LeVar Burton talks about "Roots" remake and how 40 years later racism hasn't changed

eVar Burton was a young man when he played Kunta Kinte on the miniseries "Roots."
The show depicted an African boy kidnapped from his country and sold into slavery.
"Roots" set ratings records, but the actor who became famous from it is not satisfied.

Back in 2006 I was working at Joe's Crab Shack and I was also in college so I was working there to provide for myself while going to school. One night I was outside sweeping the deck and a car full of white boys rode by and stuck they're head out the window and said "Nigger". They shouted it out loud to me. It did something to me inside. I started coming to work late and calling out. I ended up quitting because of that and it had nothing to do with my job they were nice to me but those white boys calling me that it broke me inside. I wish I wouldn't of let it get to me.

Burton acts as though he was actually alive in 1850. I loved him in everything he did, but he's reprehensibly racist.

Levar is a nice man, very likable but i disagree with the remake of this movie, its an all star cast that could have been used to make something better, more creative, and original. Remaking roots is a waste of time, and serves no purpose, use your talents wisely, and make something better.
