What a fantastic layout. Loved the ingenious 'access points' idea. I was wondering about access in case of 'the inevitable troublesome trucks' !! Thanks for sharing. Al.
WHICH BRAKE WITH WHICH LOCO - OR EVEN UNFITTED ? It could get complicated ! Trying to figure out which wagons or carriages were fitted with which brake system, Vacuum or Air brakes. And then trying to figure out which locos have the correct brake system to match. Indeed you could end up doing as much shunting as BR had too, during the Steam to Diesel changeover period. Indeed it gets even more complex when you have "Unfitted" wagons (NO brakes except a handbrake). And these "nasties" survived until 1990. Indeed I had to take the last "unfitted" wagons from Taunton to Bristol in 1989. After which time "Part Fitted" freight trains South West of Bristol were banned. NOTE: BR helpfully painted its own wagons in this era, in two different colours to identify the problem. Wagons painted "Red Oxide/Brown", were fitted with vacuum brakes. Whereas the pale grey wagons were "Unfitted" so had no train brakes, only a hand brake for "parking". Which meant that any "Brown" wagons had to be marshalled immediately behind the loco, and then any pale grey wagons had to be marshalled behind the Brown ones. This ensured that the loco would have more than just its own brakes to control the train !!!
10:20 nice shot with the camera hanging off the side, bouncing on the bridge beam rivets, but cuts before the inevitable impact at 10:35 The pics at the end of the camera trucks could be 'enhanced' with some clips of the 'fun' involved.
