Thank you for sharing different perspectives on the topic of AI. I found this to be both entertaining and educational!

This was another interesting topic; I enjoyed hearing your different perspectives on it. You all do HBCU's, and Howard University in particular, proud as evidently intelligent alumni. Jordan made particularly good points related to [paraphrasing]:
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not going away, so we just need to regulate it so it is not used in destructive, exploitative, misleading, discriminatory, or dangerous ways by individuals, companies, and nations.
    • Throughout history, with the emergence of new technology (e.g., trains, early photography, radio, television, computers, and so on), people have always feared the worse initially in terms of loss of jobs, change in the way we do things, "the end is near", etc. Sure, some of the new technologies caused some structural employment at first, but this also forced people to learn new skills. Change is inevitable, whether we like it or not.

Yes, Jordan is the tech savvy one of our group and did his homework, that’s why we keep her around haha. This conversation was very informative for us and glad to hear that it’s resonating with others. Thank you so much for watching 🫶🏾

0:44 why do seemingly logical people say things like this? .. "everybody is unemployed". .. come on nothing will cause everyone to be unemployed... Technology replace jobs yes but it also creates other jobs.. it aucks for the people being displaced but there are more jobs put there and opportunities for the same people who go displaced an willing to pivot.

You’re right, it’s not career ending for everyone, there will be more jobs…however some folks who get displaced won’t necessarily be in position to start over if needed and find something else so easily. It will be competitive and it’s a harsh reality unfortunately.

@@SurfaceLevelPodcast This is a function of reality..it's always been this way. The actual issue is the expectations people have and that's a function of the messaging we get growing up. Half the blame goes to the messaging we get but the other half goes to us for acting like we don't see what is ACTUALLY happening. We all get a dose of reality when we become adults..some of us adapt ..others act like it's not there until we get blindsided.
I say all this to say .. we always have to be prepared to lose our jobs ..or better yet pivot before the storm comes

that's completely unrealistic, especially for people well into their careers who are older; people usually dedicate years of their time and money to find a good job or get competent in their field. I don't know how good AI will get, but it's already displaced people, sadly

Yea, this is a good point. It’s unfortunate 🫣
