    Thank you very much. So many other people seem to make it way more then it should. Also, they always forget to show the full wiring OR just how to replace parts on things with harness set ups already installed. Now seeing a completely stripped version this all makes alot more sense.

    Hey Chris, that helped me a lot. I got stuck on the flashers on this Thunderbird and found out that the brand new flasher was fried inside. How that happened is a mystery but I never really knew how they worked anyway. Now I do. Thanks for taking the time to make that for us.

    Thanks Chris great video. Have all the components to build that set-up and am going into the shop to do just that. Great explanation. Am a retired a/c mechanic and thinking of restoring an older 60's or early 70's vehicle before ever buying a new vehicle again. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Still have my Chiltons manual for my brand new 68 mustang that I wish I still had but still have all my original test equipment. Great channel brings back old hands on mechanics. 👍

    Best video I have seen on this! I have been trying to rewire an old 1993 Belarus 250AS tractor and this one thing on the wiring harness (which is relatively simple compared to modern tractors) has given me fits! Great explanation! Now I know the power has to go through the relay BEFORE it goes to the switch! Thanks much!

    Thanks again. This is helpful as well for the project putting hazards and turn signals on my carriage. I had thought I'd use a toggle switch to turn the system on, but the old style foot dimmer switch to activate the left or right turn signal. The reason being that my hands can be pretty busy handling the horses when I need to activate the turn signals, but my feet are always available. It appears there are a couple ways I can accomplish this project and you sir have given me a leg up! Thanks again.

    Best video about this subject ever.
    Resistor 3:16 are *not* "semi conductors", they are "poor conductors". In fact, they are metal (there are carbon resistors too), and metal are conductors. Semi-conductors lower its resistance at high temperatures. Metals rises its resistance as temperature rises. Metal and semi-conductors behaves oposite over temperature change.

    Chris, I am so grateful you took the time to do this video, I have gone nuts trying to figure out an issue I have with a 1986 Honda Civic. I had to re-wire my lights, parking light etc, due to the switch not been available. Everything works fine except the turn signal when I turn right, I get a blink on the right but the left light comes on and stays on without blinking, the same thing happens if I try to turn to the left, this one blinks and the right is on without blinking. Your video and perfect explanation has saved me from getting more gray hairs. I am truly very thankful and appreciate you taking the time to help people, that otherwise, doing such simple job would be a nightmare. I just have a question, I'm using a switch that reads L and R, is that the same as the one you are using?

    Is it fair to say that any vehicle that has a flasher that flashes in double time (faster) when a bulb is burnt out has to be an electronic flasher?

    • @chriscraft77022
      @chriscraft77022  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it can blink fast when a bulb is bad or missing... or when the flasher is going bad... both situations can make it flash fast... bad grounds on the signal light harness can also do it

    I have a single pope two way switch for blinkers and on a temporary toggle switch that had a hot from the battery with a fuse qnd is temporary till I fix all the wires in a 78 dodge rv. Kt to emotion it didn't have the manufacturer stick thing and I couldn't find one. I connected the hazard switch wires coming put th4 column as you did in the video going directly to the screws on the fist switch. My problem is the hazarss won't activate unless one of the signals is on. My other issues is I'm guessing it's because I only have one of the flashers connected. I was sure previously i had worked it and was working perfectly fine. The rv took a huge dump on me a few months ago. Had someone do mechanical work on it and I'm wondering if he was oddly doing other random work on it. This person used to work at my mechanic shop and their was several issues including another old employee as today both no longer work their. Previously i had turn signal light issues and was fixed, git into an accident and I'm guessing during yhr time it sat someone cut the wires and blamed me for it when i was driving it and all the wires were oddly cut. I'm second guessing the recent person may have been trying to something way back than and landed it on the other person who was supposed to work on it the first time... I'm juts trying to figure what o could be doing wrong or if I need the second flasher replaced. I'm also contemplating if I had replaced one f th4 flashers previously qnd don't remember it as it was connected but neither of the lights were working. My only other guess would be to add a second hot wire at the flasher.

    Does the relay have to be before the switch?

  • @sterlingjcalvin
    @sterlingjcalvin ปีที่แล้ว

    Having an issue with a 68 impala. When I replace the flasher relay the blinkers work for a little while and then stop blinking. After a few minutes the light will stay solid and not blink anymore. I’ve replaced multiple relays. Do I need a electro magnetic switch or could the culprit be the switch going bad?

  • @datnotme9921

    Q: I recently bought a '73 Honda CT90. They were made with the "possible" option that year for blinker indicators. Mine has switch on handlebars and a light in speedometer indicating signals in use. But no indicators or flasher relay. I bought '74 handlebars and taillight assy with indicators attached to them and a 2 prong 6v flasher relay switch. The blue connections that go on to flasher relay, do they get crimped lightly or just plug in? And the other end of wire needs to be male type, same as wire thickness, tubular shape, about idk say 1/2" long. Idk what those are called to make a search to buy. I'm thinking I'm going to have to make those wires. Are wires premade like above described for relay switch?

    • @SDsailor7
      @SDsailor7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tubular things that go on the end of the wire are called bullet eectrical connectors amazon has them i just bought some for an Indian moped i am restoring hope this helps if that is what you are talking about.
      Cheers

  • @ORipples
    @ORipples 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome explanation! It helps a lot. Still confused about my situation though. My left blinker works perfectly normal. The right blinker works until the brake is applied. When I apply the brakes the right blinker goes solid and stays on without blinking and the left brake light shuts off when that happens. When I let off of the brakes they go back to normal. I have one flasher plugged into the blinker section but there is not a flasher plugged into the hazard section. Do I need two plugged in? Also, mine is yellow. Should it be the metal one you have on video?
    Thanks in advance

    • @chriscraft77022
      @chriscraft77022  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is the interaction of the two metals amplified by the aluminum cover... it isn’t very loud when you take the cover off

  • @AlexanderCrump
    @AlexanderCrump 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice graphical explanation, Chris. Fixed load and variable load flashers operate on the same principle but are essentially reversed - the fixed load flasher (for the turn signals) is ON position in the resting phase. The variable load flashers (for hazard warning lights) are in the OFF position in the resting phase.
    Your 1970 Chevelle has two lamps on each side, so you need a 224 (light blue shell) for the turn signals and a 552 for the hazard circuit. That will keep your car as close to original as possible. Use 1157 bulbs in the front and rear housings.

    Do you not need a diode for each wire to each indicator?

    Turn signals make me lfeel like a dumbass!! Ive got my car wired up and now trying to figure out how to get power to flasher and thru break switch also. Its been so long since I've done this and trying to figure it out again is killing me. Great vid tho.

    Your diagram shows "X" as the blade at 12 o'clock and "L" at 9 o'clock. The assembled circuit indicates otherwise, ie. "X" is actually at 9 o'clock. Also, it would have been useful to help distinguish which lead wire is the source (to "X") and which connects to "L". Otherwise, I got a lot from your video. Thanks
