I was a C-130 Crew Chief stationed at Elemendorf AFB, Alaska, for several years. We didn't 'precondition' the engines as you describe (repeatedly). But we did have to keep other parts of the aircraft warm, and 'de-ice' the wings before flight.
C130s are where I started my training. They're the most versatile, bad ass airframe I ever had the privilege of working on. I miss the flightline. And I miss my brothers and sisters.
i've wrenched on those myself. we've done some weird things with those planes: rescue versions, hurricane chasers, trash haulers, combat support - i really could go on. i wasn't propulsion (avionics for me), but i seem to remember we even had a version that could be started with shotgun cartridges so you don't need and apu to fire it up.
Dates are interesting for how long the MC130 has been in service. Pretty sure that MC130's (regardless of A-J) have been in service sines the 80's at a minimum. Certainly with the 1st SOW at Hurlburt at the very least.
The C-130 entered service with the U.S. in 1956, followed by Australia and many other nations. During its years of service, the Hercules has participated in numerous military, civilian and humanitarian aid operations....
Inaugural flight in 2011? Yeah that's incorrect. Perhaps you mean the MC-130 "J" but the MC-130 has been flying since the 70's. How do I know....I've flown on many of them as CREW.
You don't charge an APU like a battery and it doesn't require a V8 engine to charge it, it just proves the AI is clueless. The APU is a jet engine and is usually carried on board the aircraft to do things like run auxiliary loads like the electrics when there is a problem with the main engines or it provides bleed air to enable engine starts in midair.
I guess you missed that external APU in the video powered by a gas engine that was powering the airplane systems and charging the batteries while preheating the engines.
Ahh yes, the Lockheed Cyrano. Bulbous nose, irresistible girth, flying about the world in the service of the Sun King who gives not two fucks about him. Poor Roxane ..
As an ex C130- Flt eng we simply took the aircraft battery out of the aircraft and (hopefully) to the hotel room to keep it warm.......never had a problem...
Good video. Your identity of the different C-130 are hit and miss. I saw a standard C-130, one MC-130 and a couple of EC-130's. The nose is the big difference for the MC-130 and the added antenna's at the rear designates and EC-130. I know this after spending time at DM where the EC-130's were stationed back in the 80's.
It’s odd that you are showing footage of both J and H models… the difference between a J and H as far as crew goes it that the H has 2 pilots, a navigator, flight engineer and two loads. Whereas the j had what you described.
Not really. And besides..it takes the cake in longevity, strength, reliability, and flexibility..and almost more importantly...appearance...the 390 is fugly imo.
Just remember the C-390 is Brazilian made, not US made or European made nor does it have the longevity or the C-130, let's see if the C-390 is still around in 50 years time?

Elmendorf was fun, crew chief 82-85.
the well loved 130 in all variants - effective, reliable and tough, tough, tough
The real C130’s have flight engineers and navigators, the J’s still have teething problems..
They found a new one now. A 400

damn, such a pretty plane, inside and outside

👍😎👍 from indonesia 🇮🇩
What a cool aircraft jumped from it,transported and resupplied by it just awesome!!
Nice video, thenk you!
Excellent, interesting and very educational. Thank You

Yeah, not sure where they got that “since 2011” information. They were at Clark AB when I was there in 1982!

Yeah, I was like wait, what?
You’re literally repeating the same points over and over again. Try to be informative for more subscribers.
1:10 That’s an AC-130 not MC130
Pinocchio Hercules.. 😳
Haha yes because of its long nose😅
That was the first thing that came to my mind to.
Opus
AND I,ve operated a C130 from the south polar ice cap..........just keep everything warm team........

Very interesting. Who knew that?
The APU is charged by the generator. 5:37 doesn't make sense lol.
U got to work on 0023 before it was retired, miss the H models
What about doing a feature on the LC-130 with VXE -6 and the New York Air Guard 109 Airlift Wing LC-13O H

Are they made from new or old aircraft

I flew on an MC-130 E in 1990 in the desert..
Its MC-130
𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐀 !
Pre-conditioning...everyone must use that in a sentence today
Um avião muito belo .

So the MC-130 crew compliment is Pilot, Co Pilot, CSO, and two Loadmasters? Since when?
They are referring to the MC-130J but showing every MC ever made
Canada operates around 20 C130J aircraft, often in the arctic. Some use skis and jet packs (for ski take-off) very cool!
and I thought that C130 was on its way gone, until someone started shooting machine guns out its side, lol
155000 tons❓
C-130P (Proboscis)
Do you need the operational career?
North of that plane looks like a duck a funny looking😅😅😅😅
And capable of dropping the most powerful conventional bomb the US has!
The Japanese I400 submarines had pre flight oil warming for its float planes, in the 1940's 😂😂
Good job the viagra works on that plane 😂
👍👍
This is what they not sell to anybody
It is being out performed by the Brazilian made C-390 both in terms of price, but also capabilities.

Looks like a French Plane, look at that nose.😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂

Why dog-nose like cone..?
Big radar for terrain following/avoidance capability.
Videos made by non military people!
Exactly- say you know nothing about the MC-130 without saying you know nothing about the MC-130
more junk we don't need.........
This exact plane is on my tracking radar every time it flys I get alert I seen in Middle East operation I have all recording of tracking
this footage just gets shared round and revoiced.
