, you see it in gaming more and more too.
No this is possibly my FAVORITE animated movie. It is ICONIC I can't believe you're covering it!!
mike will truly come up with any repeating bit just to show his side profile, and good for him
This movie was, to my knowledge, the FIRST one to have the twist where the cute little creature turns out to be evil! I'm not 100% sure, but I remember being blown away by the twist at the time only to see it 10000 more times in other movies over the following years 😅
The detective frog being like a disco dancer is one of my fav bits of all time tbh
I watched this as a kid and remembered it looking way less cursed 😂
Like in my head it was always a normal looking movie with an odd artstyle but as an adult seeing clips of it I’m like “Oh… no”
Right?!😅
I was just thinking about this film the other day and how no one talks about how iconic it is. Father Microphone always brings what I need.
This video dropkicked me into remembering that time I made this movie my whole personality for like three months and then COMPLETELY forgot about it for fifteen years, thank you for your service Mike ❤
The animation trying to emulate stop motion actually makes A LOT of sense design wise
bro you HAVE to cover the sequel, I am BEGGINGGGG
YESS the sequel is dare I say even more unhinged
Also doesn’t have Anne Hathaway because she was a jerk.
I didn’t know there was a sequel!!!😮
Opened TH-cam 32 seconds after this dropped. I am blessed today
15:33 I love this reference too! I somehow quote that line from Meet the Robinsons often and too often get nothing but blank stares in return
this is actually insane you keep reviewing movies i'm unironically obsessed with like are you on my letterboxd
I ADORED this movie as a kid but nobody ever talked about it. thank you for reminding me why I loved it
i’m actually shaking… this is one of my favorite movies of all time… me and my brother reference it constantly … no one ever knows what i’m talking about when i bring it up… this is what’s it’s like to truly feel seen
What is this channel I just discovered at 11pm. I am instantly obsessed.
The way I watched this movie on repeat as a child but I could not have told you ANY of these plot points 😭
I still say the “Oh look out for Keith!” line in my head every time I see that name pffft
The quickness and haste with which I got here
the way you just nail these choices every time is honestly scary at this point . a taste level the likes of which i have yet to see matched online . a simple congratulations is in order , yet another classic
I swear this movie gets talked about every year, and yes I watched this movie growing up where my dad's favorite character was Twitchy the Squirrel. This movie scratches my brain with the schnitzel song, the "Did I?" from the singing goat, and "Use the hood red!". I also watched the sequel, and all I remember was that the twist villains came out of nowhere in the last few minutes of the movie.
thank you for giving this absolutely iconic movie ots flowers, Mike. I remember seeing it randomly on TV at like 11 years old & it becoming a comfort movie I rewatch time to time. Story/VAs/campy vibe still EATS!! 😍😁
0:16 I live for moments like this. I LOVE YOUR PERSONALITY it’s literally my favorite thing 😫
Yesssss 🙏🙏🙏😭
the goat song is non ironically one of my favourite songs and when i tell people they never believe at first but when the information do sink in it's always funny to try and guess what their reaction will be
A. Classic.
14:51 has me SCREAMING
"ten year olds now are writing slurs into dress to impress that are getting turned into hashes" KILLED ME I CAN'T
The script is actually criminal with how good it is, like it should not be THIS good and it is. Also I don't mind the dodgy animation, it just adds to the film's charm.
