    Matt, I'm watching this 3 years after filming. I hope you got your log loader and switches. It would be cool to see your layout today. I agree with you about the EP-5, truly magnificent. I live just north of New Haven, and remember going down to New York City as a kid, on the New Haven powered by the EP-5.

    I agree Matt is really something. He did not seem to know that new stuff is being made. He said he had a hard time finding track. I know money is a problem with most young folks but track is every where on American flyer ebay. It is hard for any person under 65 to imagine finding things in a store like I did when I was his age. Seeing new American flyer in display cases in train stores and seeing factory layouts operating in mint condition are unknown to beginners of any age. Learning numbers, types of engines and cars takes years. I learn new things about A. C. Gilbert all the time. I met Gilbert employees that shared things with me in the 1990s that will never be known nowadays but I was really lucky to meet such people before they all passed on.

      Michael...would you be open to a zoom.call with me...something like Matt and I did...but you could tell stories about the gilbert employees you met...would be a way to preserve some of that history???

      @@AustinsAmericanFlyertrains Hi Austin, I dont even know what zoom calls are. I have no commputer and know nothing about them. My cell phone has the net but I do nothing else with it but buy on ebay but even that I am trying to do less. I have just about everything I want now except maybe a uncataloged traditional Gilbert era type piece that I missed or maybe a new Gilbert boxcar that TTOS, TCA or NASG may come out with. I only remember a thing or two off hand about what a Gilbert employee told me mainly some cars were one of a kind and the 24222 Dominos sugar had KC on a few of them and there were KC on most of the 1961 and 62 Pikemaster cars as old boxes of trucks were found hidden someplace and used on the new cars but not many.

      @@michaelgmoore5708 a zoom call is a free video service. This is what matt and I used. It takes a smart phone with camera...I send a link and away we go. Congratulations on having such a complete collection. The few collections I have physical seen leave me both impressed and overwhelmed. There are do many variations...wow.

    Fascinating listen to a younger AF train enthusiast, I have thought of seeing if the local boy scouts would be interested in building a layout

      That's a great idea! I've been pleasantly surprised how many young people are posting train related things on Instagram.

    Please thank Matt for his guest appearance. Is there a prototype diesel that Gilbert did not produce that Matt would like to scratch build on an AF diesel platform?

    • @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains
      @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent question. I know his favorite railroad is the newhaven. I will ask him...or invite him to read the comments and respond.

      @@AustinsAmericanFlyertrains I like ALCO diesels and the New Haven had a lot of their road diesels. New Haven also had many Fairbanks-Morse road switchers.

      Caden... I have seen just a few flyer collections...there are 100,000's of origional flyer stuff still in existence. I think you not need worry that flyer will disappear.

      American flyer trains bring more money on eBay than Lionel big time the higher end sets. Someone out there is paying big bucks for sets

      Hello trust me I thought the same thing but as the hobby gets more popular the more American flyers start to pop up for sale
