I had replaced my housings with the Alpharex Pro Series Projector headlights when I bought my F-150. They come with H7 Halogen bulbs, so you HAVE to remove the headlight housing to replace both the high and low beam bulbs. I didn't know that when I switched to the Alpharex, but since I installed the Alpharex my self, I went ahead and replaced the bulbs myself. This video is the greatest to walk me through the process!!!
I'm sure you've done this by now but I just did mine and it took 20 minutes for both lights. This way is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary. You can remove some screws in the wheel well that hold the liner in, fold the liner back until you have enough room, reach up, remove the dust cover and change the bulb. It's so easy, I didn't even get half way through my beer
yeah I have done it to mine before. I did it this way at first and gave up but figured out you can do it from wheel well. Pretty simple just wake sure u have truck off for a while bf you do it. Lots of hot stuff up there
I agree with the other comments; however, I will say I appreciate this video because I could not have done this myself without it. Pain in the butt, but I was not paying Lord knows how much at a shop for them to do it.
You don’t have to disassemble the whole front end. F150 LED’s has a TH-cam video on a shortcut. I tried it and although not fun it is easier than taking apart your truck. You remove 4 screws that hold the inner liner in place and fold it behind your wheel. That exposes the headlight socket. If you aren’t installing led’s it’s easier but if you are you have to tuck the wiring and anti flicker module into the headlight housing. I did figure out that on the headlight socket there is a chrome retainer ring held in place by 3 Torx Screws and it was way easier to twist the new LED bulb in if you loosened those Torx screws put the LED in place and then tighten them! The drivers side is easier than the passengers side for the low beam as there is a wire harness that makes it a tight squeeze. The high beam is very easy to get to! I’m 69! and if I can do it most guys should be able to do it.
@orestwitiw213 I guess I'll have to check out that video. Hopefully won't have to touch them again for a while since I recently replaced both lights lol
How many of yall think this is the process to replace the bulbs? Those are accessible through the fender wells. An i hate to break it to you but, any reasonably modern car is going to require a bit of dissasembly of the front end usually including the entire front bumper on cars to get the housings off.
This is the procedure to replace the bulbs. You can’t just reach around behind them to get them out like you could on the 98 Taurus or the 2006 Jeep Liberty or the Mercedes Sprinter.
@@DeltaFoxtrotWhiskey3 except that you can through the wheel well and fender cover. i did exactly that on my 2018. to replace the actual housing i get the massive dissasembly. but for just the bulbs its not as intense.
I’ve been doing my own wrenching for almost 50 years and believe me I’ve seen DUMB. With this mess I’d say Ford really jumped the shark. There is absolutely no excuse for creating a headache like this for a regular maintenance item. When you consider how often Halogen headlights burn out it’s even worse. Truly FOUND ON THE ROAD DEAD👎🏻
This is to replace the entire headlight assembly not the light bulbs. I replaced my light bulbs on my 18 F150 in about 15 minutes. That was both sides.
GREAT VIDEO. Trying to replace the bulbs by crawling through the wheel wells (as simplified in other videos) is close to impossible. This process is well worth the time to get it done. However, the design by Ford to necessitate all this is seriously flawed. Thanks for the video!
Many comments about how ridiculous this is to change out bulbs. That’s correct, it is ridiculous. HOWEVER this is how the entire headlight assembly is removed, not the only to change the bulbs. The bulbs can be replaced easily by removing a few screws from the wheel well liners.
This is to change the headlight not the bulb. Owners manual even says to go thru the wheel well. I replaced my fog light (with led) and low beams (led bulbs) in 15 minutes each side.
I just tried to replace mine with LED but didn't do it this way. I removed four screws in the wheel well and a clip, removed the dust cover. I then tried to turn the bulb counterclockwise but couldn't budge it. I was afraid of breaking it so I just stopped and reattached everything. I'll definitely look for someone to put these on.
So I just did this like 5 minutes ago. Followed everything he did and it was really simple. Was about 1.5 hours to do both and most of that was researching the video to see the next step lol. My only part of advice is that, if you are doing the fog lights too. To just change the bulb out when the headlight is out, save you from laying on the ground to just do it when the light it out! Went smoothly to replace all 6 bulbs!
How can I fix a headlight on my 2021 Ford F150 and the one on the right side turns off and it's not a fuse or anything like that and it also has power and I fix it and it turns off again. Could you help me?
It’s one of those if you did it every day, it would be easy to do. But if you watch the video a few times and actually try it, it really isn’t that hard to do. It should take no longer than an hour or two to swap out the fixtures.
Anything worth doing, is worth doing right! That's why I'm definitely paying someone to do this when I replace mine after watching this. Is it possible to make it any more frustrating to replace a stinking bulb .
Glad I followed this guy. Took a part the whole front end, brike pieces of truck plastic, all to realize you just have to undo 3 bolts in the undercarriage to get to bulb. What a waist of time and my truck. 👎👎
Wanted to replace the HL on my work truck, but Im not goimg through this entire ridiculous process to replace one lamp. This video also helps me make the decision to not buy an F150 as my personal truck. I think I'll go with a chevy
Just finished replacing my driver's side bulb. I removed 2 screws and bent the fender cover back and reached up inside to remove the bulb. Took about 10 minutes.
During the first step (fender flare removal) your video shows the retaining clips stuck to the trim piece. Like you, my retaining clips were also stuck. What you failed to show was the step removing those clips and attaching them back to the flare. If your clips stick to the trim piece, you cannot properly attach the flare. Make sure to remove the clips from the trim and reattach to the fender. Hopefully this comment saves some headache.
I came here cause i bought a used 2019 and the passenger side bight is aimed at the ground and is apparently stuck. I was going to try to remove the assembly an "un-stuck" it. In my old 06 Silverado, you popped the hood and pulled 1 pin and the whole yhing just rolled out. It was like a 6 second operation. This is absurd.
I have a 2018 F150. You dont have to do any of this. Just loosen the wheel well cover remove the dust cover on the light housing and replace the bulb...
You don’t need to disassemble the entire front end. You can remove 4 screws from the inner fender and remove them from behind. It’s a pain, but it’s not this!
Good thing I got vacation time holy hell, these engineers literally made this so horrible, my 2012 was pop the hood take out 3-5 screws and boom that's it
You don't have to take your truck all apart... just remove your tire... a couple screws and a plastic screw clip and pull the plastic fender out of the way, revealing the lights... just reach up in and replace the damn light.
@@cheeznhard Lol... I must of missed that... I just watched my friend change his headlight... after I was trying to show him this video... I guess, the 1st time he changed a headlight on this truck, it took him like 3 hours, the 1st time.
You're showing the ford from 2018 but my husband's truck is a 2015 model and there are no bulbs in it. There's a whole system that costs obout $300. There is no bulb there. The entire Headlamp FL3Z-13C626-C lamp costs $270 plus tax and shipping. What they are doing to customers is terrible. His front light just burned out and he took it apart and couldn't find any bulbs. And no one is talking about it. And nobody didn't make any video about it . He would have to go to the service center and pay a few hundred for it. In the past, you went to the store and bought a bulb for 2 dollars and changed it in just a few minutes. It's a nightmare now.
Boys, do NOT waste your time with this bullshit 😂. I just did both headlights in 20 mins. Look in your wheel well and you'll see about 3-4 small screws holding the liner in. Remove those and you can fold the liner back and use the tire to hold it. You can easily reach up, remove the dust cover and change the bulb. This way in the video is absolutely ridiculous
never has a TH-cam video changed my mind about somthing I was going to try to do myself.
Following his direction, it was easy. I'm 77
Great detailed video, but ABSOLUTELY NUTS to have to go through all these steps to replace a headlight!!!
I can't believe there is this much effort involved in simply trying to change out a light bulb. Seriously!
If you want to simply change the bulb you can access it from behind the wheel liner
I didn't know that you had to take the whole truck apart to replace the headlights. Forget that! I'll just buy a new truck.
🤣🤣🤣
You don't 😂 this is ridiculous. This is about 10 steps too many
I just finished mine, did both headlights in 20 mins
You've got to be fucking kidding
@@Pancho_86you gonna drop a video or nah?
That's the most F upped thing I've ever seen for what should be a minor maintenance procedure.
You must not have worked on many Subaru or Audis...
How is changing the entire headlamp assembly a "maintenance" item?
Yea all the new trucks are that way. Got to take damn near the whole front end just to replace a assembly
I heard Ray was the same
